Boko Haram insurgency has caused heaps of havoc and negative impacts on Nigerian societies, and most especially in Michika Local Government Area of Adamawa state, many lives were lost, and properties were destroyed. The insurgents left many survivors with scars on their minds and traumatised. Many women have become widows. They were sexually abused, raped, oppressed, displaced, forced into marriage, and forced to accept other religions; some even witnessed the assassinations of their husbands and were traumatised. This paper adopts both narrative and library sources through the use of interviews and focus Group Discussions. This study has investigated and observed the severe impact of Boko Haram activity's negative effects on women. The study hypothesises that holistic trauma counselling is an effective therapy that will cure the soul and provide relief to the mind of the traumatised. The study finds out that many women have experienced different forms of trauma. The study concludes that many women and girls in our culture may appear to be fine on the surface. Still, they silently suffer from melancholy, tension, and hopelessness due to their encounters with terrorists. Pastoral caregivers should work with therapists from diverse areas to establish a strong trauma healing team capable of dealing with all trauma cases. This paper recommends that religious leaders have a greater role than anyone else in providing comfort, recovery, empowerment, and fairness for the survivors.","PeriodicalId":279491,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Guidance and Counselling (JGC)","volume":"15 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-07-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128176937","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The study adopted the descriptive survey research design with a sampling frame of 36 secondary schools, 36 principals and 72 teacher counsellors. In addition, the study employed questionnaires as a means of data collection and the results were analysed using SPSS version 22. The study used descriptive statistics (means, standard deviations and frequencies) in data analysis. The study found that very few teacher counsellors had been fully trained on the interpersonal skills necessary to undertake guidance and counselling within secondary schools. This was bound to negatively affect the implementation of guidance and counselling services in the schools. Therefore, it was recommended that the Ministry of Education and the Teachers’ Service Commission develop clear policy guidelines on the appointment, training of teacher counsellors, workload, remuneration and responsibilities of schools.","PeriodicalId":279491,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Guidance and Counselling (JGC)","volume":"33 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-11-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125911556","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The study employed descriptive and correlational research designs. Data was collected using teacher counsellors’ professional development questionnaire. The findings of this study revealed teacher counsellors have relatively high levels of professional development in guidance and counselling, and teacher counsellors’ professional development in guidance and counselling had a positive statistically significant prediction on school guidance and counselling programme efficacy. It was concluded that the guidance and counselling personnel who are actually full-time teachers with the extra role of counsellor have high levels of professional development in guidance and counselling, and the high levels of professional development positively influenced school guidance and counselling programme efficacy. Teacher counsellors in Kenya are recommended to enhance and manifest professional development in guidance and counselling in an effort to ensure effective school guidance and counselling programme.","PeriodicalId":279491,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Guidance and Counselling (JGC)","volume":"87 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-08-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129739715","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The study used a case study design. The target population was 300,000 people affected and infected by HIV and AIDS epidemic within Kisii Municipality. From an accessible population of 500 people, a sample size of 239 was purposively selected, out of which 128 PLWHAS were support group members, whereas 74 were not, and 25 were family caregivers. Data were collected using questionnaires. A pilot study was done to determine the reliability of the instrument. The questionnaires yielded a reliability coefficient of 0.7815. SPSS version 12.5 for windows) was used to analyse data. The chi-square test was used to determine the presence of any association between Mwanyagetinge Community-Based Care and social discrimination. The data generated by the study established that Mwanyagetinge Community based caregiver visits helped PLWHAS to overcome social prejudice. The recommendation put forward by the study is that the government should give incentives to the community, churches and NGOs to develop the programs meant to assist PLWHAS and prevent the further spread of HIV/AIDS. The plan can be achieved through legislation and policy formulation for the care and protection of PLWHAS.","PeriodicalId":279491,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Guidance and Counselling (JGC)","volume":"32 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-08-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131356418","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Stress affects an individual's physical and mental health, performance and interpersonal relationships. This study involved a survey of 100 non-teaching staff of the Njoro Campus. A proportionate random sample was obtained after the stratification of employees by cadre and gender. The questionnaires were pre-tested, and the researcher implemented necessary modifications before data collection. Data on employee personal traits, job cadre, educational background, attitude to work and stress coping strategies were collected using a questionnaire and self-report test. Data collected were analysed by use of descriptive and inferential statistics. Therefore the research found that members of the non-academic staff are experiencing significant levels of stress. There is a need to establish a staff-support centre at the University, where employees can be offered emotional and psychological support through professional counselling. After taking caution, this study can be generalised to other similar institutions.","PeriodicalId":279491,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Guidance and Counselling (JGC)","volume":"490 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-08-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115301131","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
