{"title":"Association of Process Theology with Artistic Practices on the Basis of Ecological Thought","authors":"N. Degirmenci, T. In this respect, ecology, which aims to reconcile human beings with nature, also took its place in the history of civilization before it was called a science, and it was seen when the basic principles of ecology were not yet determined. The under-standing of the process that evolves in nature has been gathered by Alfred North Whitehead under the headings of “Enjoyment,” “God-Relatedness,” “Incarnation,” “Creativity and Self-Determination,” “Creativity, Self-Expression,” and “Novelty.” When the thought of Whitehead, who explains the concept of the process with these doctrines, and ecological thought come together, the question of what are the artworks that propose an ecological approach through the process with the participation of other living things can be asked. Namely, the question of which artworks in the plastic arts can be adapted to both Whitehead’s theological process concept and ecological thought can be explored. In this context, the existence of a network of relations extending from ecological thought to Whitehead’s theological process thought and from there to works of art in the plastic arts can be examined. Structured Abstract This research is important in the context of combining three different disciplines: ecological thought, Whitehead’s process philosophy, and plastic arts. In this respect, this interdisciplinary study first investigated what ecological thought is and where its origins can be based. While “ecology” did not even exist as a concept in history, people made a number of applications in which they could live in harmony with nature and laid the foundations of ecological thought. For these applications, the Shamiram (Menua) Canal to transport water to Tushpa, the capital of the Urartu State, the drain pipes in Ur, one of the Sumerian city-states, and the Moray (Inca ruin) built in Peru to increase the productivity of the land were chosen as examples. These examples show that people lived in harmony with ecological thought even when they did not know a concept as ecology yet. According to Whitehead, at the most basic level, the concept of the process consists not of material substances that do not disappear but of instantaneous events that take the form of experience. The concept of process, which Whitehead shaped with this basic point of view, consists of actual existence and actual events. To illustrate this situation, the process is the experience situations that grasp each other like “water droplets, not like beads” strung on a straight rope and are in contact with each other. Thus, the interaction of these actual entities with actual actions creates the past, present, and future. Cobb and Griffin put forward a number of doctrines to explain Whitehead’s concept of the process: “Enjoyment,” “God-Relatedness,” “Incarnation,” “Creativity and Self-Determination,","PeriodicalId":265023,"journal":{"name":"Art and Interpretation","volume":"84 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-04-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126198771","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
