This paper proposes a novel method for energy harvesting for the Internet of things (IoT) based applications by exploiting the inherent inadequacies of the sampling process. The sensor nodes generate a continuous-time signal corresponding to the sensed parameters, which sampled and digitized for further processing. However, the traditional sampling process discarded most of the input signal energy, which could be harvested to supplement the sensor node itself. The sampling interval (i.e., the duration between two samples) of the sampling process, is composed of acquisition and hold time. During acquisition time, the continuous-time input signal is connected to a capacitor for acquiring the input signal value, while in hold time, the capacitor holds the acquired value and disconnects from the input signal. Therefore, during the hold time, the input signal energy is wasted, making the overall sampling process inadequate. This paper overcomes these inadequacies by modifying the circuitry of the sampling process during the hold time. It thus harvests the energy from the input signal obtained through a sensing element without affecting the overall performance of the system. To validate the proposed method, a hardware setup has been designed to sample and harvest the energy for both the environment as well as health monitoring application.","PeriodicalId":254869,"journal":{"name":"2020 IEEE International Conference on Communications Workshops (ICC Workshops)","volume":"12 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114461204","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

To fully utilize its advantage, an efficient algorithm for scheduling multiple subbands while taking into account practical requirements such as probabilistic QoS and aligned transmission constraints is needed. In this paper, we apply a probabilistic method to relax the constraints and decouple the optimal scheduling problem into two sub-problems, namely user assignment and power allocation. We solve each sub-problem by using parametric and iterative algorithms. Simulation results show that the proposed method outperforms the baseline.","PeriodicalId":254869,"journal":{"name":"2020 IEEE International Conference on Communications Workshops (ICC Workshops)","volume":"5 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114466265","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The pro-liferation of cheaper sensor hardware has allowed for widerscale data collection deployments. With increased numbers ofdeployed sensors and the use of heterogeneous sensor typesthere is increased scope for collecting erroneous, inaccurate orinconsistent data. This in turn may lead to inaccurate modelsbuilt from this data. It is important to evaluate this data asit is collected to determine its validity. This paper presents ananalysis of data quality as it is represented in Internet of Things(IoT) systems and some of the limitations of this representation. The paper discusses the use of trust as a heuristic to drive dataquality measurements. Trust is a well-established metric that hasbeen used to determine the validity of a piece or source of datain crowd sourced or other unreliable data collection techniques. The analysis extends to detail an appropriate framework forrepresenting data quality effectively within the big data modeland why a trust backed framework is important especially inheterogeneously sourced IoT data streams.","PeriodicalId":254869,"journal":{"name":"2020 IEEE International Conference on Communications Workshops (ICC Workshops)","volume":"14 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115276682","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Equipped with certain payloads, UAVs are able to gather data from sensors located in a particular area where no ground base station is available for transmitting data, such as oceans and mountains. However, for a time-sensitive network, the latency has to be minimized, especially in heterogeneous scenarios where each sensor has its own latency tolerance, which emphasizes the importance of trajectory design of UAVs. In this paper, we propose a priority-oriented trajectory planning problem for a UAV-aided time-sensitive heterogeneous IoT network, based on which we provide a solution for satisfying the latency tolerance of the network within a given period of time. Aiming at optimizing trajectories, we employ continuous Deep Q-Learning Network (DQN) which is proven to be capable of identifying a relatively optimal trajectory compared to the benchmarks through a large number of experiments. Simulation results are provided for demonstrating that the proposed DQN-based algorithm outperforms the benchmarks. More particularly, the proposed DQN-based algorithm is capable of achieving in excess of 49% and 10% improvements in system costs over the greedy algorithm and Q-Learning algorithm, respectively.","PeriodicalId":254869,"journal":{"name":"2020 IEEE International Conference on Communications Workshops (ICC Workshops)","volume":"417 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116260029","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Fog computing is promising to lower communication delay and offload network traffic with the scale of big data increasing in large-scale IoT application, which brings micro-data centers to the network edge, enabling the network edge to perceive, process, storage and calculate the massive data, reducing the amount of transferred data. However, numerous fog nodes at the network edge face an external attack resulting in serious security threats arising from the trusting relationship vulnerability because of the lack of the consideration of the properties of the fog computing system. This paper addresses the design for developing secure distributed data management platform for fog computing in large-scale IoT application, along with a blockchain-based data management implementation of the platform, which approaches the major challenges: how to realize the integration of data security and storage management for fog computing in large-scale IoT application and enrich rational interoperability for interconnected things. Experimental results show that the system works well to empower data provenance and transparency and defend against unauthorized access effectively in fog computing, scales well with loss of the performance of communication and computing maintaining in acceptable range, verifying the efficiency and feasibility of our design to provide privacy, integrity and fine-grained data management for fog computing in large-scale IoT application by introducing the data management platform based upon the blockchain network and smart contracts therein.","PeriodicalId":254869,"journal":{"name":"2020 IEEE International Conference on Communications Workshops (ICC Workshops)","volume":"12 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114927619","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The wireless communications with OAM can be divided into the OAM multiplexing and the OAM index modulation. In this paper, the system architecture of wireless communications with OAM is established. Afterwards, the capacity of wireless communications with OAM is analyzed based on the propagation scheme. Additionally, the capacity bound of wireless communications with OAM is also presented. Then, the mutual information results for the OAM multiplexing and the OAM index modulation are derived. Since the OAM index modulation is a specific modulation of wireless communications with OAM, the mutual information of the OAM index modulation is much lower than the capacity bound. It is demonstrated by numerical results that the maximum capacity is achieved when the OAM multiplexing technique is adopted. Moreover, it is also concluded that the OAM modes and bandwidth are symmetry for the channel capacity.","PeriodicalId":254869,"journal":{"name":"2020 IEEE International Conference on Communications Workshops (ICC Workshops)","volume":"21 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127385975","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Being its stack open, lots of researchers have been deeply investigating LoRa performance and proposing interesting ways of enhancing its capabilities, yet with little impact on the standard. In this paper, we present a novel platform for the monitoring and management of LoRa-based IoT networks called LoMM, whose aim is that of bridging the gap between the research domain and the real deployments domain. The modular architecture of LoMM allows the rapid prototyping of solutions at the edge, spanning from algorithms and policies for efficient network management, to custom functionalities for novel applications. Thus, in this paper, a pre-distorted ADO-OFDM (PADO-OFDM) scheme is proposed to eliminate the mutual interference between ACO-OFDM and DCO-OFDM signals, which means the demodulation of ACO-OFDM and DCO-OFDM signals can be processed simultaneously, and the conventional error propagation from the previous subtraction method can be avoided. Moreover, the corresponding characteristic of PADO-OFDM is also derived, while the formula of probability density function is investigated. Through the complexity analysis, the computational complexity of PADO-OFDM at the receiver is much lower than that of the conventional ADO-OFDM. Moreover, simulation results show that compared with the conventional ADO-OFDM scheme, the proposed PADO-OFDM scheme has the advantages of low process latency.","PeriodicalId":254869,"journal":{"name":"2020 IEEE International Conference on Communications Workshops (ICC Workshops)","volume":"65 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125930579","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
