In accordance with this purpose, schools have a great variety of functions. The impact of schools, which have individual, social, economic, and political functions, on the individual is seen more on social functions. Schools, having a significant effect on the socialization process among social functions, also fulfill the function of cultural transfer. In this article, the function and importance of schools as educational institutions in cultural transfer will be examined. In recent years, online education has started to take place more in our livesboth in the world and in Turkey. Especially with the Covid-19 coronavirus pandemic that emerged in 2020, online education has entered into our lives very quickly. The suspension of face-to-face education and the closure of schools during the pandemic process have once again brought to light the function of schools. This article has been written on the assumption that the cultural transfer function of educational institutions is negatively affected by online (distance) education. Based on this assumption, the subject and purpose of the article are to reveal the importance of schools as educational institutions in cultural transfer. By emphasizing the significance of the relationship between education and culture in the article, it has been concluded that schools, as educational institutions, have an important function in terms of cultural transfer and that this function cannot be fulfilled in the distance education system. An examination of teachers’ and students’ perspectives on these notions in the same EFL context is a significant research issue is as it is indispensable for both to construct a personal and professional L2 identity in relation to the current sociocultural profile of English speakers in their language education context. Therefore, this paper investigates the perceptions of university instructors working at an obligatory English preparatory program and of students who study at different departments of a state university in terms of these three constructs both psychologically and socioculturally important in the process of language speaker/ teacher identity (re)construction. An open-ended questionnaire was utilised to gain an in-depth understanding of EFL instructors’ and students’ experiences of English language learning/ teaching through a qualitative case study research design.
