Digital audio broadcasting (DAB) is a media standard with extended multimedia capabilities, offering novel services to users world-wide. Each digital broadcasting standard though, cannot be separately viewed from the development of Internet radio broadcasting. We introduce a multi-agent based system architecture, specially designed to provide and support advanced interactive services between users and digital media broadcasting systems, such as DAB and Internet radio broadcasting.","PeriodicalId":261724,"journal":{"name":"2001 IEEE Pacific Rim Conference on Communications, Computers and Signal Processing (IEEE Cat. First, after present communication services are classified and development direction in the future is reviewed, the current status of communication cabling facilities in the premises considering the service development trend is analyzed in the domestic and oversea areas. Especially domestic state is compared with advanced countries' standards, and modernisation methods for the communication cabling facilities in the domestic premises are presented.","PeriodicalId":261724,"journal":{"name":"2001 IEEE Pacific Rim Conference on Communications, Computers and Signal Processing (IEEE Cat. The proposed interworking module consists of 8 low speed application specific units (LASU), 3 high speed application specific units (HASU) and a interworking control processor (IWP). The LASU and the HASU are application specific and the IWP is application independent. From the interworking point of view, application specific means non-ATM function such as DS1/E1/DS3 frame relay service and circuit emulation service and application independent means common ATM function. The inter processor communication function is to transfer call control messages, OAM messages, TDM channel establishment messages between the main processor and interworking processor.","PeriodicalId":261724,"journal":{"name":"2001 IEEE Pacific Rim Conference on Communications, Computers and Signal Processing (IEEE Cat. The document is segmented into strings of letters separated by a blank, then each string is identified using characters features and their writing positions. This method achieves 100% accuracy if the characters have clear head feature. But if this feature is not used 90% of the strings still can be identified. This identification provides more information about the character set so that OCR can recognize faster with better accuracy.","PeriodicalId":261724,"journal":{"name":"2001 IEEE Pacific Rim Conference on Communications, Computers and Signal Processing (IEEE Cat. Our method is based on evaluating the compatibility of relative relations among extracted image contour segments between the input and the registered images using relaxation matching. The overall compatibility, after finding a best matching configuration between contour segments of the input and each registered image, provides the basis for a distance metric used in similarity ranking. Experiments were carried out on 300 randomly selected trademark images obtained from the Japan Patent Office's Website for performance evaluation. The applicability of our method, however, is not limited to trademark retrieval but can be extended to other applications having the need for image similarity matching.","PeriodicalId":261724,"journal":{"name":"2001 IEEE Pacific Rim Conference on Communications, Computers and Signal Processing (IEEE Cat.
