The system of innovation activity factors is determined at the first stage. The second stage identifies the factors that have a negative impact on innovation activity. At the third stage, the data of the innovative innovation survey is completed by additional information to obtain indirect estimates of missing factors. To determine the relative scope and magnitude of the risk factors, their ranking takes place at the fourth stage. In addition, the mapping of risks and risk factors is the subject of the fifth stage. This stage leads to the construction of relevant problem spaces for innovation management and regulation. The map obtained provides opportunities for offering policy measures (at both state and enterprise levels) to mitigate, and compensate for, risks of innovation activity. The Russian enterprises' statistics is used to construct an example of the map.","PeriodicalId":260303,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Innovation and Regional Development","volume":"42 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-07-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127668495","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The paper presents the possibility of using the multicriteria analysis as a tool for support of decision making. It was shown that the universality of this method allows using it at every stage of the innovation process, from creating a budget for the innovation process to the decisions made at the level of single tasks in the process. The idea of multicriteria analysis and its advantages were presented. Using the wide range of qualitative and quantitative criteria, and including the experts to the evaluation process is very important for innovation process because of uncertainty of information in the moments of decision-making.","PeriodicalId":260303,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Innovation and Regional Development","volume":"37 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-07-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115280993","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

So, in recent years, more researchers started being interested in the analysis of entrepreneurship across regions. Associated with entrepreneurship comes the concept of innovation. Innovation allows the creation of new firms and/or ensures the survival of the existing ones, and in both cases, generates growth. Applying the statistical technique of cluster analysis to a country dataset gathered by the Global Entrepreneurship Monitor (GEM) this paper groups countries into four clusters regarding their entrepreneurial activity and the aspirations of national entrepreneurs concerning innovation, business growth and international orientation of their activities. This is particularly important not only because the achievement of a relevant national entrepreneurship rate depends on the social and economic business environment but also because it is not known if there are particular regions where the entrepreneurial activity is characterised by special patterns of entrepreneurship aspirations.","PeriodicalId":260303,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Innovation and Regional Development","volume":"34 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-07-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123642886","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The Universal NGO examined has a unique approach to sustainability wherein partnerships with local NGOs are formed to implement programmatic activities addressing unmet needs of a specific population. Financial and technical support are provided to assist them in creating and developing what the Universal NGO calls its 'three pillars' of sustainability: financial, institutional, and programmatic capacity. This foundation is intended to enable long-term sustainable and scalable impact once the Universal NGO has exited the partnership, confident that its social return on investment and impact will continue and grow over time. Three case studies and analysis of the NGO partnerships are presented. In every case, the Universal NGO's model of multi-year commitment, focus on sustainability, and explicit exit strategy contributed to an organisation that sustained or increased its impact over time.","PeriodicalId":260303,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Innovation and Regional Development","volume":"28 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-03-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124140487","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The goal of the study is to recognise formalisation practices of FEI activity in the studied environment by best practice benchmarking approach. Research data was collected from ten supply chains with the help of theme interviews and workshops. A formalisation framework was utilised to analyse and structure research data. The recognised formalisation practices were either very new or only in the idea/planning stage in the studied supply chains, as a result there was little empirical data available of their practical influences. Although these limitations, the research recognised numerous formalisation practices in different sub-sectors that could support FEI management and collaboration in the future, which can serve as potential future operations models in the studied supply chains.","PeriodicalId":260303,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Innovation and Regional Development","volume":"99 2 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-03-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123518307","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, the process of globalisation manifested among others by the rise of BRIC countries on the one hand and increasing environmental concerns on the other have combined to impose what may be termed as transformative pressure. This pressure is exacerbated by the fact that many pulp and paper plants are located in peripheral regions which find themselves in the midst of a development discourse on the necessity of creating mechanisms to promote regional innovation systems. The aim of this paper is to discuss and illustrate how local institutions enabled the transformation of a pulp plant in a peripheral region in Sweden into a biorefinery. The study suggests that agents from industry and local government were important and that their actions took place in an institutional framework containing key processes of change - knowledge formation, market formation, aspects of local legitimation leading to positive externalities.","PeriodicalId":260303,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Innovation and Regional Development","volume":"71 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-03-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116735057","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Social entrepreneurship involves individuals and groups that create independent organisations in mobilising ideas and resources for addressing social needs. A focus on strategy in this context can give a much needed long-term perspective to social enterprises. In this respect, a framework is produced regarding aspects of mission, decision making, profit distribution, effectiveness of service delivery and benefits for the local community. Methodology-wise the paper is based upon work that can be identified geographically in Dorset, South West of England. It is based upon qualitative research that includes semi-structured interviewing, collection of secondary data and observations of local social enterprises. Development of a strategic planning leading to a suitable business plan is what this paper suggests for social enterprises to assign themselves to with regards to enhancing their strategic organisational capability.","PeriodicalId":260303,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Innovation and Regional Development","volume":"31 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-03-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116950133","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The analysis relies on the theoretical and empirical arguments of the importance of innovation in growth and on its description and measurement through patent data, which have been considered and accepted to be good and reliable innovation indicators for this purpose. This paper examines the Greek case, first presenting all sustainable-new and emerging-technological fields, second analysing both their importance and their technological content and third linking to industrial sectors in order to have a first indication of their economic direction. This paper also presents the position of Greece at the international context in the above fields, highlighting fields of better and worse performance, thus providing a first kind of empirical evidence on issues that could be integrated in a wider discussion on the Greek innovation policy.","PeriodicalId":260303,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Innovation and Regional Development","volume":"31 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-03-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122586818","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This paper aims to describe a regional innovation initiative in institutionalist legitimacy terms, show how this leads to a diagnosis of the situation and show how this diagnosis opens for designing better targeted interventions. Taking such a legitimacy perspective opens new trajectories for research. The present study also suggests that applying a legitimacy perspective opens up for normative issues regarding wider participation in regional innovation programmes. This paper will be of particular value for researchers and practitioners working in the field of regional innovation and network development, but also for those with a special interest in institutional theory.","PeriodicalId":260303,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Innovation and Regional Development","volume":" 22","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-09-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114053225","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
