Big data that is associated with IoT could control systems, affect automation and the process industries require R&D support to shape the concept into a functional asset that resolves the problems of users. Hence, investment in research and development (R&D) as an integral part of any IoT project could be the first step towards project success. The objective of this study is to examine the effects of an investment in R&D and size expansion on the firm value of the top Internet of Things companies. This study examines the top 20 Internet of Things companies in the world spanning the period from 2012 to 2019. By using the panel regression random effect model, this study yields two main conclusions. First, the expansion of size by the companies has a significant impact on promoting the firm value. Second, investment in R&D is negatively associated with the firm value of the IoT companies at the initial stage but the lag effect of investment in R&D is associated positively with the firm value. The significant size expansion impact on the firm value in the IoT firms suggests that the agile size could lead to more efficient use of resources and easy identification of growth opportunities. The second conclusion demonstrates the need for a budget allocation for the investment in R&D for the technological progression and scientific advancement in the IoT companies. Although it takes a few years to observe the significant impacts of investment in R&D on IoT firms, in the long term, it could improve the performance of IoT companies in driving the proliferation of connected devices to enhance human productivity and efficiency.","PeriodicalId":273439,"journal":{"name":"2020 IEEE 8th Conference on Systems, Process and Control (ICSPC)","volume":"30 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-12-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126521923","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This paper investigates wireless information and energy transfer in multi-cell multiple-input-multiple-output (MIMO) systems. An optimisation problem that designs the beamforming matrix is introduced to maximise the sum of total harvested energy collected from all energy receiving terminals while guaranteeing the desired data rate for each information receiving terminal remains above a certain level. Total power constraint at each transmitting terminal that was generated from the renewable energy and purchased from the grid is also considered. The channel capacity that requires the use of slower and less reliable CVX's successive approximation heuristic is formulated, and then, the non-convex problem is transformed into a convex problem form modelled by a semidefinite relaxation (SDR). The results show the effectiveness of the multiple antennas used in all cells provide better performance and also maximise the total harvested energy at all energy receiving terminals.","PeriodicalId":273439,"journal":{"name":"2020 IEEE 8th Conference on Systems, Process and Control (ICSPC)","volume":"23 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-12-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133861576","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Power dissipation and circuit area are crucial factors for such communication systems in portable devices. Ring oscillators are the popular choice for voltage-controlled oscillator (VCO) architecture for Phase locked loop (PLL). This is because ring oscillators exhibit wider tuning range and consume less area on chip. This paper presents a low power ring oscillator designed for wireless application at 5 GHz in the ISM band. A 3-stage starved current voltage-controlled ring oscillator was implemented with $mathbf{0.13} mumathbf{m}$ CMOS technology using ELDO Spice simulator from Mentor Graphics. With supply voltage of 1.2V, the power dissipation is 1.08 mW and the phase noise is -78 dBc/Hz at 1 MHz additionally, the proposed ring oscillator with new delay cell layout size occupied 7.1 by $mathbf{11.7} mumathbf{m}^{mathbf{2}}$.","PeriodicalId":273439,"journal":{"name":"2020 IEEE 8th Conference on Systems, Process and Control (ICSPC)","volume":"76 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-12-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"117305750","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

First, an electrical equivalent model is developed to simulate and model the behaviour of the battery. The battery used in this work is Panasonic NCR18650B and 2RC model is chosen to capture the slow and fast response of the battery. The parameters are identified through the discharging cycle with the help of MATLAB Simulink Design Optimization (SDO). Then, the model is verified through simulations and experiments. Once the model is verified to be within an acceptable range, it is then set to run several drive cycles, including constant current discharge (CCD) and hybrid pulse power characterization (HPPC) test. It is shown that the SOC estimation error using Extended Kalman Filter (EKF) is < mathbf{1}%$ in both simulation and experiment. Finally, the algorithm is flashed into an STM chip and then external circuits are used to collect the real-world data. The SOC is then estimated. A hybrid Columb Counting Method and EKF SOC estimation are introduced to suit the limited flash memory of the chip. The on-chip SOC estimation error is < mathbf{0.5}%$.","PeriodicalId":273439,"journal":{"name":"2020 IEEE 8th Conference on Systems, Process and Control (ICSPC)","volume":"72 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-12-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"117090957","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This control approach is tested on the ROUC computer simulator that features a variable ballast system model, which includes the capacity for free flow of seawater into and out of the ballast tank. The system identification using Autoregressive Exogenous (ARX) method to get the mathematical model for electropneumatic ballast tank model. The PID control based tuning method is used for control performance of capability electropneumatic unit to control the ballast tank. For the conditions modeled in this research, the resulting simulation case studies showed that this control approach enables the variable ballast system to effectively return control authority back to the hydroplanes while altitude-keeping to a variable seabed.","PeriodicalId":273439,"journal":{"name":"2020 IEEE 8th Conference on Systems, Process and Control (ICSPC)","volume":"93 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-12-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127980290","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

