All the structures of the digestive tract can be reached from the oral cavity to the anus [3,6,7]. Intestinal involvement is reported in 40 to 60% of cases, and is by far dominated by intestinal hypomotility, malabsorption syndrome, and pseudo-obstructions [3, 6]. Intestinal perforation remains exceptional, dominates particularly in the colon, and is associated with a poor prognosis.","PeriodicalId":253537,"journal":{"name":"ARC Journal of Surgery","volume":"12 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114307880","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Generally, the incidence of RPE after treatment of a spontaneous pneumothorax ranges from 0.9%-29.8% [1,2]. We previously reported that RPE occurs in 7.1% of patients after chest drainage for a spontaneous pneumothorax [3].Although most patients with RPE recover without treatment, in severe cases supplemental oxygen and ventilator support are necessary. Herein we describe the risk factors for symptomatic RPE in all cases that had diagnosis of RPE at our institution.","PeriodicalId":253537,"journal":{"name":"ARC Journal of Surgery","volume":"81 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123298133","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Mortality and morbidity following perforated peptic ulcer (PPU) is substantial, and mortality rates of 25–30% have been reported indifferent published studies(2, 3). Surgery is most successful mode of treatment of perforated peptic ulcer peritonitis. Formal acid-reducing procedures like vagotomy with or without drainage procedures, which has historically been the mainstay of PPU therapy, are now being replaced by simpler procedures, such as omental patch primary closure of the perforation, owing to better understanding of the pathophysiology of peptic ulcer and successful eradication of H. pylori treatment. Perforated duodenal ulcer treated by patch repair with a vascularized omental pedicle commonly referred to as a Graham patch or omentopexy. However, in cases of perforated gastric ulcer, either ulcer excision and repair of the defect or biopsy and omental patch are the most expeditious approach in the emergency setting.","PeriodicalId":253537,"journal":{"name":"ARC Journal of Surgery","volume":"7 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115811113","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

There are many alternative techniques to the classical Halsted approach to the IANB, which were thoroughly researched and proved its usefulness. The choice of the clinician, as to what technique to use, is heavily dependent on many different factors, for example – the success rate of the technique as well as the complication that may arise from it. All doctors of dental medicine should be well versed in different techniques of mandibular nerve blocks, so that they can effectively choose the most appropriate for the concrete clinical case. Many of the IANB techniques require from the clinician to identify intraoral landmarks, which in most of the cases is really difficult, because of their high variability. Because of the many anatomic variation, and the difficulty in their clear identification, the success rate in some cases can be really low and the learning curve of the different techniques can be quite hard.","PeriodicalId":253537,"journal":{"name":"ARC Journal of Surgery","volume":"39 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116615039","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Both tumors developed following the typical pattern described by literature: slowly growing, mobile, soft, and painless masses, exceeding 5 centimeters in diameter. Each example corresponds to each of the possible locations of deep lipomas of the hand over the thenar eminence: on the synovial sheath of the flexor apparatus -epivaginal-, or under it endovaginal-. Their size was sufficient to cause functional impairment and constant pain, so surgical excisions were performed preserving local neurovascular structures. During the follow-up period only one patient suffered neurological sequela. 2.
