In this context, multipath propagation is exploited, as the individual received signals can be seen as different instances of the same physical phenomenon (i.e. transmission and reception of WCDMA sequences). As results indicate, the deployment of PCA technique in MIMO-WCDMA networks can significantly reduce the number of active channels that need to be fed back to the transmitter. In particular, for 10/20/30 active users and six multipath components, the mean number of estimated channels that are necessary for appropriate signal reception are 4.2/3.88/3.89 for a Signal to Noise Ratio equal to 6 dB.","PeriodicalId":272122,"journal":{"name":"2014 Loughborough Antennas and Propagation Conference (LAPC)","volume":"18 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-12-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116962196","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It exploits two models of the array under design: an array factor-based model and a simulation-based surrogate model. The former produces an initial design. The latter is used for tuning of the array radiation response as well as for validation of the final design. The simulation-based model is constructed as a superposition of simulated responses of the array under design. Low computational costs are ensured by coarse-mesh simulations. Suitable correction is carried out with respect to the high-fidelity array model. This correction is iteratively performed in the optimization process. Our technique is demonstrated with radiation response synthesis of linear arrays comprising thirty two microstrip patch antennas by phase-spacing optimization.","PeriodicalId":272122,"journal":{"name":"2014 Loughborough Antennas and Propagation Conference (LAPC)","volume":"10 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-12-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"117183474","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Several three-dimensional localisation experiments have been performed, using a miniature tapered-slot antenna mounted on the human body as a mobile station and three Vivaldi antennas as base stations, to comprehend the level of accuracy that can be achieved and assess how precisely the tiny movements of the mobile station could be resolved. Time of Arrival data fusion and peak detection techniques have been used to compute the position of the target node in terms of x, y, z cartesian coordinates. The antennas are envisioned to be employed in a pulse based time-of-flight motion tracking system, using the upper end of the UWB band. The geometry and performance of a UWB Vivaldi antenna designed for the project is also presented.","PeriodicalId":272122,"journal":{"name":"2014 Loughborough Antennas and Propagation Conference (LAPC)","volume":"106 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-12-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"117258301","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However signal strength is highly affected by the existence of nearby object and particularly metallic object. This paper suggests the use of change in antenna return loss caused by electromagnetic coupling with nearby object as an indicator for object existence. The antenna itself will act as sensor for nearby metallic object, therefore any distortion in received signal strength due to the object can be identified. The surface is optimized for reducing specular scatter at oblique angles of incidence. Compared to the original comb reflection FSS (CR-FSS), effective reduction in specular scatter is possible despite a large decrease in effective height, ensuring surface installation is as low profile as possible for integration into building materials and infrastructure. Frequency plots show the effect of changing the slant angle between 9 and 18 GHz.","PeriodicalId":272122,"journal":{"name":"2014 Loughborough Antennas and Propagation Conference (LAPC)","volume":"21 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-12-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114694994","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The design is based on a recently published dome antenna with conformal meanderlines and fed by a microstrip network. By modifying both the meanderlines and microstrips, the antenna is shown to have a voltage standing wave ratio (VSWR) below 3 for the primary 2.45 GHz band and a 3.5 GHz band. By altering this new feed structure, the antenna can be shown to increase the bandwidth at the 2.45 GHz band by nearly 100 MHz for VSWR equals 3. Rapid prototyping of two antenna designs was carried out using 3D additive printed substrates metalized by Damascening conductive silver ink; the manufactured antennas are scaled up to four times the size of simulations, and offer quick validations of the simulation claims.","PeriodicalId":272122,"journal":{"name":"2014 Loughborough Antennas and Propagation Conference (LAPC)","volume":"19 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-12-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114700910","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

They invoke the principle that resonance-fields balanced across a dielectric medium occupy less volume than they would in equivalent air-loaded antennas. It has also been shown that circular-polarization discrimination is important for accurate position determination using GNSS systems in multi-path environments such as may exist in modern cites. The paper proceeds to analyze the more general benefits of circular-polarization discrimination in respect of the spatial capacity of MIMO systems. Damping of reflections from the device, caused by body-loading, reduces radiation efficiency but has been shown to actually improve circular-polarization discrimination between antennas of this type. Circular/elliptical polarization can be seen as always resulting from superposition of sources of differing static dipole direction and phase separation. Therefore such discrimination presents an opportunity to exploit linear independence of cross-polar summations which occur in close proximity to each other. Finally the paper considers the manufacturability of such antennas and describes some advances that have been made at Maruwa Co Ltd.","PeriodicalId":272122,"journal":{"name":"2014 Loughborough Antennas and Propagation Conference (LAPC)","volume":"15 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-12-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130023452","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
