This study explores the application of two modifications of the boundary element method to solve the problem of potential distribution within a closed two-dimensional domain with a uniform potential distribution on its boundary. The first modification involves using three nonlinear shape functions instead of one. The second modification applies the Galerkin method to the boundary element approach with three nonlinear shape functions. The essence of this modification lies in the fact that the system of equations is formulated in integral form over the entire boundary element, rather than at collocation points. In addition to this, the paper describes and investigates the advantages and disadvantages of the smoothing modification applied to these approaches. Since the influence matrix consists of independently computable elements, parallelization of calculations using NVIDIA CUDA technology has been proposed to enhance computational efficiency, significantly accelerating the calculation of interaction matrix. The choice of this technology is advantageous due to the prevalence of NVIDIA graphics accelerators in almost every personal computer or laptop, as well as it is easy to use. The study presents an approach to the application of this technology and demonstrates the results, showing the acceleration of parallelized calculations which show the dependence on the number of boundary elements. A comparison of the efficiency of the selected technology when applied to two methods, collocation and Galerkin, is also presented, indicating a significant speedup of up to 22 times by computing the influence matrix of the boundary elements.","PeriodicalId":276362,"journal":{"name":"Mechanics of Machines, Mechanisms and Materials","volume":"186 4","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-03-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140270773","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The combination of cyclic stresses and a corrosive environment causes wear-fatigue damage, called corrosion-mechanical fatigue. The paper investigates the problem of predicting this type of corrosion-fatigue damage, which occurs in almost all branches of technology, especially in the chemical, oil, metallurgical industries, transport. The work consists of several parts. In the first part a technique for estimating the fatigue limit in a given corrosive environment (direct effect) is developed. The second part analyzes the reverse effect, i.e. the effect of acting stresses on the corrosion rate of metals and alloys, and proposes a method for predicting corrosion-erosion damage with the reverse effect based on the energy criterion. The third part discusses the mechanisms of corrosion-mechanical fatigue with direct and reverse effects taking into account the interacting phenomena of adsorption, hydrogen and corrosion fatigue itself. The concept of diffuse effect of multiple shear, oxidation, transfer is introduced as a complex type of damage in corrosion-mechanical fatigue.","PeriodicalId":276362,"journal":{"name":"Mechanics of Machines, Mechanisms and Materials","volume":"29 4","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-03-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140270536","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The calculated values of load characteristic and radial stiffness of 235/55R17 passenger tire and 46/90R57 all-steel truck tire obtained by finite element modeling in MSC.Marc software package are compared with the results of Biderman model calculation. In a quasi-static setting, the rolling process of the wheel with the 235/55R17 passenger car tire is analyzed in flat motion at a speed of 90 km/h and a rotational speed of 10.1–13.5 Hz. The following load and stiffness characteristics of the tire affecting smooth running, stability and controllability of the wheel are determined: dependence of the rolling radius on torque, circumferential stiffness, dependence of traction with the road surface on the amount of slip, coefficient of slip resistance, dependencies of lateral force and stabilizing torque on the angle of lateral skid.","PeriodicalId":276362,"journal":{"name":"Mechanics of Machines, Mechanisms and Materials","volume":"40 12","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139192826","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Due to the importance of the thermal conductivity factor of the interfacial layer, a refined method is proposed for calculating the boundary thermal resistance. This method considers two counter heat flows: from the matrix to the filler and back, and also provides the condition of zero thermal resistance at the same values of the thermomechanical characteristics of these components. Based on the micromechanical model of the disperse-filled composite, an analytical method is developed for determining the effective thermal conductivity coefficient of the metal-diamond composites. The method makes it possible to take into account the boundary thermal resistance, the presence of a thin coating on the diamond particle, the anisometry of diamond particles and the porosity of the metal matrix. The results of the performed parametric analysis are compared with known experimental data and estimates obtained within the framework of existing models. The conclusion on the validity of the developed method is made. A simplified finite-element model is developed for a representative volume of the metal-diamond composites in the form of a cube formed by an aluminum matrix and containing 27 spherical diamond particles of the same radius with a modifying tungsten coating. At a given temperature difference on the opposite faces of the cube, the distribution of heat flux density and the effective heat transfer coefficient of the metal-diamond composites are calculated. Comparison of the results of using the finite element model and the analytical method mentioned above shows their good agreement. Modification of the finite element model is carried out in order to better match the real internal structure of the