This technology proposes the development of a new radio type - a cognitive radio - endowed with intelligence that shall sense, share, and use the spectrum opportunities (SOP) of the preexisting wireless networks, that is the channels that are not used by the licensed users. A new routing algorithm for CR networks (CRN): IPSAG - IP Spectrum Aware Geographic based Routing Protocol is presented in the paper. As suggested by the name, the IP hop-by-hop, the geographic, and the spectrum aware routing concepts were used together in the protocol's design. The dynamism and flexibility, characteristic to both CR and IP networks, made us compare the CR concept with the IP concept (a wireless versus wired flexible environment comparison); thus we assumed the IP routing approach for CRN. The proposed strategy is based on hop-by-hop routing, local decisions being taken by nodes according to both local information (CR node's neighborhood) and global information (the entire topology of CRN), channels availability, and destination location.","PeriodicalId":248292,"journal":{"name":"2010 8th International Conference on Communications","volume":"76 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-06-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114061538","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Different multi-antenna methods exploit different properties of the radio channel, so in this paper, we identify, based on the channel state, the physical layer parameters that can be controlled in the attempt to satisfy the user/application requirements, with an efficient use of the available radio resources. Performance criteria considered for the evaluation are the packet error rate and the throughput. Channel state information at the transmitter provides link speed enhancement especially for high transmit diversity system and low values of the signal to noise ratio.","PeriodicalId":248292,"journal":{"name":"2010 8th International Conference on Communications","volume":"21 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-06-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114764866","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This paper aims to engender new attributes for scene description considering the relative position of the objects inside. A visual grammar of the scene is built using an extension for a Knowledge Based Image Information Mining system (KIM). The objects are extracted using statistical models and machine learning through the KIM system, according to the user interest. Further, an affine invariant descriptor of the relative position between two objects is computed. This is the force histogram and it is considered to be a spatial signature which characterizes configurations of regions based on the attraction forces between the composing objects. Thereby, new patterns could be defined using similar object configurations, in order to enhance the effectiveness of the content-based image retrieval inside large databases.","PeriodicalId":248292,"journal":{"name":"2010 8th International Conference on Communications","volume":"16 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-06-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127892747","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

According to the cooperative wireless communication (CWC) concept the active nodes may increase their effective QoS via cooperation. For cognitive radio networks, sharing of primary user's spectrum by secondary user is possible only when the QoS of the primary system is guaranteed. Cooperative diversity is a strong technique which can provide the maximum throughputs. Cooperative Opportunistic Large Array (OLA) algorithms can improve the reliability as well as the energy efficiency of the communication. Power and diversity gains can be exploited with the help of cooperative transmission in the cognitive radio. In this paper, the novel cooperative OLA approach for Cognitive Radio Networks (CRN) is proposed, which is proved to be energy efficient and scalable. With the help of OLAs, the cognitive network can be built without GPS.","PeriodicalId":248292,"journal":{"name":"2010 8th International Conference on Communications","volume":"35 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-06-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133324096","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The paper uses an image denoising method by imposing a distortion input parameter instead of threshold. The method has two steps. The first step builds a dependency, linear or nonlinear, between the final desired quality (PSNR) and the necessary parameter to select the details coefficients. The second algorithm step performs denoising based on the parameter computed on the previous step. The threshold level is computed by estimating the probability density function (PDF) of the details coefficients and having the probability of the coefficients which must be kept. Roughly, the obtained results are at better quality levels than other well known denoising methods.","PeriodicalId":248292,"journal":{"name":"2010 8th International Conference on Communications","volume":"53 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-06-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123167396","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
