But due to the remoteness of the areas, the follow up of patients has become a major challenge. In this work we propose an Internet of things based patient health monitoring system as a solution to afore mentioned problem. The system monitors vital health parameters of a patient and uploads the data to server using a software based gateway. The data is processed real-time and doctor is alerted when anomalies are detected. There is provision for bi-directional data flow, allowing the doctor to send clinical advice to the patient. The system was tested in a rural healthcare unit and real-time data was generated. The results were confirmed by qualified medical practitioner.","PeriodicalId":248902,"journal":{"name":"2016 IEEE International Conference on Advanced Networks and Telecommunications Systems (ANTS)","volume":"7 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124170480","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

CSMA/CA used in IEEE 802.11 standard is well known for unfair behavior towards distant nodes. In this paper, first, we present a multi-user multiple input multiple output (MU-MIMO) MAC protocol for the uplink of a network and propose a modified version with better fairness performance. Then, we evaluate the performance of our MAC protocols using stochastic geometry and demonstrate fairness enhancement with numerical results.","PeriodicalId":248902,"journal":{"name":"2016 IEEE International Conference on Advanced Networks and Telecommunications Systems (ANTS)","volume":"30 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126453814","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Though the medical sensory data is now routinely encrypted and signed, the timestamp associated with the data, which is needed for accurate correlation and reconstruction of medical events, remains poorly secured. In this paper we first motivate the problem by demonstrating with two medically approved devices on the market today that timestamps can be easily tampered to backfill medical data. We then propose a novel solution that works within the resource constraints of wearable devices to secure timestamps against malicious or ill-configured gateways. Lastly, we evaluate our solution via simulation and experimentation across multiple network access technologies.","PeriodicalId":248902,"journal":{"name":"2016 IEEE International Conference on Advanced Networks and Telecommunications Systems (ANTS)","volume":"29 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127689812","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The controller placement problem mainly deals with determining the optimal location of the controllers and assignment of the switches to the controllers. Failure of the controllers results in disconnections between switches and controllers. These disconnected switches must be reassigned to one of the other working controllers. This reassignment can be done by solving an assignment problem, which generally requires administrative intervention. The latency in case of failures may increase drastically due to the lack of planning for failures. In this paper, we propose a controller placement strategy that plans ahead for controller failures to avoid disconnections, repeated administrative intervention, and drastic increase in latency. We formulated the problem as a mixed integer linear program (MILP). The objective is to minimize the worst case latency in case of failures. Simulation results show that our proposed method performs better than the controller placement that does not plan ahead for failures.","PeriodicalId":248902,"journal":{"name":"2016 IEEE International Conference on Advanced Networks and Telecommunications Systems (ANTS)","volume":"36 4 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116527915","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Wireless optical integrated networks have emerged as a very effective solution for providing mobile high data rate connections to the users. However, the independence of the wireless and optical network protocols makes it challenging to provide good quality of service after integrating the two networks. The problem escalates in the presence of mixed traffic with different priorities. Thus, minimizing jitter for video in presence of voice in the uplink is an issue. In this paper, we propose an algorithm that reduces jitter for video in the uplink at the expense of controlled increase of delay for video as well as voice traffic. Our proposal particularly deals with the integration of ethernet passive optical network with IEEE 802.11 wireless local area networks. A simulation platform for the integrated network has been developed using OMNeT++. We provide extensive simulation study to demonstrate the benefit of our proposed integration algorithm.","PeriodicalId":248902,"journal":{"name":"2016 IEEE International Conference on Advanced Networks and Telecommunications Systems (ANTS)","volume":"10 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114376514","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The storage services of cloud environment are replacing the traditional Content Delivery Networks for more reliability and easy availability of contents to users. Most research in Content Delivery Networks mainly focuses on delivering contents to the users with less latency and traffic cost. Apart from this the overall cost incurred for the content providers in cases of bandwidth and storage should also be taken into consideration. Most existing Content Delivery Networks focus only on the bandwidth and in some cases latency. In this paper a novel Content Delivery Model is proposed that makes use of a Genetic Optimization Algorithm (GOA) combined with an efficient storage model that can achieve better content placement and delivery in Cloud based Content Delivery Networks. The proposed approach updates itself dynamically to avoid unwanted use of storage that achieves a much better placement of contents thus reducing the storage cost.","PeriodicalId":248902,"journal":{"name":"2016 IEEE International Conference on Advanced Networks and Telecommunications Systems (ANTS)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125136031","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

DPI systems use unique byte patterns as signatures to detect application traffic. Applications frequently update their version to add new features and/or to bypass firewall/DPI systems. Thus, an accurate DPI system needs to periodically verify existing signatures and update them if required. The manual task of application traffic generation and verification on multiple platforms is very tedious and error-prone. We propose a fully automated DPI verification system with machine learning techniques for periodic DPI signature verification and update. Automated mobile application traffic generation is achieved by open source tools GUITAR and Appium. Signature verification and new signature pattern suggestion from undetected flows are achieved by well-known and custom made machine learning algorithms, thus completing full signature verification and update cycle. Initial test results show that our solution saves lot of man hours and detects signature update in shortest possible time.","PeriodicalId":248902,"journal":{"name":"2016 IEEE International Conference on Advanced Networks and Telecommunications Systems (ANTS)","volume":"171 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"117312373","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The hop-by-hop path selection criterion, in which routing is done based on local channel state information, loses diversity gain due to lack of relay selection in the last hop. To overcome this issue, we study an improved path selection strategy, in which final two hops are selected jointly to achieve the maximum spatial diversity. The exact and asymptotic expressions of bit-error-rate are derived for both the path selection schemes. Numerical results show that the improved path-selection criterion performs far better than that of hop-by-hop selection criterion with a little increase in implementation complexity.","PeriodicalId":248902,"journal":{"name":"2016 IEEE International Conference on Advanced Networks and Telecommunications Systems (ANTS)","volume":"46 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128565203","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Due to its exhaustive specification and complex implementation it becomes essential to perform vulnerability analysis. The paper highlights attack surface specific to function codes present in Data Link and Application layer of the protocol stack. In order to realize the attack scenarios we have extended Scapy tool to add on DNP3 protocol stack. We have presented attack scenarios based on packet fabrication and packet modification threat categories. The subsequent findings and analysis of our work will help in developing DNP3/TCP based Protocol Validation tool to check the vendor implementation of the protocol. Further, it can also serve as Vulnerability Assessment and Penetrating Testing (VAPT) tool.","PeriodicalId":248902,"journal":{"name":"2016 IEEE International Conference on Advanced Networks and Telecommunications Systems (ANTS)","volume":"38 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127697440","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In a generic D2D framework, two cellular users living in close proximity can form a direct link for data transmission without routing it through the base station (BS). However control or signaling information between the users will still be carried out by the BS. In this paper, we augment the development of D2D communication by proposing an orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) based subcarrier sharing scheme to facilitate D2D communication between cellular users. Analytical expressions for outage probability for two different D2D frameworks namely overlay and cooperative D2D have been derived. Through the obtained results, we can determine the exact number of subcarriers available for D2D communication while fulfilling the target rate and outage probability constraint of cellular system. It also has been shown that for low cellular outage constraint, overlay performs better than cooperative D2D whereas for high cellular outage constraint, the cooperative D2D framework completely outperforms the overlay D2D framework.","PeriodicalId":248902,"journal":{"name":"2016 IEEE International Conference on Advanced Networks and Telecommunications Systems (ANTS)","volume":"120 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128123361","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
