The architecture being proposed is based on the concepts of cluster, consortium, manufacturing components, manufacturing resource agent, agent machine interface, and contracts, which are used to govern the skills brought to the consortium or cluster. The basic architecture for each agent is indicated and analysed as well as the knowledge model and ontologies used. Finally the development environment is presented and some practical results are shown.","PeriodicalId":254550,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings. 13th International Workshop on Database and Expert Systems Applications","volume":"28 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2002-09-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126683421","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

But the wrapper generation techniques presented to date show several weaknesses when dealing with the complex commercial Web sources of today, especially when constructing advanced navigational sequences for accessing data. We present Wargo, a semi-automatic wrapper generation tool, which has been used by non-programmer staff to successfully wrap more than 700 commercial Web sources in several industrial applications.","PeriodicalId":254550,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings. 13th International Workshop on Database and Expert Systems Applications","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2002-09-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131233256","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

As part of the project, a resource annotation tool (RAT) is being developed to support the collection, annotation and retrieval of diverse Web resources to provide content for personal or shared spaces within a forum. Interaction with the RAT tool will enable a user to reuse and personalise an official site ontology, based on personal interests and for a group of users to identify overlapping areas of interest. Tools will further be provided to facilitate users in the construction of coherent stories using their personal content, based on narrative principles. This paper describes the existing functionality of the RAT tool and plans for future development.","PeriodicalId":254550,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings. 13th International Workshop on Database and Expert Systems Applications","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2002-09-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129515322","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Together with the fact that the cell layout in metropolitan areas like Hong Kong is different from other smaller cities, this paper is an investigation and a revisit in search of a set of location estimation algorithms based on signal attenuation. With the technical support from a local mobile operator, we have constructed and conducted several real world experiments for our investigation and results are promising.","PeriodicalId":254550,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings. 13th International Workshop on Database and Expert Systems Applications","volume":"16 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2002-09-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128718648","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

At the same time, Web based learning frameworks also pose many problems. For example, a teacher used to old-style teaching methods may find it difficult to put course material online, and a student may suffer from information overload. In this paper, we present an open framework that solves these two problems. In particular, our framework allows students to interact with an automatic question answering system to get their answers, and allows teachers to analysis student learning patterns and organize Web-based contents efficiently. The framework is both intelligent through data mining and case-based reasoning features, and user-friendly through personalized services to both teachers and students.","PeriodicalId":254550,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings. 13th International Workshop on Database and Expert Systems Applications","volume":"79 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2002-09-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125451728","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The protocol is used where a number of users dynamically migrate to/from an adhoc network to communicate multimedia messages. The protocol has four features. (1) Since the protocol doesn't need a center station, it can construct an adhoc wireless network. (2) The protocol assigns a transmission slot periodically for real-time data, while for non-real-time data it assigns as many slots as possible to enhance efficiency: (3) The protocol uses a stable continual tree algorithm for slot reservation to reduce admission delay. (4) All transmission data includes the control data indicating required slots successively, which enables a terminal to join and leave the network dynamically. The protocol is evaluated by simulation to show fair throughput for any multimedia data.","PeriodicalId":254550,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings. 13th International Workshop on Database and Expert Systems Applications","volume":"25 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2002-09-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123055541","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
