UAV base stations (UAV-BSs) are the indispensable component of such networks. Specifically, three-dimensional (3-D) placement of UAV- BS is pivotal in serving the ground users with the desired quality-of-service (QoS). Moreover, in a scenario where users are mobile, UAV-BS placements need to be updated while considering the user mobility. However, an equally important challenge is to optimize the time separation of the placement updates or update interval. Hence, in this work, we propose a framework for joint optimization of UAV-BS placement and the update interval while accounting for the user and UAV mobility parameters. Furthermore, we determine the analytical expressions for the coverage probability of users. We also evaluate the network service time and the number of users covered for the considered network.","PeriodicalId":262379,"journal":{"name":"2021 IEEE Wireless Communications and Networking Conference Workshops (WCNCW)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-03-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121206895","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The transmission from a multi-antenna base station (BS) to the single antenna user equipment (UE) is realized via the multiple propagation paths among which one path is contributed by the RIS reflection. In addition, a practical restriction is considered where only a limited number of discrete phase shifts per RIS element can be provided corresponding to the limited control information from RIS controller. An optimizing problem aiming to maximize the achiveable bit rate is formulated jointly considering the continuous digital beamforming at BS and the discrete phase analog beamforming at RIS. With the help of the spatial propagation model between BS/UE and RIS, the approximate solutions are derived to solve this problem for the case of single subcarrier and multiple subcarriers. The simulation results valify the effectiveness of the proposed approximate solutions for the multiple subcarriers scheduling conditions, and provide a considerable performance gain of RIS assisted MISO system compared to that of the traditional wireless system without RIS assistance.","PeriodicalId":262379,"journal":{"name":"2021 IEEE Wireless Communications and Networking Conference Workshops (WCNCW)","volume":"30 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-03-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127658269","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Therefore, we develop a computation offloading framework blending NOMA and content caching to further improve the computational performance. We formulate the joint computation offloading decision, resources allocation, and caching decision as an utility maximization problem under the constrains of bandwidth, computing and storage resources. We convert the original non-convex problem to a convex problem via variable relaxation and substitution. We then decompose it and introduce an alternative direction method of multipliers based distributed algorithm to solve it. Finally, simulation results show that our algorithm can quickly converge and reach up to 95% of the optimal value. The LSTM network can effectively predict the value of the signal at a particular moment. Specifically, a myriad filter is used to suppress the alpha-stable noise in the receiving signal to guarantee that the suppressed noise follows the Gaussian distribution approximately. For the LSTM network training, a priori noise-free jamming signal is used to ensure that the network has a specific memory of the jamming signal. Then, we utilize the trained LSTM network for satellite communication jamming detection. Furthermore, the mean square error between the predicted value and the actual value is examined as the test statistic. It is observed that the mean square error with the only input of noise is larger than that with the inputs of both signal and noise. In addition, a threshold is obtained by recording the noise-only signal into the network multiple times. Consequently, the detection of jamming signals is achieved based on the proposed model. Simulation results show that the detection rate of the satellite communication jamming can reach 98% when the jamming-to-noise ratio is 7dB.","PeriodicalId":262379,"journal":{"name":"2021 IEEE Wireless Communications and Networking Conference Workshops (WCNCW)","volume":"18 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-03-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133233426","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Especially, in the indoor positioning system using Bluetooth fingerprints, multiple crowdworkers are required to collect the information of Bluetooth beacons at the reference points and the corresponding received signal strength indicators (RSSI). Due to the unknown proper and bias of each crowdworker, it is challenging to appropriately estimate the reliability of each worker/source and truthfully aggregate data. Moreover, the collected data possesses two properties: they follow long-tail, where most of the data is gathered by a few sources, i.e., abundant crowdworkers only provide small amount; they have time-sequential feature: the truth about the crowdsensing tasks smoothly evolve with time. In response to the above problem and data features, this paper proposes an accurate data aggregation mechanism incorporating sequential long-tail characteristics, DAST. Specifically, we infer each source's credibility based on the estimated confidence interval using the amount of data historically provided by the source. Meanwhile, in order to capture the sequential characteristics of the data, the accumulated data in previous period is used as a virtual source to obtain the new aggregated value for the current period. Thorough simulations using artificial data and real data demonstrate that the performance of DAST is superior to the existed schemes including Confidence-Aware Truth Discovery (CATD), Precision-Recall (PrecRec) and Dynamic Truth Discovery (DynaTD) in terms of the mean absolute error (MAE) and the root mean square error (RMSE).","PeriodicalId":262379,"journal":{"name":"2021 IEEE Wireless Communications and Networking Conference Workshops (WCNCW)","volume":"39 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-03-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134433303","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We first illustrate how to map the step-decision decoding to a Markov decision process. Then, we choose the signal reliability to formulate the reward strategy, and the path metrics are taken as the Q-values of the state-action pairs. Finally, an adaptive Q-table approach is proposed for data-driven learning of optimal decision strategies. Compared with conventional Q-learning and deep Q-learning networks, the adaptive Q-table results in low computational and storage complexity. This paper studies the problem of online content caching and elimination without the in-advance knowledge of content popularity in a collaborative edge caching network, which consists of a set of edge nodes equipped with base stations and storage units. We aim to minimize the content providers’ cost while ensuring the quality of service (QoS) in the long run under the uncertainties of requested content. To this end, we formulate the problem of minimizing the system cost consisting of cache cost, migration cost and QoS penalty cost. In order to address this problem, we propose an algorithm for Collaborative Edge Caching based on the Thompson Sampling (CEC-TS) technique to update the caching decisions via adaptive learning of the popularity of requested contents. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed CEC-TS algorithm achieves lower content providers’ and QoS penalty cost against baseline schemes, i.e., the cloud-only and the first-in first-out (FIFO), in the long run.","PeriodicalId":262379,"journal":{"name":"2021 IEEE Wireless Communications and Networking Conference Workshops (WCNCW)","volume":"73 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-03-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116298680","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Most such IoT devices comparatively employ short-range radio access technologies such as Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) to transfer sensor data. When a WSN is situated in a remote region such that neither regular human monitoring is plausible nor Internet coverage is readily available, it requires an alternative method to gather data from sensor nodes. Hence, in this research, an attempt was made to improve the data collection process and monitor the parametric performance of a low power IoT WSN aided by an Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV). The impact of physical parameters related to different sensor node arrangements was investigated to effectively utilize the total flying time of the drone. Subsequently, adjustments were proposed for improvements by referring to previous literature. The Hamiltonian path defined in Graph Theory was applied to reduce the traverse distance of the drone further by tracing the sensor nodes within the grid area systematically. A prototype was implemented using commercially available devices to demonstrate the feasibility and the functionality of the proposed solution.
