The report estimated this damage at EUR 85 billion (OECD/EUIPO, 2016). The presence of counterfeit products on the European market is on the increase, therefore the intervention of inspection bodies and authorities alone is not sufficient, consumers can make their contribution and support this process. 2003 started the EU a program “Rapid Alert System” as an information platform to publish alerts about dangerous products in the market. Over 2 000 alerts published by the system yearly. Thus, allowing local authorities to screen their market and take appropriate action should the same product be found (Directorate-General for Justice and Consumers (European Commission), 2018). In this paper, we propose the foundations of a new system for decentralizing product certificate based on blockchain technology which close the gaps of the unilateral published digital certificate. The decentralizing of product certification by using blockchain technology empowers consumers by easily verifying a product certificate, at the same time enable certification bodies to issue and sharing a certificate in tamperproof ways. This could be one of the important steps in the direction to reduce counterfeiting. The goal of this paper is to create a new category of applications in which the end-user identifies counterfeit product certificates and contribute to the fight against product piracy.","PeriodicalId":270658,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 18th International Conference on WWW/Internet 2019","volume":"109 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-11-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124672343","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The connection between HEIs and the labor market is why the effectiveness and quality of the provided services of academic institutions tend to be evaluated in terms of the time it takes for their graduates to find employment. This paper presents work from the EU funded research project QualiChain that aims to transform and revolutionize the domain of public education as well as its interfaces with those of private education, the labor market, public and private organizations and society at large, drawing its added value proposition from the challenges currently faced in these domains. The ultimate goal of the project is the development of the QualiChain platform that will offer blockchain-enabled verification of education and other credentials as well as data analytics and decision support for process optimization. The platform will be validated via its implementation in four different pilot cases. The present paper focuses on the pilot of optimizing university operations through semantically enhanced data and advanced decision support algorithms that will be implemented in the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA).","PeriodicalId":270658,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 18th International Conference on WWW/Internet 2019","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-11-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128910688","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This review aims to address a gap in the literature by identifying a standardization of digital advertising ecosystem visualization and explanation. Achieving this aim will bring together fragmented literature to serve as a foundation for research into digital advertising ecosystems and other related research. There are discrepancies, which imply different understandings of how the advertising ecosystem elements work and communicate. This work should minimize the risk of wrong conclusions in literature as well as in practice. The author therefore recommends a visualization; future researchers should challenge.","PeriodicalId":270658,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 18th International Conference on WWW/Internet 2019","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-11-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122012889","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, that does not mean that all data is available while launching the respective application. While considering Web 2.0 applications, data is often fetched on-demand from remote web services, for example, after a location was provided, weather data could be fetched, and local news is loaded. This mashup approach is highly dynamical, i.e., based on the data input of the user, completely different execution paths might be performed. Currently, such workflows are implemented within the application logic requiring high development effort and maintenance of the implemented logic to prevent unintentional behavior. In this paper, we present a novel approach to integrate web services dynamically, to decrease deployment and maintenance costs and to enable the next generation of interlinked data web applications to enables application architects to (re)define the data integration in a descriptive way in an ontology, validate the workflows and define logical requirements. However, our approach is not just a design method but also a method for ad hoc integration of new services. Our approach has a significant impact on the effort for generating and maintaining dynamic applications.","PeriodicalId":270658,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 18th International Conference on WWW/Internet 2019","volume":"50 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-11-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123624760","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

To achieve this goal, we conducted a case study on Facebook, which aimed to evaluate the sociability on this online social network in the perspectives of experts in HCI and elderly users view point. The results showed that the interface and interaction model of Facebook reflects on the experience of use and sociability of this members' group. As contributions, we present insights about the design and evaluation of social software more focused on the sociability of elderly users.","PeriodicalId":270658,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 18th International Conference on WWW/Internet 2019","volume":"56 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-11-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121036401","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

These small services can be developed, tested and deployed more easily than a single complex monolith. Another aspect which favors microservice architectures is their vast horizontal scalability under high load. But it is often overlooked if their performance is really superior compared to monolithic applications. We investigated test strategies on microservices and defined performance metrics in order to compare the performance of a web-based test application implemented as a monolith as well as a microservices re-implementation. The goal is to decide whether the effort was worth to re-implement our audience response system as microservices or not.","PeriodicalId":270658,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 18th International Conference on WWW/Internet 2019","volume":"89 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-11-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131897512","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
