The three KNC breeds were characterized using 4 MS markers (INRA30, TGLA325, UMN0905 and UMN0929), and allelic richness, allele frequency, heterozygosity and polymorphism information content (PIC) per locus were calculated. The mean observed heterozygosity and PIC values for Chikso, Jeju Black and Hanwoo were 0.541 and 0.542, 0.406 and 0.377, and 0.61 and 0.6, respectively. The heterozygosity and the PIC values of Jeju Black breed were smaller than those of Chikso and Hanwoo. Thus, these genetic parameters were used for the characterization of the breeds and for determining their genetic relationships. The findings of this study might be useful for the conservation, management, and utilization of KNC breeds as genetic resources.","PeriodicalId":263111,"journal":{"name":"The Journal of the Korean Society of International Agriculture","volume":"6 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-12-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129880323","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

And the resistant Echinochloa oryzoides to ACCase and ALS inhibitors has been confirmed in rice fields of the southern province, Korea in 2009. In the beginning, the M. vaginalis, S. juncoides and C. difformis of these SU-resistant weeds were rapidly and individually spreaded in different fields, however, these resistant weeds have been occurring simultaneously in the same filed recently. The resistant biotype by weed species demonstrated about 10- to 1,000-fold resistance, based on GR50 values of the SU herbicides tested. And the resistant biotype of E. oryzoides to cyhalofop-butyl, pyriminobac-methyl, and penoxsulam was about 14, 8, and 11 times more resistant than the susceptible biotype base on GR50 values. The products and applied area of SU-included herbicides have been increased rapidly, and have accounted for about 69% and 96% in Korea, respectively. In Korea, the main cause of SU-resistant weed is extensive use of these herbicides. The top ten herbicides by applied area were composed of all SU-included herbicides by 2003. The concentrated and successive treatment of ACCase and ALS inhibitors for control of barnyardgrass in rice led up to the resistance of E. oryzoides. Also, SU-herbicides like pyrazosulfuron-ethyl and imazosulfuron which effective to barnyardgrass can be bound up with the resistance of E. oryzoides. The ALS activity isolated from the resistant biotype of M. korsakowii to SU-herbicides tested was less sensitive than that of susceptible biotype. The concentration of herbicide required for 50% inhibition of ALS activity (I50) of the SU-resistant M. korsakowii was 14- to 76-fold higher as compared to the susceptible biotype. No differences were observed in the rates of ( 14 C)bensulfuron uptake and translocation. Acetolactate synthase (ALS) genes from M. vaginalis resistant and susceptible biotypes against SU-herbicides revealed a single amino acid substitution of proline (CCT), at 197th position based on the M. korsakowii ALS sequence numbering, to serin (TCT) in conserved domain A of the gene. Carfentrazone-ethyl and pyrazolate were used mainly to control SU-resistant M. vaginalis by 2006 in Korea. However, the alternative herbicides such as benzobicyclone, to be possible to control simultaneously the several resistant weeds, have been developing and using broadly, because the several resistant weeds have been occurring simultaneously in the same fieled. The top ten herbicides by applied area in Korea have been occupied by products of 3-way mixture type including herbicides with alternative mode of action for the herbicide resistant weeds. This study was conducted to analysis the carotenoids contents of pumpkin germplasm at the National Agrobiodiversity Center of RDA in 2014. Eighty accessions were analyzed carotenoids contents from pumpkin plup based on origin of germplasm. A total of nine carotenoids (three xanthophylls and six carotenes) were identified from pumpkin germplasm using HPLC equipped with photodiode array detector (450 nm). Especially, lutein and β-caroteins were major pigment of carotenoids. The mean of total carotenoid contents was in the order of Korean cultivar (213.69 mg/100 g dry weight), Mexico landrace (139.07), India landrace (69.13), Korea landrace (27.51). Of the 80 germplasm, K188417 showed the highest carotenoid contents. Analysis of pumpkin germplasm for carotenoids surely contributes to develop useful functional food ingredients.","PeriodicalId":263111,"journal":{"name":"The Journal of the Korean Society of International Agriculture","volume":"190 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-11-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132678461","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Amylose contents of commercial pearled barley products were in the range of 4.46 ~ 30.68%, with a mean value of 16.33 and those of most commercial waxy pearled barleys were in the range of 5 ~ 10%. The β-glucan content of commercial pearled barley products ranged from 2.49 to 6.79% with a mean value of 4.57. Commercial pearled barley products were grouped into normal barley (amylose content > 20%) and waxy(or low amylose) barley (5 ~ 10% amylose content). Waxy pearled barley had higher (approximately 2%) total β-glucan content than normal pearled barley. Waxy pearled barley products appeared to have lower gelatinization temperature and pasting viscosity determined by Rapid Visco-Analyzer (RVA) testing. Compared to normal pearled barley, waxy barley had higher water absorption and expansibility during cooking but lower soluble solids and hardness, showing better cooking quality.","PeriodicalId":263111,"journal":{"name":"The Journal of the Korean Society of International Agriculture","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-11-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124344914","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
