Due to optimum requirement of bandwidth and power, the Quadrature Phase Shift Keying (QPSK) is well suited for different applications in mobile as well as satellite communication. Proper pulse shaping technique makes a digital communication system possible to transmit data within a limited bandwidth with a minimum value of Inter Symbol Interference (ISI). In this paper we have presented the measurement results of some useful performance parameters of QPSK system like, Error Vector Magnitude (EVM), Signal to Noise Ratio (SNR) and Bandwidth Efficiency with respect to roll-off factor (α) of Gaussian pulse-shaping filter. The effect of Gaussian filter α on system ISI has been studied by recording the eye diagram of the system. The performance of the Gaussian filter has also been compared with other conventional pulse-shaping filters like, Raised Cosine and Root Raised Cosine filter.","PeriodicalId":277587,"journal":{"name":"2009 International Symposium on Signals, Circuits and Systems","volume":"20 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-07-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115268558","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The pattern segmentation is necessary for further extraction of a set of shape descriptors to be used in a CBIR database for textiles. Five different filters for removing the fabrics texture have been tested: mean, median, Gaussian, soft wavelet thresholding and a new approach based on Wavelet Transform and Independent Components Analysis. For segmentation, due to the poor color content of the images, the binarization proved to be a satisfactory choice. Three algorithms for the threshold computation have been tested: Otsu, background symmetry and triangle.","PeriodicalId":277587,"journal":{"name":"2009 International Symposium on Signals, Circuits and Systems","volume":"37 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-07-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115463576","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

For this implementation, we use the development kit TMS320C6711 DSK with a rapid prototype method. The implemented algorithms are founded on estimators and detectors derived from the maximum likelihood (ML) approach. Feedback and Feedforward structures are considered. These algorithms operate in Non-Data-Aided (NDA) mode or Decision Directed (DD) mode. For the problem of symbol timing recovery synchronization, we used the Gardner, Early Late Gate and Mueller & Muller algorithms. The obtained implementation results are very promising.","PeriodicalId":277587,"journal":{"name":"2009 International Symposium on Signals, Circuits and Systems","volume":"58 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-07-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126035062","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The structure based on agents is of decentralized type, in which agents perform their activities independently. Even if they exhibit good performance in “infinite” precision, their capabilities could be seriously affected when using practical implementation platforms, e.g., digital signal processor (DSP) or field-programmable gate array (FPGA). In this context, several finite-precision effects could seriously bias the acoustic echo canceller (AEC) behavior. In this paper, we present an FPGA implementation of an AEC based on a recently proposed variable step-size normalized least-mean-square (VSS-NLMS) algorithm. Area and speed results are provided for a XC2S600E chip. The overall performance of this AEC indicates that it could be a reliable solution for real-world acoustic echo cancellation scenarios.","PeriodicalId":277587,"journal":{"name":"2009 International Symposium on Signals, Circuits and Systems","volume":"72 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-07-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121887272","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Even if their energy density is ten times lower than the energy density of batteries, supercapacitors offer new alternatives for applications where energy storage is needed. We have done an experimental bench and we have measured the voltage across a supercapacitor in a constant current charge/discharge cycle. The problem of detecting possible cancer areas is very complex due, on one hand, to the diversity in shape of the ill tissue and, on the other hand, to the poorly defined border between the healthy and the cancerous zone. Even though it has been studied for many years, there are still remaining challenges and directions for future research, such as developing better enhancement and segmentation algorithms. In this paper, we propose a microcalcification detection algorithm using an extended region growing technique in a mammography CAD (computer-aided diagnosis) system.","PeriodicalId":277587,"journal":{"name":"2009 International Symposium on Signals, Circuits and Systems","volume":"38 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-07-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123524145","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
