Teachers' knowledge and motivation, and teachers' teaching techniques, determine how students understand science concepts. In the journey of taking students to innovations in education, the teacher who provides science education in the classroom has a great responsibility (Research and Development Branch, 2017). It is also necessary to identify the problems faced by students in building science education. The analysis of the examination department's results and evaluation reports shows that compared to other subjects, the minimum mark is obtained for the science subject. The Sri Lanka Examination Department's 2017 G.E.C. (G.E.) evaluation report also shows that among the three fields of science, biology, chemistry, and physics, the facility for the field of chemistry is low. For this reason, it was the main interest of this research to find out the correlation between student performance and conceptual understanding of students who learn the content of the chemistry subject of the science subject. For that purpose, the size of the sample was determined using the table of determination of the sample size presented by Krejcie & Morgan (1970) and the correlational study research strategy using 400 students of 08 secondary schools in the Kegalle district of Sri Lanka selected through a cluster random sampling method as the sample. The research was conducted using a quantitative design. For this, Katerina Salta & Chryssa Tzougraki (2004) used an aptitude test set according to the Liket scale and a structured type of achievement test set according to Bloom's classification to find out the level of concept perception of 11th grade students in a school in Greece. A control test was administered to 10% of the research instrument sample. By analyzing the data collected, the research instruments were standardized. Then by giving the research equipment to the main sample, the collected data was analyzed, and conclusions were drawn from the data interpretation. Here, a positive correlation of Pearson correlation coefficient (r= + 0.720) was found between students' conceptual understanding and student achievement. It was recognized that appropriate student-centered methods should be used in the learning and teaching process as student achievement increases when students' conceptual understanding increases.","PeriodicalId":263947,"journal":{"name":"International Journal on Bioinformatics & Biosciences","volume":"7 3","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-04-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140653222","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This achievement demonstrates the viability of protein synthesis. The genetic codes occupy RNS digits and enable sequence comparison as well as further analysis of biological flaws known as mutations. In this research work two mRNA reading frames (strings) are considered as strings of RNS digits. Triplets of these residue number digits constitutes an amino acids and chains of these triplets make up polypeptides, proteins. These digits are compared and single digits errors introduced, these errors mimic biological errors (mutations). The types of errors (mutations) that are manifested between the two reading frames, original and mutant, are detected and reported.","PeriodicalId":263947,"journal":{"name":"International Journal on Bioinformatics & Biosciences","volume":"131 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-06-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132328720","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This builds a harmonious relationship between mathematics and molecular biology. Although very unsuccessful in his quest to provide the representation of the genetic code, with the diamond code, but his mathematical postulation of the genetic code being a 4 by 4 by 4 codon representation of 64 codons was correct. Bioinformatics ascribe digits to nitrogenous bases, binary digits, but there has been proponents for a quaternary number system representation of the genetic code since the code is made of the four (4) nitrogenous bases. The unique representation of Gamow offers the opportunity to represent the genetic code as a 3-moduli set RNS. This sets up further considerations of the genetic code (code of life) in the field of Residue Number System (RNS). AnRNS-Genetic code has the potential of opening new extraordinary vistas of potential progress in contemporary molecular biology. This work explores the feasibility of RNS as a number system of choice for generating the genetic code and further respond to the quest for a quaternary number system for the genetic code.","PeriodicalId":263947,"journal":{"name":"International Journal on Bioinformatics & Biosciences","volume":"53 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-06-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123270727","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This study determined the perception of the respondents on the use of Labster online virtual simulation (LVOS) in terms of benefits/opportunities, challenges/drawback, the suggestions of the respondents and the comparison between IPL and LVOS. Mix method (Descriptivequalitative and quantitative) using a questionnaire was used. Frequency, percentages, and T-test were used to analyze the data. Thirty-three BS Human Biology students for school year 2021-2022, were the respondents in this study. Findings revealed that laboratory classes during pandemic was continued using LVOS. Perceived opportunities of LVOS are; easy to learn, has almost real experimental illustrations, need no assistance, do not require laboratory base equipment, all experimental procedures can be learned, helpful tutorial mode in solving post experiment queries and, enhances analysis and reasoning. Perceived challenges are; absence of actual microscopy, preparation of slides from fresh specimen is lacking, require high version of computers and, skills in microscopy is not develop. In comparison LVOS is more advantageous in terms of, convenient to use, repetition of experiment enhanced mastery, better experimental procedures, more interesting, and time saving. IPL on the other hand promotes analysis of facts, more interaction between professor and students. It is suggested that LVOS should be a part of laboratory classes in life