However, one form of impact from software change has yet to be explored by the research community: these are the impacts of changes to software on data. In particular, when the business rules enforced by a system change, it may be necessary to perform some cleanup or transformations on persistent data, in order to bring it into line with the new system functionality. Alternatively, the proposed new rule may itself have to be modified, if the data impacts are too costly to address. In this paper, we show how such impacts can arise, and propose an approach to assisting in their identification through user-driven exploration of hypothetical change-impact scenarios.","PeriodicalId":263644,"journal":{"name":"2006 International Conference on Software Engineering Advances (ICSEA'06)","volume":"339 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2006-10-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116551232","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It includes both the static and behavioral aspects of its system. This can serve as a pattern for a persistent collection of objects, or as a scheme for a database system, and as a set of communication diagrams at the same time. Different types of behavioral diagrams, such as the use case and sequence diagram, are applied to delineate dynamics of the class diagram. This paper describes a framework in which a UML sequence diagram for ensuring data correctness of data objects is deduced from the UML class diagram. That is the derived diagram can be used to check data structures, or data integrities, of objects in respect to persistent collections of objects, or to database systems, when these collections are updated.","PeriodicalId":263644,"journal":{"name":"2006 International Conference on Software Engineering Advances (ICSEA'06)","volume":"18 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2006-10-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127647178","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We illustrate the method on a software component of a telecommunications system that was developed by Ericsson. Beginning with incomplete informal descriptions, we analysed the requirements of the system and wrote a description that contains all pertinent information in one easily used reference document. The resulting documentation is more compact and complete than traditional software documentation and provides precise information that will be useful for testing and inspection.","PeriodicalId":263644,"journal":{"name":"2006 International Conference on Software Engineering Advances (ICSEA'06)","volume":"2015 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2006-10-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127685978","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Several reasons have been identified recently as contributing to this rather paradoxical situation. Most importantly: the socio-technical inappropriateness of a prescribed method to the company's actual ways of working, and the rigidity, i.e. inability of a prescribed method to be adapted to a particular problem. In this paper, we present a framework that deals with these issues. Its purpose is to help software development companies to reengineer their software development processes by establishing formalized and flexible methods based on the actual ways of working in that companies. The framework has been developed in cooperation with software development companies.","PeriodicalId":263644,"journal":{"name":"2006 International Conference on Software Engineering Advances (ICSEA'06)","volume":"104 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2006-10-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133210739","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This paper builds a domain ontology of computer, and proposes an approach to domain ontology-based software component retrieval. Different from the approach to keyword based retrieval, this approach can refine and extend the user's initial query by query reasoning and provide fuzzy retrieval based on component similarity and relatedness. The whole approach extends the software reusable library to the World Wide Web. In the retrieval process, a user query in natural language is translated into RDF representation formats in order to augment retrieval recall and precision by deploying the same semantic representation technologies on both the user query side and the component side. In this paper, we investigate two main effects influencing this diffusion pattern: the exposure of a firm in the network to its neighbours and the power of a firm within the network. To perform this analysis, we propose two models: a direct model that characterized the influence of immediate related ties, as well as an indirect model that characterized the influence of ties of ties. Network ties are here defined by interlock between board directorates. The statistical analysis of Canadian firm's data suggests that network ties, especially indirect exposure, influence the diffusion of ERP systems. The influence of direct and indirect exposure and firm power also appear to differ significantly from one ERP system to another.","PeriodicalId":263644,"journal":{"name":"2006 International Conference on Software Engineering Advances (ICSEA'06)","volume":"6 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2006-10-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128309674","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The e-school application is considered a fusion of the electronic business and mobile business contexts, containing three dynamic Webinterfaces and an SMS-interface. Implementation of this service requires changes in the school business process it supports. This paper presents a requirements engineering framework which aims at resolving the feedback loop between the application and the business process. The presented framework has been defined in order to help simultaneously develop an application which provides the service and ensures the necessary identification of school business process changes and their models. The framework also provides a mechanism for efficient service deployment and its future evolution without adverse effects on the underlying business process. Presented is a case study for an e-school notification service implemented within this framework.","PeriodicalId":263644,"journal":{"name":"2006 International Conference on Software Engineering Advances (ICSEA'06)","volume":"129 ","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2006-10-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132949283","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Reusable asset consumers, i.e. reusers, must become knowledgeable about the techniques used to implement variability, and the activities required to customize the variability points. Moreover reuse activities must be constrained to a specific sequence to avoid a lengthy error-prone reuse process and inconsistencies in the final application. Specifying reuse activities required to customize variability points using a programming language is a valuable contribution to the reuse process, given the way reuse is clearly exposed. Moreover reuse scripts described in such a language can be input to a reuse environment for automatic or semi-automatic assistance to the reuse process. In this work we discuss software reuse activities and illustrate how RDL (Reuse Description Language) can be used to facilitate variability point's customization.","PeriodicalId":263644,"journal":{"name":"2006 International Conference on Software Engineering Advances (ICSEA'06)","volume":"708 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2006-10-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114596000","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this paper, we presented an evaluation framework for Open Source Software maintenance. The framework was evaluated with five well known case studies. The results showed that our framework was suitable for evaluating scale of the project and activity, efficiency, traceability and quickness of the defect management and maintenance processes. The case studies showed that quality of the defect reports was low and therefore many of them were ignored as duplicate or invalid. In addition, most of the software changes were not connected to defects, which may express lack of management.","PeriodicalId":263644,"journal":{"name":"2006 International Conference on Software Engineering Advances (ICSEA'06)","volume":"2 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2006-10-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126682453","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
