The study aims to understand the human resource management and cross-cultural practices and challenges faced by Chinese companies across the border. This cross-sectional and exploratory study used semi-structured interviews and focus groups for the data collection. The respondents were Chinese managers from Chinese companies and Chinese cultural centres working in Pakistan. This study used thematic analysis with triangulation of sources and methods. This study found culture as a key theme affecting all the emerging human resource management themes. Chinese companies working in Pakistan use informal social networks in addition to traditional applicant recruitment methods. Cultural training is common along with technical training in particularly state-owned Chinese enterprises. Although in many Chinese companies, the parent country nationals fill top positions, local employees could be seen working in the top tier management of some Chinese companies. The Chinese companies’ management practices have not been paid much attention to in this region. This study enables us to develop deep insights into Chinese companies’ human resource management practices and challenges. This research also contributes to the literature on international human resource management and cross-cultural management.","PeriodicalId":255789,"journal":{"name":"Pakistan Business Review","volume":"230 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-05-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134058986","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It also looks at the moderating role of the use of social media. The data was collected from undergraduate university students residing in the Punjab province of Pakistan. The structural modelling technique was used to analyze the data. The study results show that materialistic young adults are more involved in impulsive and obsessive buying than others. The results also confirm the findings of previousresearches conducted in other cultures. It also confirms that materialism mediates the relationship between sociological factors (celebrity endorsement and peer influence) and compulsive buying behaviour (impulsive and obsessive buying behaviour). Moreover, it proves the moderating role of social media use in determining and affecting these relationships. This research provides guidelines for the researchers, policymakers, and managers.","PeriodicalId":255789,"journal":{"name":"Pakistan Business Review","volume":"5 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-05-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126102436","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Many studies have been conducted to review the application of human resource management (HRM) and other aspects that have manifested and been determined to be true in a variety of scenarios. HRM practices have been found to be essential and effective in the delivery of services and socioeconomic growth. In well-established organizations, up-to-the-level performance and competition are impossible without the required skilled, well-motivated people working in a good human resource management program development. In both small and big educational institutions, a framework that relies on human resources management strategies for program implementation is required in an educational setting the most essential practices of human resource management are selection and recruitment, appraisal of performance, training and development, and reward and rumination systems. It is very pertinent for an organization to comprehend methods of attracting, retaining boast the Morales of those in the marketplace who are skilled and competent. Organizations by the virtue of implementation of soft dimensions of HRM become able to gain a competitive edge. From the available literature it very evident that through the procedures and practices of human resource management not only the performances of an organization are enhanced but it becomes able to get what is called “competitive advantage”.","PeriodicalId":255789,"journal":{"name":"Pakistan Business Review","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-02-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130612634","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Yet in contradiction to this, many collective goods have managed to be effectively provided by large bodies of people working together. This begs the question: how prevalent is free-ridership in reality and how well does theory translate into practice? We have tested this theory by subjecting participants to experimental conditions where the impacts of social pressure have been observed via the formation of groups of four. Results have shown that, though individuals are likely to contribute in our treatment condition; even in the absence of social pressure, individuals will willingly donate around 40% of their endowments. This has allowed us to conclude that, in our experiment, the free rider hypothesis is not supported.","PeriodicalId":255789,"journal":{"name":"Pakistan Business Review","volume":"120 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-02-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126800217","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The rationale for such an investigation is that while enrollments in Pakistani higher education are increasing, passing out numbers are very low; this problem necessitates an investigation of student cognitive engagement as well as other factors. Because the Construct of Engagement arose in response to the issue of lower student turn out. The Cognitive Engagement Subscales of Attitudes towards Mathematics (ATM) were used to collect data for this study, and the convenience sampling technique was used. The sample included 528 university students from ten different universities in Karachi. The Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) approach was used for data analysis. The results revealed 21 items that were compatible with the Pakistani context, with Shallow Strategy Use (SSU) being the most endorsed subscale with a mean of 3.7. This study provided a validated instrument for future studies to determine cognitive engagement levels. Future research should look into other disciplines and the relationship with other variables.","PeriodicalId":255789,"journal":{"name":"Pakistan Business Review","volume":"35 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-02-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133173673","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this study, we have discussed that the adoption of Industry 4.0 (I4A) parameters can improve production outcomes and reduce operational wastes. In order to comprehend whether Industry 4.0 parameters are feasible to accomplish, organizations should get valuable guidelines by differentiating the production outcomes vide pre and post-technological implementation. It has been revealed that organizations with industry 4.0 lean and sustainable practices have achieved more substantial upshots in social, economic, operational, and environmental performance i.e. overall Organizational Performance (OP). Likewise, prevailing global trends have indicated that innovative performance and adoption of Industry 4.0 technologies have become ‘unavoidable’ in the business arena, thus providing the sign to companies to start embracing developments related to process optimization in order to sustain or even reinforce the competitiveness. Conclusively, organizations should not only emphasize process automation but also introduce smart and credible systems for better outcomes","PeriodicalId":255789,"journal":{"name":"Pakistan Business Review","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-02-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129459301","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Therefore, within academia, a shift from conventional finance to behavioral finance can be noticed and the most eminent topic of interest is the exploration of herding behavior. Inspired by the ongoing altercation on the magnitude and presence of herding in the stock markets, the present study aspires to explore the Pakistan stock market concerning herding behaviour. Investors’ industry-wise market-based herding behavior in the Pakistan stock market has been examined by employing daily data obtained from Bloomberg starting from January 2000 to April 2016. Cross-sectional variabilities in the factor sensitivities (Beta) have been employed to estimate investors' sentimental herding behavior, following the model of Hwang and Salmon (2004). The study found herding to be significant and persistent, independent from market fundamentals, like levels of market returns and volatility of returns. Findings also show that investors do herd considering the industrial classification of financial assets; hence it leads to mispricing of stocks. The study also presents industry differences in herding. Sugar and banking sectors are found to be more prone to herding while textile and manufacturing sectors are found less prone to herding. The results entail cogent implications for the investors pursuing diversification in the Pakistan stock market.","PeriodicalId":255789,"journal":{"name":"Pakistan Business Review","volume":"21 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-02-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116945635","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Originally community-based organizations were designed to bring lender-borrower closer for socio-economic development is now used to identify customers with repaying capacity. The MFOs derived international financial organizations’ financial sustainability discourse remains predominant and community organizations are means to develop relationship building for commercial goals. The interdisciplinary study uses interpretive methodology, discourse analysis and case method, interviewing 120 female borrowers individually and collectively in a more than 120 hours juxtaposing MFOs, and international financial organizations discourse with the borrowers’ text. The findings show there is a mismatch between stated social development goals and microloans only meet social and consumption needs. The study suggests MFOs dual strategy does not serve social development goals and there is need to pursue either goals.","PeriodicalId":255789,"journal":{"name":"Pakistan Business Review","volume":"5 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-11-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127795380","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
