The state of charge is an indicator that conveys the amount of energy available in the battery, information that contributes to better decision-making and energy-efficient protocols by creating smart cross-layer designs. WSN research trends portray the importance of energy-efficient systems by prioritizing energy efficiency over other arguably equally important aspects as throughput, channel utilization, latency, etc. This demonstrates the impact of improving the energy conservation techniques and extending the battery life of the sensor nodes. By using Bayesian inference, more specifically particle filtering, it is shown that the state of charge can be accurately estimated within the linear region of the voltage-SOC curve. Battery discharge experiments are compared to simulations of the voltage-SOC evolution behavior using a state-space representation model, which showed good agreement between the results. The SOC estimation obtained by the particle filter yields essential information that can, and should, be incorporated into MAC protocols.","PeriodicalId":284480,"journal":{"name":"2017 Ninth International Conference on Ubiquitous and Future Networks (ICUFN)","volume":"156 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-07-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131694929","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In the first scenario, the approach of Distributed Base Station (DBS) with remote radio units (RRU) is chosen as the envisioned architecture for future 5G network. This approach is compatible with cloud radio access network (C-RAN), as it has easier scalability and compatibility with future network expansions and upgrades. RRU has been used in this work as a way to sidestep the limited coverage and poor channel condition, which characterise millimetre wave band. This will minimise the number of required sites installation for the same quality of service (QoS). The results of this approach have shown significant improvements in terms of User Equipment (UE) throughput, average cell throughput, and spectral efficiency. In the second scenario, optimising antenna element spacing is considered in the base station array. The results show significant improvement in the network performance and provide better performance for cell-edge users in terms of data throughput.","PeriodicalId":284480,"journal":{"name":"2017 Ninth International Conference on Ubiquitous and Future Networks (ICUFN)","volume":"53 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-07-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128256236","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this paper, dense deployment of small cells in high carrier frequency is considered as the theme of future 5G network. Network densification depicted in this work includes densification over the frequency by the adoption of wider bandwidth in the millimetre wave band, and densification over the space through higher number of antennas, higher sectorisation order, and dense deployment of small cells. The reference signal received power (RSRP) and quality (RSRQ), and signal to interference plus noise ratio (SINR) have been considered as the metrics for the design evaluation. Our results show that network densification has significant importance in improving data rate to meet 5G vision. And that dense deployment of small cells has better performance over higher sectorisation order, due to the higher line of site coverage and lower interference in the former case. In addition, the results show that densification in term of increasing the antennas is also vital to enable spatial multiplexing through multi-input-multi-output and enable beamforming to improve SINR, which eventually improve the data rate. Foliage loss and rain at millimetre wave bands are significant, and therefore, their impact has been evaluated as well.","PeriodicalId":284480,"journal":{"name":"2017 Ninth International Conference on Ubiquitous and Future Networks (ICUFN)","volume":"36 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-07-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127679834","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, due to the dynamic networks, the connectivity is unstable. Under the WANETs, the influences of the connectivity are investigated. Although various models have been proposed to study the issues, the comparisons under different channels fading are lacking. In order to compare the impacts between different channels, we calculate the isolation probability and the whole network probability whether can be connected under Nakagami-m fading and Rayleigh fading two communication channel models in this paper. Moreover, the numerical results show that the presence of two fading channels can greatly affect the connectivity of the wireless Ad hoc networks.","PeriodicalId":284480,"journal":{"name":"2017 Ninth International Conference on Ubiquitous and Future Networks (ICUFN)","volume":"39 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-07-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129743378","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

CSI is used to develop MIMO technology. We measure the waveform of the subcarriers that are exchanged during communication between WiFi devices, and create CSI information, which is then used as an input for a big data algorithm and provides device-free based information that can extract characteristic information about repeated human behavior. To ensure communications, satellite communications have been utilized. However, satellite communications have low throughput which is 60–2000 kbit/s and large time delay which is estimated as almost 240 ms in one way in the case of a stationary satellite. On the other hand, Software Defined Network (SDN) is garnering attention for flexible network building and network faults detection. OpenFlow is one of the realizing ways for SDN, and OpenFlow system is composed of the controller and the switch. The fusion network which is composed of satellite communications and SDN is expected for the wide-area dependable network. In particular, OpenFlow channels for network management are essential, and the deployment of satellite communications on OpenFlow channels is effective to ensure communications. The network scale of OpenFlow network on satellite communications is evaluated using the Flow-mod message which is essential to manipulate the network from the controller. On complete graph with 15 nodes as cities at Toyama prefecture, the controller can send Flow-mod messages to all switches within 210 s. Therefore, the OpenFlow network on the satellite communications is realizable for the dependable network on regional area.","PeriodicalId":284480,"journal":{"name":"2017 Ninth International Conference on Ubiquitous and Future Networks (ICUFN)","volume":"127 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-07-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115962846","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
