Recent studies and research in geology and geophysics also has proven that Bukit Bunuh is a meteorite impact crater. The evolution of archaeological studies in Lenggong Valley had made it being listed as one of the UNESCO world heritages sites on 30 July 2012 through its chronology and importance to the country and world. The evidence of hand axe embedded in the suevite with the dating 1.83 million years shows a clear connection between evidence of archaeology and geology at Bukit Bunuh. The Paleolithic humans at Bukit Bunuh have chosen different raw materials to be used as stone tools and their equipment (Table 1). Most of the stone stools were selected from cherty metasediment and quartzite as their raw materials. Some of the stone tools were made from suevite and quartz. The Planetary and Space Science Center (PASSC), based in University New Brunswick, Canada, has listed six criteria for proving an area to be recognized as a meteorite impact area. One of the criteria is the presence of high pressure mineral polymorphs within in situ lithologies. This mineralogical research was focused to identify high pressure minerals. Samples taken in this research was heavy minerals. The samples were collected by using panning method and covering the Bukit Bunuh, Lenggong and its vicinity. Sampling was done in three phases and 61 samples were analyzed using XRD. As a result, the analysis indicates the presence of high pressure mineral polymorphs in","PeriodicalId":272380,"journal":{"name":"Warta Geologi","volume":"115 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-04-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132455461","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The main aim of this study is to investigate the slope stability of an area located along a steep road in Abha, Asir Region, Saudi Arabia using numerical simulation software -FLAC -3D. The area is frequently facing problems of slope failure due to various factors, including heavy rainfall, faulting planes, shear zones, weak rocks, narrow road sections with horizontal and vertical curves, and anthropogenic activities as well. The geotechnical parameters required as input data is determined from laboratory testing. From the analysis it was observed that the maximum displacement computed in the slope in the x-direction is 0.0162 m and the specific maximum displacement computed in the slope in the z-direction is 0.166 m. The analysis of XX stress shows that the tensile stress occurred along the top of the slope and its value is 45.68 kPa. While analysis of YY stress shows that the tensile stress occurred along the top of the slope and its value is 15.43 kPa. Similarly, it can be seen from the figure of ZZ stress contour that the tensile stress occurred along the top of the slope with value of 15.75 kPa. It was observed that negligible deformation occurred in the y-direction. The places at which the value of factor of safety showed less than one confirms instability.","PeriodicalId":272380,"journal":{"name":"Warta Geologi","volume":"16 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-06-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127917091","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The earthquake that struck the western region of Sabah on June 5th, 2015, with a local magnitude of 5.9, induced severe and extensive land instabilities in areas such as Ranau, Tambunan, Tuaran, Kota Kinabalu, and Kota Belud. Unfortunately, there is only a very limited literature on earthquake induced landslides in Malaysia. Therefore, the aim of this study is to understand the mechanism of earthquake induced landslide at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Ranau using 2D finite element method in RS2. The displacement measured from the slope at SMK Ranau is used to verify the model and the effect of the seismic load has been monitored. A good agreement was found between the numerical model and actual site condition. In depth understanding of earthquake triggered slope failure was successfully studied using the RS2 software.","PeriodicalId":272380,"journal":{"name":"Warta Geologi","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-06-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128680910","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, obtaining the compressive strength or mostly measured, the uniaxial compressive strength (UCS) from the laboratory test requires certain standard and also cost constrain. This paper presents the application of Support Vector Machine (SVM) algorithm to predict the UCS. An algorithm has been tested on a series of rock data using dry density and velocity parameters. The relationship between the dry density, sonic velocity, and UCS was analyzed using RapidMiner Studio software. From the result, it was found that SVM is capable of predicting the missing values with a prediction trend accuracy of 75%. The results obtained and observation made in this study suggests that SVM could be a reliable tool to predict the UCS of a given rock. More robust prediction can be established with bigger sample number. It is worth mentioning, that the program module that has been set up could be used repeatedly for other correlation problems.","PeriodicalId":272380,"journal":{"name":"Warta Geologi","volume":"18 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-03-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130365872","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
