The design is made of a multi-loop structure, based on serial complementary antennas, as said “twisted” antennas. The RFID tag detection is optimized by two factors which rely on the modifications of the magnetic field (i) vectorial distribution and (ii) magnitude density. The reader antenna design is analyzed with electromagnetic simulation under HFSS (High Frequency Electromagnetic Field Simulation), and validated by detection measurements, in coplanar mode. A multi-loop structure, composed by 4 sub-loops, is then conformed onto a tube surface to provide the 3D structure. The goal of this improvement is to provide tag detection for any angular positions. At the center of the tube (3D reader structure), the detection of the tag is performed whatever its angular orientation, that is to say for any radial orientation.","PeriodicalId":253379,"journal":{"name":"2016 Loughborough Antennas & Propagation Conference (LAPC)","volume":"126 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-11-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128189092","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The dihedral-equipped with phase-shifting cells-obeys the retro directive phase law to redirect the wave back in the same direction of incidence. This retro-law is derived in function of the geometry parameters and plane wave incidence angle using simple trigonometric relations. It is shown that the reflected signal from the first panel hits the other panel with very oblique incidence angle. Due to that, the phase responses of the cells-designed using the classical normal incidence setup-get deteriorated to the extent they no more obey the required phase law. Upon this information, new setup is proposed to enhance the functionality of the cells and hence enhance the retro directive behavior of the dihedral at 24 GHz. Simulations using Ansoft® HFSS software have been performed to validate this method.","PeriodicalId":253379,"journal":{"name":"2016 Loughborough Antennas & Propagation Conference (LAPC)","volume":"60 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-11-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126098739","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this paper, a multiband planar inverted F-antenna (PIFA) with frequency agility characteristic was designed and numerically studied for ISM applications. A varactor diode was incorporated in the corner between the radiating patch and the added floating ground plane. By applying a reverse voltage V, three resonance frequencies can be electrically controlled. Wide tuning frequency ranges were obtained; F1 can be shifted from 650 to 896 MHz, F2 from 954 to 1379 MHz and F3 from 1502 to 2457 MHz. The reference and the active antennas were manufactured and characterized. Simulations and measurements are presented and discussed.","PeriodicalId":253379,"journal":{"name":"2016 Loughborough Antennas & Propagation Conference (LAPC)","volume":"10 2 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-11-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128174328","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The antenna structure consists of a single patch antenna on top of a printed circuit board and two aperture coupled feeds in the ground plane which are used to generate both left- and right-hand (LH and RH) circular polarizations for the patch. The feed network is implemented as a 2-section branch-line coupler underneath the ground plane. It is able to generate adequate phase shifts for both LH and RH circular polarizations simultaneously via two feed ports. Due to the aperture coupling and coupler implementation three layer printed circuit board approach is used. The measured axial ratio is <; 1.35 for both polarizations over the 24 MHz bandwidth at the frequency of 1.575 GHz. The isolation between the LH and RH feed ports in reception mode is -35... -26 dB in the broadside direction. The antenna enables simultaneous direct and multipath signal measurement with equal spatial coordinates for both polarizations.","PeriodicalId":253379,"journal":{"name":"2016 Loughborough Antennas & Propagation Conference (LAPC)","volume":"36 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115372042","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The proposed antenna consists of a slot antenna on a metallic grooved structure with a single frequency selective surface. A small size and improved gain performance are the key objectives of this design. To achieve these two objectives, we use an optimization procedure based on a global algorithm. Both simulation and optimization are carried out by means of a full-wave electromagnetic simulation tool. Afterward, a prototype of the proposed antenna has been manufactured in order to verify their performances. More than 15dB of gain is obtained over the operating frequency range, with approximately 17dB at the frequency 25.5GHz. the small size and high-gain characteristics make this antenna very suitable for non-contact measurement, especially for short-range radar sensors.","PeriodicalId":253379,"journal":{"name":"2016 Loughborough Antennas & Propagation Conference (LAPC)","volume":"37 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"117169179","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In the past, the methodology used to design filters generally assumed ideal working conditions for these devices. However, when such filters are used in a real environment, factors such as temperature and working power affect their performance. Here, we use modern simulation tools to evaluate the electromagnetic response of a filter at different temperatures and under different operating conditions.","PeriodicalId":253379,"journal":{"name":"2016 Loughborough Antennas & Propagation Conference (LAPC)","volume":"100 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127134953","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This antenna system is based on a capacitively loaded loop (CLL) driven by an electrically small monopole antenna. This elementary antenna is then used in a two elements compact parasitic array, in order to achieve a higher directivity. The two elements of this array are identical, but only one of them is driven, the other one is used as a parasitic element. The design of the elementary antenna, its simulated radiation performance, as well as those of the parasitic array are reported. Two corresponding prototypes were fabricated and tested. The measured impedance mismatch and radiation pattern results are presented and are shown to be in good agreement with their simulated values.","PeriodicalId":253379,"journal":{"name":"2016 Loughborough Antennas & Propagation Conference (LAPC)","volume":"45 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124873270","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Previous work published by the authors considered a novel passive chip less RFID tag for subcutaneous implant. This work investigates practical validation of gain enhancement techniques, aiming to improve tag detect-ability in the highly attenuating environment of the human body. Two passive tags are considered, a uniform cross shaped resonator, and a folded (Gammadion) cross having a physical aperture 45% less than that of the uniform cross. Arrays of elements have been used to improve the detect-ability of the tag. It has been shown that with the folded cross it was possible to accommodate more elements on the tag without increasing the original physical aperture. Improved tag detect-ability with reduced size is ideal for any implantable medical device.","PeriodicalId":253379,"journal":{"name":"2016 Loughborough Antennas & Propagation Conference (LAPC)","volume":"4 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126087043","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
