Because of the lack of standards in music classification (or the lack of enforcement of existing standards), there is a huge amount of unclassified music titles in the world. The authors propose a classification method based on a musical data mining technique based on co-occurrence and correlation analysis that can be used for classification. It gives a new approach to similarity between several titles of music or several artists. We study large corpora of textual information referring titles of music or artists whose names are decided by humans without particular constraints other than readability, and draw various hypotheses concerning the natural similarities that emerge from these corpora. Based on a clustering technique, we show that interesting groups can reveal specific music genres and allow classification of music titles in an objective manner.","PeriodicalId":280252,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings First International Conference on WEB Delivering of Music. The most critical phase of the optical music recognition process is the first analysis of the image sheet. The first analysis consists of segmenting the acquired sheet into smaller parts which may be processed to recognize the basic symbols. The segmentation module of the O/sup 3/ MR system (Object Oriented Optical Music Recognition) system is presented. The proposed approach is based on the adoption of projections for the extraction of basic symbols that constitute a graphic element of the music notation. A set of examples is also included.","PeriodicalId":280252,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings First International Conference on WEB Delivering of Music. Among the emerging applications of music, we can see: music distribution, Internet exploitation of music, cooperative editing of music, production and adoption of multimedia digital objects based on music, distance learning/tuition of music, etc. In many of these applications, the music notation model has to provide distinct mechanisms for modeling symbolic and visual aspects. The WEDELMUSIC format is presented. It is a XML compliant format that presents multimedia capabilities and includes identification, classification, symbolic, visual, versioning, printing, protection, image score, image, document, performance, video, and lyric aspects. It keeps separate visual/formatting and symbolic aspects. It can be profitably used as a format for new applications, and as a format for interchanging symbolic description of music scores. Some examples are given and the DTD of the symbolic part of WEDELMUSIC format is reported. The format is supported by a free music editor.","PeriodicalId":280252,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings First International Conference on WEB Delivering of Music. We are dealing with several sources of musical information (audio, notation, performance, video, images, etc.). On one hand, these sources are similar to those of usual multimedia databases. On the other hand, some specific feature of legacy musical archives call for ad-hoc solutions. In legacy musical databases many relations are implied by the framework (for instance recordings of parts of the same piece), but not made explicit in the content. To address this specific feature, we propose a three-level database schema where the bottom level(source level) describes the source material; the mid level (logical level) describes explicit and implied relationships among bottom-level data; and finally, the top level (catalog level) represents the common catalog data attached to pieces (composer, conductor, data of recording). To support this methodology, we need a language to describe musical content. We survey several mark-up languages (such as SMDL and XML derived languages) and discuss their features w.r.t. our proposed layered database schema.","PeriodicalId":280252,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings First International Conference on WEB Delivering of Music. The amount of data offered on the Internet is increasing constantly. Also, the distribution of copyrighted data plays an important role. To protect this copyrighted digital data, new methods are being developed. One of those is watermarking. Nowadays, music scores are in digital format. Although music scores can be considered as images, image watermarking techniques applied to music scores degrade them. Therefore, we propose a method which does not change the shape of the musical symbols. Our solution respects the content of music scores by modifying features implicitly given in the music notation. The advantages are increased robustness and reduced visual impact. In particular, visibility (or transparency) is an important issue: Some changes might fatigue musicians mentally and they even don't know why. Considering robustness, a watermark should not be removed during the copying processes which are commonly used by musicians. By choosing suitable features, a blind or oblivious detection of the watermark is possible: an original music score is not required and a watermark can be read directly from a given watermarked music score.","PeriodicalId":280252,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings First International Conference on WEB Delivering of Music. We describe several data models for score distribution and emphasize the one used in the MuseData archive of musical data (1984-). This archive (containing substantial quantities of the music of Bach, Handel, Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven, Corelli, and Vivaldi) employs a \"solar\" model of supersets of musical data. From these files, score printing, sound generation, and logical information for musical analysis can be generated. The design, efficiencies, and shortcomings of this 'write-once, convert-many\" system are compared with models emphasizing generic musical-data interchange, and models in which music must be re-encoded for each new application. Finally, these considerations are examined in light of social practices and economic models traditionally associated with the print publication of music in Europe and the U.S.","PeriodicalId":280252,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings First International Conference on WEB Delivering of Music. The project European Music Navigator (EMN) aims to build a destination site covering information on the European musical life. The EMN is implemented by the international umbrella organization IAMIC (International Association of Music Information Centres), under the project leadership of mica (music information center Austria) and is supported by the European Union's funding program Culture 2000. On their own, cultural organizations are often unable to tackle the monetary and informational necessities arising from the struggle for attention and technical equipment in today's flow of information. The EMN project approaches the problem from this very perspective: 80% of the market-share of the revenue-driven part of the musical field is divided only between 4 global players. It has become increasingly difficult for artists to address new audiences for new works. Therefore, it is important to create communication structures for those within the musical field which are strongly devoted to new works and new ways of creativity.","PeriodicalId":280252,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings First International Conference on WEB Delivering of Music. The neural network model of music cognition ARTIST and applications to the WWW 音乐认知的神经网络模型及其在万维网上的应用

Amongst other things, it is able to predict with a very high degree of accuracy how good a short musical sequence will sound to human ears. For this, ARTIST has to be exposed to the same kind of music as the listeners'. Such a model able to recover the rules of music aesthetics according to a particular musical environment, totally under control of the user, can have many applications to the distribution of music through the World Wide Web. The most straightforward application is to build an accurate profile of the user's musical preferences, based on the musical content itself. This should avoid the usual drawbacks of the current search engines and other \"musical advisors\", which base their advice on rigid musical style classifications, and are too general and impersonal. Other applications can range from assisted composition to interactive man-machine duet improvisation or the creation of online alternative versions of songs (remix).","PeriodicalId":280252,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings First International Conference on WEB Delivering of Music. The paper describes a general approach for the identification of audio titles and its application on Internet observation. The concept of an AudioDNA is developed, allowing a highly compressed representation of a sequence of acoustic events. Audio titles are identified by using a sequence matching method which determines similarities between observed and reference AudioDNA stored in a database. This method is implemented in a highly scaleable architecture allowing the identification of several audio titles in parallel. The first results with this system are very promising, only highly distorted audio titles are not identified correctly.","PeriodicalId":280252,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings First International Conference on WEB Delivering of Music.
