In this work, the main focus is on the possibility of embedding radio frequency identification (RFID) technology in carbon-fibre reinforced polymer (CFRP) components to evaluate the readability of commercial Ultra High Frequency system by varying their covers, which is also partly in CFRPS. The samples produced and the tags used derived on previous studies, in which configurations with the tag housed inside were established and studied. Two RFID tags were studied that could withstand the harsh environmental conditions, i.e., high temperatures and pressure. This work was not carried out in an ideal environment to assess the theoretical capabilities of RFID sensors, but to understand and evaluate the readability limits of commercial RFID tags embedded in CFRPs. Therefore, an experimental campaign was undertaken to assess the downstream readability of the curing process of tags in laminated mock-ups. It was observed that the curing process had minimal effect on the readability of the tags. Free-space tests were carried out in proximity of metallic elements to determine the change of the reading distance obtained during the test, keeping the fixed antenna used constant.","PeriodicalId":259055,"journal":{"name":"Int. On the basis of the anti-collision algorithm of the binary tree and the quadtree query tree, the methods of locking the collision bit and predicting the child node are used, a new lock-bit hybrid querytree (novel lock-bit hybrid query tree, NLHQT) algorithm is proposed. In the algorithm, the collision bit information is extracted through the lock instruction, and the extracted collision bit information is predicted. While reducing the collision time slot, the reader generates a new query prefix through prediction, thereby avoiding the generation of idle child nodes. Compared with the improved hybrid query tree (IHQT) anti-collision algorithm and the regression lock adaptive multi-tree search (RLAMS), the algorithm in this paper is more effective in reducing the total number of time slots and communication complexity, and the efficiency of identifying tags can be effectively improved.","PeriodicalId":259055,"journal":{"name":"Int. However, the data generated by RFID installations during operation offers more potential for further analyses in order to benefit even more from the technology. Therefore, in this paper the data will be used to generate a digital twin of the RFID-enabled material flow (DTRMF) in real-time and to program various big data analyses. The architecture of the DTRMF has to fulfill various qualitative requirements. Since the big data and digital twin architectures available in literature do not fulfill optimally all of these requirements or are not described in enough detail to be applicable, this paper presents a new digital twin architecture for the RFID-enabled material flow. This architecture consists of the data ingestion layer, data processing and analyses layer, data storage layer, visualization layer and the optional semantic layer. In addition, suitable technologies for the implementation of the architecture are described and the feasibility of the architecture was demonstrated and verified by means of a case study.","PeriodicalId":259055,"journal":{"name":"Int. With the recent technological advancement, more and more devices like smartphones, smart locks, smart TVs, smart meters, etc., are becoming integral parts of human lives. On the one hand, these devices have added comfort and efficiency, while on the other hand, the negative health impacts of persistent exposure to emf radiation from these devices can’t be denied. This paper used smart meter as an example of a smart device to explore potential adverse health effects of emf radiation by applying Soft System Methodology (SSM). Semi-structured interviews and workshops were conducted to gain insight into the research domain. The objective hierarchy has been proposed as a result of applying SSM. Some key concerns that must be considered for addressing consumers’ health concerns were identified as the outcome of the conducted SSM workshops. The proposed hierarchy suggests creating a risk-management team of knowledgeable individuals and provides a roadmap for executives, government officials and policymakers.","PeriodicalId":259055,"journal":{"name":"Int. Thanks to non-contact reading, no need for human intervention and real time information update, that technology increases the speed of identification, material, and information flow and plays an important role in various logistics activities. This is why, since its introduction, radio frequency identification has always been indicated by researchers and practitioners as the technology that will have changed the way of managing logistics and supply chain processes. By means of a systematic literature review on 95 selected papers, this study proposes an examination of radio frequency identification applications targeting the logistics field, with the purpose of categorizing the available knowledge, examining the state-of-the-art solutions and highlighting the key benefits of the technology within the logistics sector. As a result, the trends of the topics treated in studies targeting radio frequency