sciences.","PeriodicalId":263947,"journal":{"name":"International Journal on Bioinformatics & Biosciences","volume":"16 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-03-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115539183","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The study on medicinal plants and their traditional usage is currently popular around the world. Moreover, with the arising diseases and the need for more cost-effective medications, documentation of the claimed medicinal plants by local communities is vital because it will open a lot of opportunities for the discovery and improvement of new and affordable plant-based medicines. In the province of Surigao del Sur Philippines, the older generation are the ones who apply their traditional knowledge on the use of herbal plants. Thus, this study limits on the middle-aged residents in the village of San Antonio, Tandag City in Surigao del Sur Philippines on their use of traditional knowledge in using herbal plants. Forty-six respondents were chosen following the convenient sampling technique. Gathered data on demographic profile of the respondents, plant part used, methods used in the preparation of herbal plant, name of ailments was quantified using descriptive statistics (frequency, sum, and percentage). Likewise, calculation of used value was determined using percentage. Correlation between the age and gender to methods of plant parts used were done using Pearson Correlation. A total of 46 (7 males and 39 females) served as respondents in this study. Highest number of respondents belonged to ages 45 to 49. Almost one third of the respondents residing in the said barangay for 41-50 years. Meanwhile, most of the respondents were using medicinal plants for 1-10 years. It was also found that most of the respondents obtained their source of ethnomedicinal knowledge from their ancestors. Twenty-three medicinal plants from 15 families, the majority of which belonged to the Lamiaceae genus were used as herbal plants. Most of these plants are collected as herbs and shrubs. Leaves are commonly harvested for use and taken orally as decoctions. Viral diseases (cough and cold) were the most dominant ailments treated by the herbal plants. Oregano/Kalabo (Coleus aromaticus) had the highest use-value). It further shows that age is correlated with the changes to the methods of plant preparation while gender is not correlated. The study shows that despite increased urbanization, the village of San Antonio still has a range of plant species with medicinal importance. Thus, in the context of a wider local use as well as possible scientific and pharmaceutical applications, these herbal plants might be further examined for safety and efficacy.","PeriodicalId":263947,"journal":{"name":"International Journal on Bioinformatics & Biosciences","volume":"12 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-03-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133997676","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The genetic code maps the 20 amino acids to all 64 possible arrangements of the four (4)nitrogenous bases. Since its deciphering, various designs in varied fields have been proposed. This work presents a Residue Number System (RNS)-based genetic code using the concept of number tree. In conformity with Gamow’s postulation, (4^3= 4 × 4 × 4 = 64) we present a three moduli set RNS model of the genetic code. The design sorts the codes into their “family box” or “four-codon box”. The application of RNS in bioinformatics is not new - notably its application to Smith-Waterman Algorithm. RNS has been used to successfully generate the genetic code and this advances the cause of representing the genetic code in a quaternary number system.","PeriodicalId":263947,"journal":{"name":"International Journal on Bioinformatics & Biosciences","volume":"15 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-03-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116185834","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Most existing models for predicting kidney transplant infection are statistical, unintelligent, and straightforward. The foremost task of this paper is to analyze kidney transplantation data, introduce existing traditional machine learning and deep learning methods from non-temporal and temporal scenarios, respectively, and comprehensively evaluate the predictive power of the methods for kidney transplantation infection. Specifically, in the non-temporal scenario, we use Naïve Bayes, K-Nearest Neighbor, Support Vector Machines, and Random Forest models. In addition, in the temporal scenario, we propose an MTAN model based on a sliding window algorithm to exploit the hidden information of adjacent time series fully. Experimental results show that the kidney transplantation prediction models built by Naïve Bayes and Support Vector Machines have better stability than those constructed by K-Nearest Neighbor and Random Forest. The MTAN model with sliding windows can better mine the hidden temporal information.","PeriodicalId":263947,"journal":{"name":"International Journal on Bioinformatics & Biosciences","volume":"81 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-03-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"117106749","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Furthermore, single-label breast cancer classifications are deployed to solve the problem. However, it cannot convey more information about mammogram images. In the area where the shortage of datasets is there as in the medical image, data augmentation and transfer learning are the best solution. A Multi-Label Breast Cancer Screening is a deep learning model using a transfer learning model that gives information on finding, density, and pathology of patients' breast mammograms to the radiologists, aiming for life-saving and supporting the family. The existing model shows low accuracy on feature extraction and more layers with a very large number of nodes in a layer in the classification part. In this study, the best feature extractor for this particular work is investigated and identified as efficientnetb3, and ONN is used for the classification part. The proposed model outperforms the previous work in all evaluation metrics with a 13.25% f1_score, 53% hamming loss, 36.7% coverage error, and 12.5 an exact match.
