With the increasing popularity of Ethereum, comprehensive understanding of its various properties plays a critical role in the widespread adaptation. However, due to the significant requirements for deploying a full Ethereum blockchain and high running costs, it is challenging to study the dynamic properties of the Ethereum. In this work, we propose eVIBES, a configurable simulation framework for gaining empirical insights into the dynamic properties of Ethereum.","PeriodicalId":269249,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 19th International Middleware Conference (Posters)","volume":"29 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-12-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123452447","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The behavior of a placement is strongly influenced by the underlying environment e.g., the workload of queries or performance objectives of a large number of users. Due to this reason, it is not sufficient to build Distributed Complex Event Processing (DCEP) just on a single placement mechanism, but it can benefit from an adaptive use of multiple placement mechanisms. Tcep provides this by (i) supporting key interfaces to develop OP mechanisms, (ii) allowing a dynamic exchange of OP mechanisms based on the user requirements and (iii) facilitating deployment of the operators on a wide range of network infrastructure. In this demonstration1, we (i) provide an understanding on the behavior of OP mechanisms in Tcep on large-scale networks using GENI testbed2 and (ii) show using the transition methodology in Tcep, that different OP mechanisms can be utilized to fulfill the performance requirements of a large number of users.","PeriodicalId":269249,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 19th International Middleware Conference (Posters)","volume":"11 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-12-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125545184","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The serverless paradigm simplifies the development and deployment of highly available applications by delegating most of the operational concerns to the cloud providers. The serverless paradigm describes a programming model, where the developers break the application downs into smaller microservices which run on the cloud in response to events. In this paper, we propose a design of a serverless pub/sub system based on the Amazon Web Services Lambdas and Microsoft Azure Functions. Our pub/sub system performs topic-based, content-based and function-based matchings. The function-based matching is a novel matching approach where the subscribers can define highly customizable subscription function which the broker applies to the publications in the cloud. We also provide an evaluation application for investigating the scalability of the designed brokers on different serverless platforms.","PeriodicalId":269249,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 19th International Middleware Conference (Posters)","volume":"82 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-12-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126258750","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In particular, the Document Object Model (DOM) is used in conjunction with JavaScript processing to access and modify the state of heterogeneous devices within an IoT middleware platform. Using web-based technologies, the same principles as in client side web development can be applied to implement desired actions on devices. A plugin mechanism is provided, which allows the modification of device state processing scripts during run-time of the middleware platform. The major advantage of using web technologies is that the use cases on the middleware platform can be easily implemented by developers with knowledge in the field of web development. To improve development efficiency, well-known JavaScript libraries like jQuery can be used as well.","PeriodicalId":269249,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 19th International Middleware Conference (Posters)","volume":"5 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-12-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129389718","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, mid-size platforms represent 20%-40% of the worldwide public cloud market, and their usage under the form of on-premise cloud solutions is increasing. This popularity requires a better understanding of mid-size platforms' workloads, in order to optimize the way schedulers allocate resources. In this work, we study the scheduled workload of a mid-size platform and show it has different patterns than that of a hyperscale cloud.","PeriodicalId":269249,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 19th International Middleware Conference (Posters)","volume":"181 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-12-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116000225","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