identification in logistics are delineated. Suggestions for future research directions are provided.","PeriodicalId":259055,"journal":{"name":"Int. J. RF Technol. Res. One of the biggest challenges with RFID installations is the bad performance, especially the low read rates. One reason for the low read rates are sources of interference. In order to reduce sources of interference in RFID installations, these and possible solutions must first be known. Therefore, in this paper a literature review was conducted to identify the known sources of interference and proposed solutions for RFID installations in the automotive sector. These were divided into the four categories RFID components, electrical signals, physical environment and environmental influences. In addition, this paper presents a procedure for reducing sources of interference in RFID installations. With this information, a company can build up know-how and support the reduction of interference sources in RFID installations, which in turn increases the read rate.","PeriodicalId":259055,"journal":{"name":"Int. We also propose alternative algorithms other than logistic regression analysed in the previous work –i.e., a heuristic algorithm, a Neural Network (NN), a Convolutional Neural Network (CNN), and the introduction of reference tags to enhance these approaches. The results show that the logistic regression and the CNN are the most accurate models. The choice between them might depend on the application context: the first is less reliable but much simpler to implement, while the second is a more complex and complete machine learning model. Concerning the environmental conditions, the density and disposition of RFID tags appear the aspects with the greatest impact.","PeriodicalId":259055,"journal":{"name":"Int. J. RF Technol. Res. Automated identification (auto-ID) technologies that include barcode and RFID provide class- or item-level visibility to facilitate effective and efficient decisions in their respective environments. A warehouse environment benefits from auto-ID through improved cost savings, operational efficiency, and opportunities for higher revenues. It is therefore not surprising that both researchers and practitioners have considered the use of auto-ID in warehouses. We take stock of related literature to determine the state-of-the-art on auto-ID use in warehouse management, with specific focus on RFID, and identify potential directions of further research. Based on our review, we develop a conceptual framework that incorporates the primary factors that guide the decision to adopt auto-ID in warehouse management.","PeriodicalId":259055,"journal":{"name":"Int. The positioning accuracy is restricted by the variability and complexity of the indoor environment. Radio Frequency Identification (RFID), as a key technology of the Internet of Things, has became the main research direction in the field of indoor positioning because of its non-contact, non-line-of-sight and strong anti-interference abilities. This paper proposes the deep leaning approach for RFID based indoor localization. Since the measured Received Signal Strength Indicator (RSSI) can be influenced by many indoor environment factors, Kalman filter is applied to erase the fluctuation. Furthermore, linear interpolation is adopted to increase the density of the reference tags. In order to improve the processing ability of the fingerprint database, deep neural network is adopted together with the fingerprinting method to optimize the non-linear mapping between fingerprints and indoor coordinates. The experimental results show that the proposed method achieves high accuracy with a mean estimation error of 0.347 m.","PeriodicalId":259055,"journal":{"name":"Int. J. RF Technol. Res. An important and relatively recent RFID breakthrough has been that of moving the level of tagging from pallet- or case-level, to item-level. This development has opened up a new set of use cases and benefits, especially in retail. One of these new use cases is the estimation of items’ location by positioning and tracking the tags attached to them. This problem is often seen as a classification problem, especially when tags that are read at the retail store must be located either in the sales floor or in the backroom area. The typical approach to ease this classification consists of physically shielding the interested areas via hardware installations, although this solution is expensive and lacks flexibility. In this paper, we present a different solution, namely a software-based shielding approach, to address the classification problem. Our solution makes use of item-level RFID tags and is based on the well-known logistic regression. Whenever a reading session is performed by means of a handheld reader, the classification model estimates in real-time (i.e. within a few seconds) which tagged items are in the same area of the reader and which are not, with no need of any shielding hardware installation. According to the validation preliminary tests presented in this paper, in which we simulated a fashion retail store, the proposed approach has an overall average accuracy of 95.5%.","PeriodicalId":259055,"journal":{"name":"Int.
