Removable dentures persist in mouth for up to 16 hours\u0000every day. Inadequately cleaned dentures with lots of plaque accumulated, can compromise health status of mucosa and remaining teeth. It can\u0000lead to stomatitis protetica, candidiasis and periodontitis.\u0000Aim of the research was to investigate habits of 65+ old patients, regarding the method and frequency of cleaning their dentures, to investigate\u0000substances used for cleaning and to investigate frequency and causes for dental visits.\u0000Materials and methods: Questionnaire was presented to 61 patient who were 65 or older, and have removable dentures.\u0000Results: 82% of the patients interviewed is cleaning their dentures at least twice daily.93% of them is using the mechanical method of cleaning\u0000the dentures. 86% is using a toothpaste for cleaning, 52% is keeping the dentures in clean water when it is not in the mouth, 48% is using\u0000cleaning tablets. 57% of interviewed patients is wearing dentures at night. 48% of them reported that they have never been instructed from their\u0000dentists on how to clean their dentures. 36% of them goes to the dentist only when have some emergency problem.\u0000Conclusion: The patients had limited knowledge about prosthetic- and oral hygiene, and they rarely visited dentist. There were positive\u0000correlation between TNF-α and CTx, OPG and vit-D, as well as CTx and vit-D levels. Vit-D, OPG mean values of chronic periodontitis group with\u0000adequate vit-D levels (>75nmol/l) were found to be statistically significantly higher than inadequate individuals (<75nmol/l) and TNF-α, CTxve\u0000RANKL levels were found lower (p<0.001).\u0000Conclusion: According to our findings, the poor oral hygiene level in chronic periodontitis patients was the main factor strongly associated with\u0000chronic periodontitis. Vitamin D levels significantly increased the serum levels of OPG that caused a reduction in levels of RANKL. So, 25-OH vit\u0000D was effective in the pathogenesis of chronic periodontitis.
