The water quality of the river must be within standard values to maintain aquatic biodiversity. In this study, water quality, available spaces for fish, and socio-economic status of fishermen were analyzed to find their relationships in Kushiara River, Fenchuganj, Sylhet. Samples of water quality and fish species were collected from August 2017 to September 2021. At the same time, fishermen were surveyed to find out their economic status. The water quality analysis showed all the parameters analyzed (pH, Dissolved Oxygen (DO), Biochemical Oxygen Demand (BOD), Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD) and Total Dissolved Solid (TDS)) are within the range of international and Bangladesh standards for surface water. The pH, DO, BOD, COD, TDS was respectively 7.1-7.99, 5.5 mg/l to 8.4 mg/l, 1 to 4.6 mg/l, 17 to 32 mg/l, 30 to 70 mg/l. Where the local standard is 6.5-8.5, more than 5 mg/l, less than 6 mg/l, 17 to 32 mg/l for pH, DO and BOD. The international standard is less than 34.2 mg/l. and 30 to 70 mg/l for COD and TDS in that order. A total of 40 species of fish are recorded in 2017 and 49 in 2021. The average income of a local fisherman was 3 USD to 15 USD in the off pick season (December- February), and 7 USD to 30 USD in the peak season (September-November). The fish merchant’s daily income was 4 USD to 20 USD in the off-peak season and 7 USD to 30 USD in the peak season. So all fisher man, fish traders can spend their life by fish catching and fish trading. Due to fish production those people can earn money and can fulfill their daily needs. It is concluded that the water quality was adequate for fish diversity and to sustain the socioeconomic condition of the fishermen and fish traders in the Kushiara River.","PeriodicalId":252910,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Oceanography & Aquaculture","volume":"92 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-02-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140415775","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A total of 51 infected fish samples were collected from different places in Bangladesh between April 2019 to December 2020. Among 51 infected fish samples (26 Pabda, & 25 Gulsha), 47(92.16%) were infected with pathogenic bacteria and 4(7.84%) were normal flora. From the total of 51 isolated bacterial strains, the highest number was 16(31.37%) for Vibrio spp., the second highest for Aeromonas spp, was 12(23.52%), and the next was 5(9.80%) for Streptococcus spp. On the other hand, Pseudomonas spp, only 4(7.84%) and the rest 3(5.88%) Flavobacterium spp., Citobacter spp., and Edwarsiella spp., Enterobacter spp., and parasite 1(1.96%). In our study, among the isolated pathogenic bacteria, 39(76.47%) were resistant to Amoxicillin and 28(54.90%) were resistant to Erythromycin. Whereas maximum sensitivity was found for Ciprofloxacin 35(68.63%). The isolation of emergent bacterial pathogens that impose a threat to fish is the main objective of this article.","PeriodicalId":252910,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Oceanography & Aquaculture","volume":"89 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124183010","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Fisheries extension activities are activities that are also impacted directly and indirectly by the policy. By using qualitative indicative approach at provincial level, this study was conducted accordingly. It was found that no substantial indication that the decentralization policy led to a better performance of fisheries extension at provincial level. Moratorium policy for the establishment of new administrative territories is therefore supported by this result of the study.","PeriodicalId":252910,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Oceanography & Aquaculture","volume":"4 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130518511","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

These samples were collected to study the response of carbon isotope (δ13C values) fractionation in calcareous shells of planktic foraminiferal species Globigerina bulloides towards the nutrient contents of the ambient sea waters along a northsouth transect in the south-western Indian Ocean. It may be inferred that isotopic values (δ13C) in general increase as the nutrient content of ambient water masses decreases in the regions south of 300 S latitude. On the other hand δ13C values are relatively low in the region north of 30o S having higher nutrients in the ambient waters. The results of present study demonstrate the potential of foraminiferal δ13C values to trace the signature of paleo-nutrients changes in this region. The inferences drawn here further necessitates to take up similar studies along many transect in and around study area to arrive at a comprehensive picture.","PeriodicalId":252910,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Oceanography & Aquaculture","volume":"28 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132180345","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Ninetythree individuals from 17 ingroups (including seven genera) and five outgroup species were studied. The pedunculated species included taxa from the order Scalpellomorpha a) superfamily: Lepadoidea (family Lepadidae; genera Conchoderma, Dosima, Lepas and family: Poecilasmatidae; genera Octolasmis and Poecilasma), and b) order Pollicipedomorpha (family: Pollicipedidae; genera Capitilum and Pollicipes). As the ingroup members represent a polyphyletic assemblage, our analysis was limited to estimating the status and the genetic relationship of the new species. We show that Lepas lalandii sp. nov. is monophyletic and a member of the Lepadidae, but separated from other Lepas. Full descriptions of Lepas