METHODS: 84 elderly subjects, non-practitioners (NP, n=31) and practitioners of CET (n=53), were supplemented with Gln [0.3g/kg of weight plus 10g of maltodextrin, groups: NP-Gln (n=14), and CET-Gln (n=26)], or placebo [10g of maltodextrin, groups: NP-PL (n=17), and CET-PL (n=27)]. Anthropometric and physical data were assessed. Blood sampling was collected pre and post-30 days of supplementation. RESULTS: NP subgroups showed higher BMI and serum IL-6 levels than CET subgroups before and post-supplementation. Higher serum levels of IL-10 with lower IL-6 and IL-6/IL-10 ratio were observed post-supplementation in the CET-Gln subgroup than pre-supplementation. When the volunteers were separated according to their BMI, higher IL-6 levels were found in all obese (OB) subgroups than in the adequate weight (AW) subgroups before supplementation. This difference was not maintained between OB CET-Gln and AW CET-Gln subgroups post-supplementation. Higher levels of IL-10 with lower IL-6 and IL-6/IL-10 ratio were found in the OB CET-Gln subgroup post-supplementation than pre-supplementation. No differences were found in the glycemic and lipid profile. CONCLUSION: Oral Gln supplementation when associated with the regular practice of CET can modulate the systemic inflammatory status, especially in obese elderly subjects.","PeriodicalId":285800,"journal":{"name":"Brazilian Journal of Global Health","volume":"45 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-02-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114297801","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

METHODS: Cross-sectional observational study performed at the UNISA Orthopedics and Rheumatology clinic, approved by the ethics committee followed by CAAE 07824918.0.0000.0081. The sample consisted of individuals who underwent rotator cuff repair for at least two years and who have already undergone postoperative rehabilitation. For the evaluation, a specific self-report questionnaire was applied to assess rotator cuff dysfunctions, the WORC, and the FIT-HaNSA test, a functional test that consists of performing 3 tasks that require the elevation of the upper limb. RESULTS: A convenience sample of 9 individuals participated in this study, of both genders (5 men and 4 women) with a mean age of 54.1 years (± 3.4 years). The results in all the tasks of the FIT-HaNSA test, showed a greater functional deficit in the operated limb compared to the contralateral limb. In the WORC questionnaire, the sample subjects showed better scores as the post-surgical time increased. CONCLUSION: Although sample participants demonstrate better results in WORC over time, in the functionality test it was observed that patients undergoing rotator cuff repair have a long-term deficit in functionality, even after undergoing rehabilitation.","PeriodicalId":285800,"journal":{"name":"Brazilian Journal of Global Health","volume":"157 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-02-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116104353","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

METHODS: Prospective cohort study of 61 infants with a clinical diagnosis of AVB admitted to the PICU from June/2016 to July/2017. All infants were followed up during the hospitalization period for clinical and laboratory data collection. In addition, it was carried out an interview with the mothers or legal guardians to obtain socioeconomic information and morbid antecedents. RESULTS: Mean age was 6.9 months, the length of PICU stay was 8.4 days, the prematurity rate was 27.9%, 62.7% presented anemia, and the presence of household smoking 56.7%. Pneumonia (34.4%) and atelectasis (26.2%) were the most prevalent clinical complications. In addition, pneumonia was associated with hospitalization time longer than seven days (OR=3.91, p=0.020), severe dyspnea on admission (OR=3.75, p=0.020), and thinness (OR=3.54, p=0.040). None associations were observed for atelectasis. CONCLUSION: The epidemiological data presented in this study can be applied to the improvement of actions targeting ABV control actions in infants, not only by the identification of the prognostic factors associated with pneumonia but also especially by the necessity to provide greater attention and care to infants with AVB who are thinness and present severe dyspnea on admission to the PICU.","PeriodicalId":285800,"journal":{"name":"Brazilian Journal of Global Health","volume":"31 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-11-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130678793","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
