O banquete [The banquet], work remained unfinished due to the author‘s death, but fundamental for his aesthetics ideas, was restricted to a posthumous edition in 1977. The text established then by Jorge Coli and Luiz Dantas could not count on the genetic criticism contributions, which enable to elucidate the creation phases and connect them with other writing documents of the author‘s creative process. In my research, a new text edition was proposed, comparing Mario de Andrade‘s manuscripts versions with the text presented in Jorge Coli‘s and Luiz Dantas‘s edition. A genetic dossier and an essay presenting the new edition followed the text established by me. This article corresponds to a rewriting of such essay. 1 Pesquisa de pós-doutorado, O banquete de Mário de Andrade: edição fidedigna e estudo genético (2012), realizadas com bolsa FAPESP e sob a orientação de Telê Ancona Lopez (IEB-USP). 2 Doutora em Letras, Literatura Brasileira, pela Faculdade de Filosofia, Letras e Ciências Humanas da Universidade de São Paulo (FFLCH-USP). His reporting and books on cutting-edge issues in the emerging gay liberation movement withstood strong push back on his work while establishing himself as an openly gay reporter in mainstream journalism. Shilts unapologetically approached his reporting as he had approached his earlier life – that information granted power and understanding and journalists played a key role in conveying that information. Important questions remain about whether Shilts helped or hindered the understanding of AIDS in the context of the gay community, with serious reservations raised about his use of the “Patient Zero” posit. He was praised, however, for advocacy for gay rights via Conduct Unbecoming.","PeriodicalId":263352,"journal":{"name":"The Journalist of Castro Street","volume":"24 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-05-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126204742","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Shilts’s growing health struggles come quickly as he is then diagnosed as having AIDS. Shilts views as problematic the focus on his HIV status rather than the release of his new book, “Conduct Unbecoming.” Shilts has to limit his book tour to media interviews due to his declining health. The veracity with which Shilts answered earlier questions about his HIV status is explored; along with the ethics of what level of personal disclosure, gay men (or reporters) owe others. “Conduct Unbecoming” becomes a central part of the gay military ban discussion as movie rights to “And the Band Played On” are sold to HBO.","PeriodicalId":263352,"journal":{"name":"The Journalist of Castro Street","volume":"11 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-05-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128060514","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