metal-diamond composites studied by high-resolution X-ray microtomography. Numerical analysis of the temperature field, thermal stress state and fracture kinetics of the aluminum-diamond composite during thermal cycling is performed.","PeriodicalId":276362,"journal":{"name":"Mechanics of Machines, Mechanisms and Materials","volume":"21 8","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139193656","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It is noted that torque converter cavitation mainly occurs at low gear ratios, the degree of cavitation decreases as the gear ratio increases. Most of the cavitation bubbles formed at the ends of the reactor wheel blades, which led to an unstable change in the moment characteristics and a deterioration in the torque converter performance. The analysis showed that the cavitation process is extremely unstable and periodic, and the development of cavitation near the top of the impeller blade occurs in four stages: the creation, growth, separation and decay of cavitation bubbles.","PeriodicalId":276362,"journal":{"name":"Mechanics of Machines, Mechanisms and Materials","volume":"27 28","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139193912","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The disadvantages of 20Х2Н4A (20Kh2N4A) steel currently used for the manufacture of large-sized MWR bearings are given. It is shown that using this steel it is problematic to achieve a high and uniform distribution of microhardness values over the thickness of the hardened layer. The analysis of the destruction of this type of bearings made of 20Kh2N4A steel largely determining the required life of the motor-wheel reducers, is carried out. The obtained research results indicate the need to use new grades of steels for the manufacture of largesized MWR bearings.","PeriodicalId":276362,"journal":{"name":"Mechanics of Machines, Mechanisms and Materials","volume":"9 5","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139190303","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The most severe in terms of loads and extreme operation mode of tank-containers is chosen as the conditions for the computer experiment, implying an impact in the longitudinal direction when railway cars collide during their dismantling from the hill at marshalling stations. Calculations are performed using the static analysis module Static Structural of the ANSYS Workbench engineering software package for two loading options for a transport tank: a standard one, corresponding to GOST 33211-2014, and a refined loading option for the tank-container shell. Based on the numerical solution of the differential equations system for the liquid cargo movement, the analysis of which is performed using the finite volume method in the CFX module of the ANSYS Workbench engineering software package, the obtained values of hydrodynamic pressures in the tank are accepted as the initial data for the refined computer simulation. Conclusions are drawn on the influence of taking into account the distribution of hydrodynamic pressure inside the transport tank on the stress-strain state of the tank-container. The distributions of normal, equivalent von Mises stresses, as well as deformations for two loading schemes are obtained. Using the Fatigue Tool of the Static Structural static analysis module, the number of cycles that the structure can withstand is determined, taking into account the equivalent stresses concentration areas. The conclusions are formulated based on the computational results, and the recommendations are offered to improve transportation safety and ensure the safety of cargo using tank-containers.","PeriodicalId":276362,"journal":{"name":"Mechanics of Machines, Mechanisms and Materials","volume":"26 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139192808","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

For a thin carbon film with a disordered structure (amorphous carbon, soot), the pressure of transition into diamond will exceed the equilibrium pressure due to the lower surface energy of amorphous carbon compared to the surface energy of graphite. In this case, a decrease in the thickness of the non-diamond carbon film on the surface of a diamond particle leads to an increase in the pressure of the graphite–diamond phase transition. The proposed approach provides the possibility of reducing the synthesis parameters of nanostructured polycrystalline diamond materials without additional use of phase transformation catalysts.","PeriodicalId":276362,"journal":{"name":"Mechanics of Machines, Mechanisms and Materials","volume":"41 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139193483","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This forces engineers and scientists to constantly strive to reduce a noise level emitted by both the vehicle as a whole and individual units and systems. The paper is a continuation of a series of articles devoted to the development of a verified mathematical model of a promising automatic transmission (AT) for a N2 category vehicle, reliably characterizing its vibroacoustic behavior. The article represents the results of a computational and experimental study of the AT vibroacoustic behavior, including the stages of testing, processing and analysis of their results, verification of the computational model created in the Simcenter 3D software product, identification of the main sources of acoustic radiation and the development of proposals for its reduction. The vibroacoustic characteristics of the object of study are obtained, namely frequencies and corresponding acoustic pressure values, their localization on the AT housing is performed. The developed and verified AT model makes it possible to predict the level of vibration and acoustic radiation with satisfactory accuracy. Based on comparative evaluation modeling of various design modification options, the best ones are determined, which allow to obtain the minimum acoustic pressure level at the measurement points and neutralize the most significant forms of vibrations.
