In this paper, we use the concepts from matching theory to form coalitions among cognitive radio users for cooperative spectrum sensing under target detection probability constraint. In the proposed model we make use of one sided matching theory to develop an algorithm for the cognitive radios to form coalitions of varying size to improve their individual gains (.e.g. throughput and probability of false alarm). We show using simulations that the proposed matching algorithm for coalition formation yields significant gains in term of reduced false alarm probability and increased throughput per cognitive radio user as compared to non-cooperative scenario.","PeriodicalId":274642,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE Student Conference on Research and Development (SCOReD)","volume":"15 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-12-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132746386","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In EPS control system, controlling the torque of the EPS motor is crucial where tracking of the robust command of motor angle to generate desired assist torque is very challenging. In this paper, a reference model is adopted to generate an ideal motor angle that can guarantee the desired performance and composite nonlinear feedback (CNF) control is applied to achieve a faster transient response in tracking the robust reference motor angle. The H2 state optimization is used to obtain the linear control parameters whereas Hooke-Jeeves auto-tuning algorithm is used to fine-tune the nonlinear control parameters to achieve the best transient performance. The proposed control strategy is validated with CarSim Software by interfacing Simulink model with CarSim full nonlinear vehicle model under different test procedures and compared to other controllers based on ITAE performance criteria.","PeriodicalId":274642,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE Student Conference on Research and Development (SCOReD)","volume":"13 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122100229","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It is the process of detecting faces in an image or video stream and is an important step that precedes face recognition. Many researchers in recent years are implementing real time and accurate face detection system on FPGA due to computing resource and design flexibility. This paper presents an implementation of a face detection system accelerated on FPGA for high throughput. The proposed system utilizes stream-oriented hardware architecture to perform image pre-processing, skin segmentation, filtering as well as connected component labeling processes. Window-based image processing such as median and morphological filtering were accelerated using line buffering technique to achieve maximum throughput. The detection system was implemented on an Altera Cyclone IV FPGA and was benchmarked against a software implementation using NIOS II soft-core processor. The hardware design achieved a speed-up of 250 times compared to software implementation when processing a RGB video frame of 800×600 pixel size.","PeriodicalId":274642,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE Student Conference on Research and Development (SCOReD)","volume":"2 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128406053","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This paper presents the development of a smart plug with a wireless Zigbee sensor for measuring power consumption of electrical appliances in the HEMS. Experiments were carried out to evaluate the power consumption of a wireless sensor node in a smart plug using only Zigbee as a microcontroller. Experimental results showed that the smart plug using Zigbee is capable of processing and analyzing the analogue sensor signal with lower power consumption. In addition, the data obtained from the wireless sensor is more accurate and smoother as compared with the data obtained from the oscilloscope. The proposed smart plug has the characteristics of simple design, low cost, low power consumption and easy to control electrical home appliances by switching on/off from the HEMS controller.","PeriodicalId":274642,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE Student Conference on Research and Development (SCOReD)","volume":"55 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124008921","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The sub image, which is called template, usually has similarity with a part of the image. The template can be in different size, color or form. Template matching is famously used in image registration and object recognition. In this paper, we focus on the performance of the Sum of Squared Differences (SSD) and Normalized Cross Correlation (NCC)as the techniques that used in image registration for matching the template with an image. This experiment is aiming to compare the ability of both techniques in term of quality of output image as well as the time taken in execution process. Furthermore, it also to test the effect of template image to output image when there is noise and rotation. This paper provides an explanation about the concept of similarity measure techniques and how the algorithms are implementing in image registration process. Finally, the performance of these methods is tested by making comparison based on the value of correlation coefficient that produced from different image templates.","PeriodicalId":274642,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE Student Conference on Research and Development (SCOReD)","volume":"29 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116204080","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The machine also when compared to Field Excitation Flux Switching Machine (FEFSM) and Permanent Magnet Flux Switching Machine (PMFSM), generate much higher performance mainly because it utilise two main flux sources. Dual Rotor Hybrid Excitation Flux Switching Machine (DRHEFSM) is created in order to get high performances machine, much higher than HEFSM. Load analysis is conducted in order to verify the 12Slot-14PoleDRHEFSM machine performances. Through the analysis, the performances of the machine are able to identify. In this Generator a combination of a permanent magnet (PM) and field excitation coil (FEC) are used as the main flux sources. Additional FEC can be used to control the flux so that constant voltage can be produced at various wind conditions. Moreover, twelve coil test analysis, Three Phase coil test flux excited by PM only, Back-EMF at various speed and stack-length conditions, magnetic flux strengthening at various current densities and flux distributions are investigated by using JMAG software. The result shows that the generated voltage is directly proportional with the change of speed and stack-length.
