This study was designed to assess the level of awareness and knowledge of local residents concerning solid waste management in Al-Nassyriah City of Iraq. Primary data were collected from local residents through questionnaire and interview. A total of 1,794 questionnaires were completed by the respondents that were randomly selected from 12 suburban areas located in Al-Nassyriah City. A descriptive cross-sectional analysis was performed among local communities and results were analyzed by using SPSS software. Results from the survey showed that 67% of respondents were dissatisfied with the current practice of solid waste management in their city. The results also showed that low-level of knowledge on relevant laws and regulations pertaining to solid waste was observed among respondents. Although half of the respondents were aware about the importance of managing solid waste, however, most of them failed to put their knowledge and awareness into practice. Therefore, extensive and continuous efforts by various stakeholders are urgently needed to enhance public awareness towards sustainable solid waste management in developing countries, particularly in Al-Nassyriah City, Iraq.","PeriodicalId":247449,"journal":{"name":"THE 2018 UKM FST POSTGRADUATE COLLOQUIUM: Proceedings of the Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia, Faculty of Science and Technology 2018 Postgraduate Colloquium","volume":"6 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-06-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116918551","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Traditional soy sauce production involve fermentation process in which lactic acid bacteria (LAB) take place at the moromi stage. Traditionally brewed soy sauce produces balance flavor, aroma and also functional preservatives that comes from the LAB activity. Thus, this study aims to discover LAB diversity in the soy sauce produced through the fermentation process. A total of 38 isolates of presumptive LAB were isolated from MRS agar by using pour plate method. Bacterial colonies with different morphological characteristics were chosen and sequential screening by Gram-staining and catalase test were conducted. Out of 38, only 5 isolates were successfully maintained their morphological characteristics through several consecutive single colony isolation. Four of the identified isolates were Lactobacillus plantarum and one isolates identified as Pediococcus spp. This study provided information on the availability of LAB community invol...","PeriodicalId":247449,"journal":{"name":"THE 2018 UKM FST POSTGRADUATE COLLOQUIUM: Proceedings of the Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia, Faculty of Science and Technology 2018 Postgraduate Colloquium","volume":"60 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-06-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130632182","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The study was conducted to determine phylogenetic relationships of Island Flying Fox ( Pteropus hypomelanu s) along the East and West Coast of the Peninsular Malaysia based on Cytochrome b sequences of mitochondrial DNA and to see the effectiveness of using this region in explaining the relationships among them. There are 29 genetic samples were collected from the several islands includes Dangli Island (Langkawi), Tioman Island (Johor), Tinggi Island (Johor), Redang Island (Terengganu) and Pangkor Island (Perak). Meanwhile, one sequences from the GeneBank represent as outgroup, Pteropus vampyrus to construct a complete phylogenetic tree. Tree topologies were built using the Neighbour Joining (NJ) and Maximum Parsimony (MP) methods. The resulting phylogenetic tree showed a clear separation between (North-West) and (South-East) population supported with 100% bootstrap value. The effectiveness of Cytochrome b has successfully resolved the phylogenetic tree when separating individuals between the populations. This study can contribute to the resolution of taxonomic and systematic problems of Island Flying Fox in Peninsular Malaysia by looking at the effectiveness of Cytochrome b region in explaining the phylogenetic relationships between the populations.","PeriodicalId":247449,"journal":{"name":"THE 2018 UKM FST POSTGRADUATE COLLOQUIUM: Proceedings of the Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia, Faculty of Science and Technology 2018 Postgraduate Colloquium","volume":"42 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-06-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132907787","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The synthesized C-dot were naturally luminescence and it has a high potential to be a biomarker in biomedical field. Bovine serum is a serum protein which were widely using in biosensor area. Therefore binding mechanisms between C-dots and BSA is important to be study. This research reported two binding methods between C-dots and BSA which is formation of covalent bond and adsorption on the surface of BSA. Ultraviolet-Visible and Fourier transformed infrared analysis shows the breaking and formation of amide bond. For the adsorption binding method, the carbonyl bond peak was still appeared after the surface was functionalized with BSA. Both the binding study shows the fluorescence properties with similar intensity. Therefore this research suggesting adsorption binding method is an environmental friendly and more favorable method.To increase the efficiency of carbon dots (C-dots), surface of C-dots were functionalized with bovine serum albumin (BSA). Innovation capability refers to the ability to create new products, processes and systems and it is crucial to organizations’ growth. Public sector organization must be able to innovate in implementing government’s policy. Many research on innovation capability and performance more focused on the private sectors but limited on public sectors. Therefore, this paper aims to provide a conceptual framework of innovation capability and performance in the public sector. This proposed conceptual framework helps Malaysian public sector organization to strengthen innovation capability in order to improve performance.","PeriodicalId":247449,"journal":{"name":"THE 2018 UKM FST POSTGRADUATE COLLOQUIUM: Proceedings of the Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia, Faculty of Science and Technology 2018 Postgraduate Colloquium","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-06-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129774255","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
