However, the challenges posed by having a large number of users such as power control, frequency synchronization and independently faded channels scales with the number of users. Cooperative communications is a candidate technology for high data rate and multi-user communications. In this paper, a new design of distributed network codes is introduced. These network codes are based on algebraic constructions in finite fields. Finite fields have an attractive feature of constraining transmit signal energy and is resilient to fading channels. The codes have high diversity and scale up with an arbitrary number of users. The codes are an alternative to Generalized Dynamic Network Codes without a restriction on the field size. Results are compared to theoretical evaluations and systems with similar configurations.","PeriodicalId":265963,"journal":{"name":"Int. J. Handheld Comput. This method can be utilized for generating arbitrary prescribed probability density functions pdf. A cybersecurity engineering problem associated with Internet traffic is addressed. The synthetic Levy-walks process is intertwined with sections of distinct characteristics creating a composite signal that is analyzed through zero-crossing rate ZCR within a varying-size window to identify sections. The advantages of the ZCR computation directly in the time-domain are appealing for real-time implementations. Moreover, the characterization of the degree of closeness, via the Kullback-Leibler divergence KLD, among the pdfs of arbitrary processes focusing on Levy walks and model pdfs is presented. The results obtained from the KLD experiments provide a categorical determination of the closeness degree. These results, a remarkable achievement in this research, are also promising to be used as features for classification of complex signals in real-time.","PeriodicalId":265963,"journal":{"name":"Int. The majority of these systems cannot detect the size and location of the damage. Guided wave techniques are widely used to detect damage in structures due to its sensitivity to different changes in the structure. Finding a mathematical model for such system will help to implement a reliable and efficient low-cost SHM system. In this paper, a mathematical model is proposed to detect the size and location of damages in physical structures using the piezoelectric sensor. The proposed model combines both pitch-catch and pulse-echo techniques and has been verified throughout simulations using ABAQUS/ Explicit finite element software. For empirical verification, data was collected from an experimental set-up using an Aluminum sheets. Since the experimental data contains a lot of noises, a Butterworth filter was used to clean up the signal. The proposed mathematical model along with the Butterworth filter have been validated throughout real test bed.","PeriodicalId":265963,"journal":{"name":"Int. J. Handheld Comput. In technology based modules, such as those taught in Mechanical Engineering courses, the psychomotor content takes precedence over other domains of teaching and learning. Effective integration of pedagogical content within the Mechanical Engineering modules is of utmost importance for effectiveness in teaching and learning processes in these modules. Published literature is limited in this regard, and hence, the present study focuses on developing a novel an information quality framework for Mechanical Engineering modules, through which an enhanced treatment has been provided to the pedagogical content, in order to meet the educational goals and the industrial requirements worldwide. The novel information quality framework developed in the present study can be used as a guideline for measuring the effectiveness of Mechanical Engineering modules.","PeriodicalId":265963,"journal":{"name":"Int. We propose a unified framework that will provide a robust set of guidelines for sensors with varied degree of complexities connected to common set of System-on-Chip SoC. These will help to monitor, control and visualize real time data coming from different type of sensors connected to these SoCs. We have defined a set of APIs, which will help the sensors to register with the server. These APIs will be the standard to which the sensors will comply while streaming data when connected to the client platforms.","PeriodicalId":265963,"journal":{"name":"Int. J. Handheld Comput. This paper proposes a Mobile Decision Support System MDSS suitable for Higher Learning institution. To arrive to the proposed design, researchers used traditional research techniques such a questionnaire and interview to understand the way decision makers operate in their respective organizations. Using four higher learning institutions located in Dar es Salaam as case study, data were collected, digitized and analyzed. Results showed that despite having access to computers and other forms of information technologies, most decision makers rely on tradition methods such word of mouth, document review and meetings to arrive to most of their decisions. Many participants expressed their skepticism on the state of the information and communication technologies ICT infrastructures as some turned to their subordinates and offline sources as their convenient ways to gather information.","PeriodicalId":265963,"journal":{"name":"Int. The system uses Microsoft Kinect to track the motion of consented users non-intrusively. The system relies on the use of a smartwatch to deliver an alert via vibration and text display whenever a wrong activity that violated the proper body mechanics has been detected. A core contribution of this study is a registration mechanism for a healthcare professional to explicitly give permission to the system to monitor his or her activities. Furthermore, a non-intrusive biometrics-based single sign-on mechanism is incorporated into the system to allow a user to be automatically identified for tracking as long as the user has manually registered with the system before. Finally, the system offers a number of configurations to accommodate different usability needs and privacy requirements.","PeriodicalId":265963,"journal":{"name":"Int. J. Handheld Comput. Since the appearance of the iPhone -and also later of the iPad-, terminal vendors had lost traction as triggers of innovation within the mobile content ecosystem, giving way to the current platform-based paradigm of leadership. This paper proposes examining the innovation potential of wearable devices on the whole mobile set of actors, starting from a two-scenarios premise: one of sustaining innovation, and a second scenario of more prominent influence. The research finds significant innovating potential for the smart kind of wearables, with a range of influence that can modify the course of all current mobile players. Also, it points at the possibility that a strong development of these items can eventually give birth to a new kind of media, specifically conceived for the wearable experience.","PeriodicalId":265963,"journal":{"name":"Int. The concepts of mediation and mediatization, as well as the processes of belonging and social cohesion are discussed and operationalized in the context of an empirical study. Data from mobile internet adoption and use will be discussed in the light of the above mentioned theoretical approaches. Two complementary views are approached -mobile internet stakeholders' and users'-encouraging a discussion on the interdependencies between individual adoption patterns and market derived determinants in a socio-cultural environment where technology adoption and diffusion happens. Results will provide contributions for the understanding of this type of technology adoption processes and the increasing importance of mobility in cultural and social practices, promoting an exciting discussion on the centrality of media nowadays and the current transformation processes society is undergoing.","PeriodicalId":265963,"journal":{"name":"Int. However, with the exception of fitness apps and a few isolated cases, most mhealth apps have not gained traction. The barriers preventing patients and care providers from using these apps include: for patients, information that contradicts health care provider advice, manual data entry procedures and poor fit with their treatment plan; for providers, distrust in unknown apps, lack of congruence with workflow, inability to integrate app data into their medical record system and challenges to analyze and visualize information effectively. In this article, the authors build upon previous work to define design requirements for quality mhealth apps and a framework for patient engagement to propose a new reference architecture for the next generation of healthcare mobile apps that increase the likelihood of being useful for and used by patients and health care providers alike.","PeriodicalId":265963,"journal":{"name":"Int.
