The approaches presented are: (1) Survey and Research Scope (2) User Life Pattern Observations (3) Activity Zones and Scenarios (3) Context Database and Context Manager (4) Media and Interface (5) Evaluation. The process and result will lead our following applications of context awareness in future interactive home study.","PeriodicalId":281741,"journal":{"name":"CAADRIA proceedings","volume":"50 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121814701","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In recent years, techniques have also been tested extensively in practice within commercial project setting. This gives rise to an emerging breed of architectural practices whose work is increasingly centred on resolution of complex geometry to realizable projects. The resolution of parametrically driven design to production projects requires a different workflow, as often the compressed timeframe and budget requires the parametric model to cope with multiple streams of construction output as well as utilize the model in concurrent design processes. This paper examines a commercial project as case study to explore the abstraction, reduction and dissemination of information within a digital fabrication workflow. In this project, digital fabrication is deployed to reduce risk; mainly in manufacturing and its lead time. The research reveals how metadesign process at an early stage of the project can contribute to increase efficiency of the parametric model as well as delivering multiple streams of information for all the collaborators: architects, fabricators and builders. The team designed the assembly procedure into the parametric workflow to facilitate off-site and on-site assembly. This is possible through imbedding ‘smart’ detailing and structuring information with the workflow. The paper concludes by reflecting on the workflow and asks if a metadesign driven fabrication workflow can create a more holistic approach to digital fabrication. The outcome of the case study is just one instance of the parametric machine that is developed from an understanding of assembly process. This paper responds to the theme of continuous designing, through looking at digital fabrication as co-emergence of design procedure and practice.","PeriodicalId":281741,"journal":{"name":"CAADRIA proceedings","volume":"40 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116804402","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

As architectural tasks grow more complex and the design of architecture shifts away from the design of end products towards the steering of dynamic processes, new ways of coping with complexity in the design and planning process are needed. Taking this as its starting point, as well as the need for architects to use familiar, established design tools, the CDP research group is working on new ways of supporting the design decisionmaking process with objective information so that designers are better able to manage these complexities. The focus of the group lies on directly coupling interactive simulations and analyses with established design tools. This paper discusses a central problem in this context: how to present complex calculation results directly within a physical 3D-model. The approach described, as evidenced by the realized prototype, shows clearly that directly coupling real and digital information using interactive augmented visualization presents immense possibilities for managing the complexity of planning processes.","PeriodicalId":281741,"journal":{"name":"CAADRIA proceedings","volume":"33 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121041073","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This paper aims to introduce the development of a new-style glue-laminated bamboo (GLB) board structure and evaluating computational technologies aiming to enhance the performance of fibre materials and a set of digital manufacturing processes. Specifically, this paper develops a method to introduce the concept of topology optimisation into the properties of fibre materials. At the same time, it explains the unique structure optimisation design and manufacturing process (including the design process, digital tools and auxiliary equipment system). To test the design, this paper compares the data obtained via the gravity suspension test of the physical model and the simulation. Through digital manufacturing methods, the project aims to establish structural elements that could improve material efficiency. Furthermore, it may establish a GLB floor structure system in line with the material economy.","PeriodicalId":281741,"journal":{"name":"CAADRIA proceedings","volume":"152 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127313286","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
