Only two types of small fruits are economically produced in Taiwan: the grape and strawberry. Four other types (the mulberry Morus alba L., the bayberry Myrica rubra Sieb. et Zucc., the Indian gooseberry Phyllanthus emblica L., and the kiwifruit or Chinese gooseberry Actinidia chinensis Planch. var. setosa and A. deliciosa Ferg.) have production areas of less than 100 ha. Taiwan has been developing production techniques for fruits such as the blueberry. In 2017, Taiwan had production areas of 2,828.6 ha for grapes, 500.33 ha for strawberries, 67.56 ha for mulberries, 31.17 ha for bayberries, and 14.19 ha for kiwifruit. The development of new small fruit crops demands new culture methods and strategies. It is important to breed or select new small fruits from the native germplasm when introducing new foreign varieties. Some special conditions, such as breeding the blueberry plant with a short chilling requirement, are needed. Further, new culture systems such as year-round production for grape, mulberry, and strawberry have been tried. Although Taiwan has cultivated grapes for wine production for over 40 years, new grape cultivar breeding programs for wine production have been introduced.","PeriodicalId":263111,"journal":{"name":"The Journal of the Korean Society of International Agriculture","volume":"51 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-03-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115951362","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Nevertheless, in Africa (Ethiopia), vegetable grafting is rarely existent. Vegetables are among the major agricultural crops in Ethiopia, and pepper is one of the most important vegetable crops cultivated in the country. However, both biotic and abiotic factors limit pepper productivity, keeping it very low. Hence, this study investigates grafting methods and the impact of grafting on growth and quality of two Ethiopian pepper varieties (Mareko Fana and Melka Zala) grafted on two commercial Korean rootstocks varieties. Both Ethiopian varieties showed 100% grafting union success with the Korean varieties when wedge grafting method was used, while the splice grafting method resulted in lesser success. Furthermore, grafting the Mareko Fana variety on PR3 resulted in statistically significant higher yield compared to the control, while the yield of the Melka Zala was reduced when grafted on PR3. On the other hand, fruit diameter and fruit length of the Ethiopian pepper was not significantly affected by the rootstocks. Finally, grafting was found to increase the TSS content of the Mareko Fana variety. This study documented the standardization of grafting methods and grafting effects on growth and quality traits of pepper under greenhouse conditions. The results of this study will be indispensable for the beginning of the grafting technology in Ethiopia.","PeriodicalId":263111,"journal":{"name":"The Journal of the Korean Society of International Agriculture","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-03-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131917803","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It has received special attention globally as one of the most advanced business to be explored and develop. Muslim minority countries like South Korea have taken initiative to see the opportunity and penetrate the halal food industry to boost the local economy. However, there is still a knowledge gap behind the importance of studying the halal industry and the limited availability of academic resources. This research will participate to being a reference of halal study in the future for considering the consumers purchase behavior of halal food and being an eye-opener for the government to keep pursuing the halal direction because the halal market size is always getting expand. Due to that, this research aims to examine the factors that can influence purchase intention of halal food among the Muslim consumers in South Korea. The data were collected from 477 respondents. The purposive sampling method is used to gather respondents from the administrative districts from the South Korea. The hypothesis results of this study revealed that three variables which are halal certification, religious beliefs and halal brand satisfaction that were significantly related to Halal purchase intention among Muslim consumers. The findings of this research may be useful and helpful for manufacturers to understand Halal purchase intention among Muslim consumers as well as beneficial for the consumers to be aware of Halal implication in their daily live.","PeriodicalId":263111,"journal":{"name":"The Journal of the Korean Society of International Agriculture","volume":"6 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-12-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127141537","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