lalandii sp. nov. will follow detailed morphological studies. This is conceivably the most extensive dataset for the individuals studied.","PeriodicalId":252910,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Oceanography & Aquaculture","volume":"12 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131323431","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In the last decades, the dissolved organic compounds acquired a new dimension, in the water and in the sediments, due to its important role in the biogeochemical cycle of the organic matter. Concerning it, proteins, carbohydrates and lipids present on the sediments could be used in order to access the environmental trophic state. In this study, water properties and organic matter compounds in sediments were used in order to verify the trophic condition once it is a rare data from these regions. Although the PCA groupings are based on specific variables, such as water and sediment parameters, two specific groups were observed in both cases (a and b). Group a suggests stations with eutrophication tendency or, based on sediment variables, in hypertrophic condition, while Group b suggests areas in healthier conditions as meso-oligotrophic environments. Similarities on grouping based on water and sediment parameters were observed. The study of coupling water and sediment properties (pelagic and benthic coupling) and organic compounds constitute an important focus for improving the access to the trophic state avoiding the evaluation based only on sediment parameters that could cause more incertitude.","PeriodicalId":252910,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Oceanography & Aquaculture","volume":"67 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129234982","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

With this in mind, a characterization study of phytoplankton, the basis of the trophic food chain leading to fish, was conducted from January to December 2021 in ponds in the West Cameroon regionand at the Research Unit of Ichthyology and Applied Hydrobiology of the University of Dschang. To do this, a total of fifteen (15) ponds including 03 in Bamendou fertilized with cowpat, 04 in Batie including 02 fertilized with pig manure and 02 with wheat bran, 01 in Dschang fertilized with chicken manure, 04 in Fokoue including 02 fertilized with pig manure and 02 unfertilized and 03 in Foumbot fertilized with cowpat, were considered. These ponds were chosen based on the availability of fish farmers and the type of fertilizer administered. Sampling of biotic characteristics including phytoplankton richness, relative abundance and density was done between 6 and 8 a.m. following a monthly frequency. The results showed that the highest specific richness (42.73% of total species richness) was observed in Batie ponds fertilized with pig manure and generic richness (81.53% of total genera richness) and families (84.21% oftotal of families richness) highest phytoplankton in Batie ponds fertilized with wheat bran. Regardless of the type of pond, Chlorophyta were more abundant (40.50%). With the exception of Chrysophyta who were absent in the ponds of Foumbot fertilized with cowpat, all other groups were listed in the different types of ponds. The significantly (p<0.05) highest phytoplankton density (71. 107 ind/L) was observed in ponds fertilized with chicken manure with high concentrations of nitrates and nitrites.","PeriodicalId":252910,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Oceanography & Aquaculture","volume":"11 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122261700","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The total of aquatic and terrestrial habitats adjoining the Lake facilitate the rich diversity of flora and fauna compared to other Ethiopian Rift valleys Lakes. However, the biomass of catfish species in this Lake is declined from time to time. So, the purpose of this study was to evaluate household’s willingness to pay and determine the factors affecting willingness to pay for catfish species conservation in Lake Hawassa, Sidama National Region state, Ethiopia. The survey was conducted through face-to-face interviews of 200 respondents. The elicitation method used to value is contingent valuation, through a single dichotomous choice and openended follow-up question. The probit model was used to identify the willingness to pay of the respondents. The descriptive result showed that the respondent’s average age was 28.82 years, the experience of respondent’s in fishing was 9.3 years, income from fish was 85.8 US$ per year, a distance of respondent’s home from Lake was 41.54 minutes and land size was 0.2313 hectares and from the total sampled respondents 75% were male and 25% were female. About 82.5% of the respondents were willing to pay and 17.5% were unwilling to pay for catfish species conservation in Lake Hawassa. The mean willingness to pay for catfish species conservation of respondents was found to be 3.62 US$ per year and aggregating the mean value of total respondents would give 954,090.23 US$ per year. The probit model result revealed that the total income, training on fish species conservation, and experience of respondents on fishing were positively affected the willingness to pay. On the other side, the distance of respondent’s home from Lake and land size of respondents have negatively affected willingness to pay. So, training and awareness creation is needed to fulfill the knowledge gap of communities on catfish species conservation.","PeriodicalId":252910,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Oceanography & Aquaculture","volume":"34 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134553781","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
