Hence, the quality and the completeness of the network traffic dataset are important for the analysis to yield correct results. However, the quality of the network traffic dataset is never questioned. In this work, we propose a systematic methodology to visually verify the quality and completeness of a network traffic dataset. The methodology analyzes the dataset for topological and protocol distribution properties and verifies whether it conforms to an ideal traffic dataset. It is observed that visual verification process helps to identify flawed and incomplete network traffic datasets.","PeriodicalId":272359,"journal":{"name":"2011 Ninth Annual Communication Networks and Services Research Conference","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-05-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116872422","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

To the best of our knowledge, no technical contributions exist in the open literature at present simulating WUSB and its performance. In this paper, we investigated the performance of the WUSB standards and compared it to the Wimedia Standard using NS-2. The study showed that WUSB can achieve better throughput and more accurate timing control of device activity than using the standard facilities of the WiMedia MAC. Our paper also addressed protocol extensions and improvement to the original WUSB standard to support better Quality of Service (QoS) by adding priority, adaptive packet loss technique and adding backup host selection to prevent mobility failures.","PeriodicalId":272359,"journal":{"name":"2011 Ninth Annual Communication Networks and Services Research Conference","volume":"72 1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-05-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116287614","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We study a user-centric quality of experience based resource allocation problem with several operators, several types of users and different classes of services. We propose a framework for future short term user-operator contractual vision. We also study the equilibrium solution for the mentioned problem using a game-theoretic approach. Based on experimental measurements, we formulate the utility functions for the users and the operators. Our results are validated through OPNET simulations for different service classes including FTP, VoIP and Video streaming over Long Term Evolution (LTE), and Wireless Local Area Networks (WLAN) technologies. We also implement the IPv6 based flow management for congestion avoidance at inter-operator level, and study the performance of various splitting and non-splitting approaches.","PeriodicalId":272359,"journal":{"name":"2011 Ninth Annual Communication Networks and Services Research Conference","volume":"61 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-05-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127263362","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Additionally, one can construct network coding (NC) schemes that allow a single transmissions to be of value to more than one receiver. In this paper, we account for the impact of duty-cycling by modeling the transmissions (for which the intended receiver was not awake) as a form of packet losses. We then use a specifically designed NC scheme to recover those losses. We compare the energy performance and network throughput against continuous (no duty-cycling) operation. The results demonstrate that the particular combination of NC and duty-cycling can provide gains in terms of energy efficiency but these gains are meaningful in particular configurations and under certain constraints.","PeriodicalId":272359,"journal":{"name":"2011 Ninth Annual Communication Networks and Services Research Conference","volume":"30 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-05-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126488970","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

There is also a mechanism to reclaim bandwidth a user has previously shared. The main focus of our investigation is to develop a method for allocating link bandwidth between multiple users on multiple links of a communication network in the face of changing demands, usage patterns, and priorities while still being guided by max-min allocation. The algorithm is generic and could be applied to settings other than data networks such as process scheduling in operating systems, etc. We have tested the feasibility and performance of the algorithm via simulation. We have also integrated it into a commercial product and tested it in a real-world setting. We present the results from both types of tests in this paper.","PeriodicalId":272359,"journal":{"name":"2011 Ninth Annual Communication Networks and Services Research Conference","volume":"41 4","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-05-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"120975207","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The data transfers required for live migration are supported in several commercial products by a protocol called iSCSI (Internet SCSI), which runs on top of TCP. We thoroughly tested the performance of a common open source component, the Open-iSCSI initiator, and found a drastic throughput degradation on 100 Mbps networks where the round trip time was more than about 40 ms. We localized the problem to the TCP send buffer size and tested two methods of setting the TCP send buffer size appropriately. Based on our results, we propose a performance tuning scheme that enables users of Open-iSCSI to achieve significant throughput gains. Our scheme results in a dramatic throughput jump from 14 Mbps to 70 Mbps on a 100 Mbps link with an RTT of 100 ms. We also modified one of the data structures internal to Open-iSCSI to handle multiple memory pages in a single scatter/gather list entry. This modification resulted in an additional 20% throughput increase on a 100 Mbps link with an RTT of 200 ms.","PeriodicalId":272359,"journal":{"name":"2011 Ninth Annual Communication Networks and Services Research Conference","volume":"190 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-05-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132851760","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We consider a joint scheduling and network coding problem in wireless multicast networks to maximize the throughput. The new approach for scheduling is based on bundling together the interference-free links with similar capacities in the same network realization. For the tested networks, the proposed scheduling results in 14% improvement in average throughput compared to the existing schedules, where the realizations are selected only to prevent interference without taking into account the difference in link capacities. The throughput improvement for some networks is as large as 23%.","PeriodicalId":272359,"journal":{"name":"2011 Ninth Annual Communication Networks and Services Research Conference","volume":"108 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-05-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133132935","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this paper we introduce ADDER, a probabilistic, hybrid, directory-less service discovery mechanism. It has been designed for military IPv6-based MANETs but will work in any hybrid wired-wireless deployment. It achieves very low service acquisition time through the exchange of a very small number of short messages. Propagation of service descriptions is based on a distance vector algorithm, achieving loop and starvation freedom through a feasibility condition, which has been adopted from established and well-tested routing protocols. This paper also presents evaluation results, obtained by actual execution of the ADDER daemon on two different test beds. The experiments aim to demonstrate that the mechanism achieves good scalability with increasing number of services and network size.","PeriodicalId":272359,"journal":{"name":"2011 Ninth Annual Communication Networks and Services Research Conference","volume":"94 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-05-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126079436","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

RF channels have also provided, in large part, connectivity within the Radio Access Network (RAN) and the Core Network (CN) for the purpose of connecting mobile users to the Public Switched Telephone Networks (PSTN) and Internet. However, other methods may be necessary in order to provide the faster data rates required by many new and emerging applications. This paper provides a comprehensive overview of the potential role for Free Space Optical (FSO) communications within next generation cellular networks. The argument is made that the increasing number of base stations, as well as the advanced topologies supported by next generation cellular networks, pave the way for a growing reliance upon FSO communications, with a view to support the high bandwidth applications offered to mobile users.","PeriodicalId":272359,"journal":{"name":"2011 Ninth Annual Communication Networks and Services Research Conference","volume":"17 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-05-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124657641","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In DKE, we propose that sensor nodes use neighboring signatures to establish their keys. Pre-distributed keys are used by actor nodes to strengthen communication security. We show that nodes can get guaranteed security when actors are connected and cover the network area and high security confidence can be achieved even without actor nodes when the adversary (malicious node) density is small. In DTLBS-WSANs, key (certificate) establishment, storage and look up are performed in a distributed way. Multiple copies of a certificate can be stored at nodes to improve key security and counter the adverse impact of network disruption.","PeriodicalId":272359,"journal":{"name":"2011 Ninth Annual Communication Networks and Services Research Conference","volume":"5 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-05-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125160093","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
