Instead of interrupting communication periodically to transmit training sequences, a watermark is transmitted continuously through the channel along with the user signal. By analyzing the received watermark, the equalization filter is continuously adapted to match the channel characteristics. When dealing with correlated user signals, a prediction-error filter is introduced to whiten the equalizer output before comparing it to the reference signal (the watermark), allowing for the appropriate inversion of the channel transfer function. Simulation results are presented to demonstrate the viability of this approach.","PeriodicalId":271294,"journal":{"name":"2006 International Telecommunications Symposium","volume":"28 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2006-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131416824","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The proposed OLPC algorithm can take full advantage of the HARQ protocol since its operation is not affected by the signaling delay between node B and radio network controller (RNC). However, when the Node B-located OLPC is considered in a soft handover (SHO) situation, the Carrier-to-interference Ratio (CIR)-drift problem that emerges compromises the OLPC performance, and some mechanism to compensate for the CIR-drift problem is required. Both an aggressively tuned anti-windup function and an retransmission sequence number (RSN)-based functionality handle this problem. The proposed Node B-located OLPC is evaluated for 2 ms and 10 ms transmission time intervals (TTIs). It is observed that the Node B-located OLPC provides gains in terms of lower CIR and is more beneficial for 2 ms TTI, since the RNC signaling delay has rather severe impact in a shorter round trip time (RTT).","PeriodicalId":271294,"journal":{"name":"2006 International Telecommunications Symposium","volume":"25 2","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2006-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132639015","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

One of the recently proposed solutions is the so called traffic engineering with MPLS. In this paper, we propose a novel approach for adaptive fuzzy model-based flow control in MPLS networks. Current research treats MPLS as the Internet's solution to high performance network. A nonlinear predictive controller is designed on the basis of a Takagi-Sugeno fuzzy model. By online adaptation of the fuzzy model, high control performance can be achieved for network traffic processes multiplexed in a single buffer server. Our developed fuzzy predictor consists of a two-step algorithm: an adaptive training with covariance resetting and a gradient-based learning algorithm for refining the first part of the learning procedure. The effectiveness and online applicability of the proposed approach are demonstrated by simulations using real network traffic traces. In fact, the proposed approach is capable of providing better system performance than some existing flow control schemes.","PeriodicalId":271294,"journal":{"name":"2006 International Telecommunications Symposium","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2006-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133126322","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The contributions of this paper could be classified in two groups. Firstly, we extend previous investigations in terms of performance results, regarding a system-level dynamic evaluation. Performance indicators like coverage, SNR, rate and offered traffic load are included as algorithm criteria. An AS algorithm based on theoretical throughput estimation is also evaluated. Secondly, we propose a sub-optimum access selection solution, in which the arriving user as well as a few ongoing users are (re)assigned according to the new systems' conditions, following the specific optimization criterion. This solution selects candidate users to a vertical handover and anticipates the user context transfer. The approaches presented here assume a generic system modeling and user throughput characteristics as performance indicator. Analytical expectations are confirmed by means of simulation campaigns. Then, we could demonstrate that the access selection with connection reallocation provides gains about 290% in the 10th percentile of the user session throughput.","PeriodicalId":271294,"journal":{"name":"2006 International Telecommunications Symposium","volume":"322 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2006-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122705200","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Basically, corners are high curvature points (HCP), which can be detected by contour analysis. In this paper we propose an approach to detect corners using multiscale analysis. The algorithm provides an undecimated wavelet decomposition of the angulation signal of a shape contour and the high curvature points are identified by correlating multiple redundant scales. The goal is to detect the dominant points of a shape that accurately represent it. Assessment results have shown that the method succeeded in reconstructing the shape contour using the detected HCPs. A novel evaluation measure is also presented in order to confirm that the proposed algorithm outperforms other methods used for testing and comparison purposes. The technique is promising and effective for image retrieval applications.","PeriodicalId":271294,"journal":{"name":"2006 International Telecommunications Symposium","volume":"9 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2006-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128006939","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The proposed quasi-Yagi antenna represents an improvement over existing printed antenna topologies, simultaneously exhibiting increased bandwidth, excellent radiation properties, and simple construction. The antenna was firstly designed to work at 2.4 GHz, satisfying the standards of Bluetooth system and WLAN, and finally was optimized to include the frequency of 1.9 GHz and PCS applications. The simulation and design optimization were done by a commercial software, CST Microwave Studio, that uses the Finite Integration Technique (FIT). Therefore, as part of its specifications, such a system must properly address the combined requirements of wireless communications and multimedia applications. We propose in this paper an extension to the MAC protocol presented in [1, 2], by assigning variable priorities to the network stations sharing access to the communication channel. An analytical model to evaluate the performance of the proposed protocol is also developed and results obtained for the messages waiting times at different stations are presented. In addition, simulation data are used to compare the results obtained from the analytical model presented previously. It is concluded that the proposed variable priority MAC protocol is able to improve channel utilization and provide throughput and queueing delay fairness among the stations in the network.","PeriodicalId":271294,"journal":{"name":"2006 International Telecommunications Symposium","volume":"87 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2006-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116840075","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