New technologies advancement and changing demands are fusing the physical, digital, biological paradigms and engineering world; impacting, altering and changing numerous disciplines especially in the perception of the norm, culture as well as the way human and community lives, work and. The same should apply to the education industry. IR 4.0 has given new impetus to education transformation; we are expecting innovative changes in education. We foresee programme curriculum disciplined by digital physical frames, artificial intelligence; more profound changes in major aspects of content, delivery/pedagogy and structure of education is expected. However, there exist a “dive-in” knowledge gap between “technopreneurship” “entrepreneurship” and “digital commerce”. These three areas are somehow being delivered separately in most university programmes; is this “change” meeting the industry changing demand? Malaysia's digital commerce education is critically far from meeting industry's expectation. This study initiates a successful paradigm shift of delivering techno-commerce entrepreneurship project to the undergraduate students emphasizing a broad range of practical skill-sets, knowledge, exposure and life-long learning in digital entrepreneurship revolution and transformation. The paradigm shift addresses the challenges and obstacles faced by most HLEs as well as giving a general broad overview transforming theory-based courses to a practical-based and thereafter commercialise the project in marketplaces with adoption of technological advances in digital business transformation.","PeriodicalId":273439,"journal":{"name":"2020 IEEE 8th Conference on Systems, Process and Control (ICSPC)","volume":"3 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-12-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128440640","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

An engine lubrication system does have the functions of reducing the friction between the bearing surfaces of moving parts and of heated emission and cleaning up the engine parts with the elimination of carbon and other foreign matter in order to be effectively operational. The lubrication system for these functions is the forced lubrication system in nearly all modern internal combustion engines. Although lubrication systems for internal combustion engines are subject to many variations, their components and operational methods are virtually identical. The lubrication industry strives to create environmentally friendly lubrication options for internal combustion engines, given the continuous environmental legislation. To tackle this challenge, lubricants that comply with environmental standards while maintaining high lubrication performance are required. This paper reviewed the performance of various types of engine oils under different conditions, showing that a great many available references demonstrate that lubricant technologies have a strong potential to develop modern engines. The operational parameters, such as compression ratio, injection pressure and time effects, were reviewed to perform a better comparison to the vegetable oils. In conclusion, current researches on engine oil efficiency still have some problems and challenges to take into account in terms of mechanisms to improve heat transfer, the practical use of engine oil for vehicles and further progress.","PeriodicalId":273439,"journal":{"name":"2020 IEEE 8th Conference on Systems, Process and Control (ICSPC)","volume":"178 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-12-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133979601","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The PD in transformer oil is one of the significant causes of insulation failure and a breakdown. Hence, a sensor is needed to continuously monitor and detect the PD at an early stage on the power transformer. An antenna is one of the sensors that can be used to detect PD based on ultra-high frequency (UHF) method. However, the size of the antenna is the main problem to be installed in the transformer tank. Thus, three types of antenna which are Moore, Hilbert and Peano fractal with the dimension of 10 X 10 cm is designed to operate in UHF range 0.3 GHz to 3 GHz to be able to detect the frequency of partial discharge signal generated by electromagnetic waves. The performance of the proposed antennas in terms of return loss, Voltage Standing Wave Ratio (VSWR) and radiation pattern are analysed and compared for PD detection on the power transformer. Based on the result, the fourth-order of Hilbert fractal antenna was found to be the best antenna for PD detection in power transformer at working frequency range from 0.72 GHz to 2.77 GHz. This antenna also has low threshold of return loss at -36.2 dB for the resonant frequency at 1.67 GHz and the value of VSWR is near to one which is 1.03. Lastly, the radiation pattern of this antenna is almost in hemisphere shape and the gain variation of all frequencies are nearly stable compared to the other types of antenna.","PeriodicalId":273439,"journal":{"name":"2020 IEEE 8th Conference on Systems, Process and Control (ICSPC)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-12-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131144836","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
