Effective recruitment, competitive compensation, and efficient training and development to retain the manpower available, has therefore become a greater challenge to the military leaders. Some of the HR practices prevalent and refined over a period of time by the Corporate sector may become relevant in the Armed forces to attract and retain the best in Armed forces.","PeriodicalId":246563,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Physical and Social Sciences","volume":"72 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133210248","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It seeks to establish the nexus between Nigeria‟s multilateral policy and international order of West Africa. This is premised on the ongoing instability in the region as a whole. As Middle East, Gulf Region, and East and South-East Asia regions are always assured of the United States' presence in the event of any conflict or instability, such assurance is not available in West Africa.West Africa is a home of 16 independent countries in the African continent. The presence of two principal colonial masters (Britain and France) has been greatly noticeable in the region from colonial days and the region generally has received scanty attention in the international order literature. Unlike the Gulf and the Middle East region, the West Africa region is unipolar in nature and it is obvious the most important actor maintaining international order is Nigeria. Given the presence of two erstwhile colonial masters in the region, the region becomes more complicated and the assertiveness of Nigeria's hegemonic role cannot complete without an historical and contemporary analysis of events in the region, most especially in relation to Nigeria's multilateral policy. This is the essence of this paper and it endeavours to produce a theoretical framework pertaining to future direction of international politics of the region and the role a regional power like Nigeria plays in maintaining peace and order. This is expedient considering the dwindling presence of global powers in regional affairs which implicitly promotes and supports the role of pivotal state in the regional order. The article adopted textual mining and latent content analysis in interpreting the existing documents, newspapers and articles while manual transcription is employed for interview conducted.","PeriodicalId":246563,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Physical and Social Sciences","volume":"7 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-07-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114432169","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A quasi experimental research design with randomization and one group pre-test and post-test was used for the study. Simple random sampling with lottery method was used to select 180 students from 3 colleges of Amritsar. 60 students were selected from each college from arts, commerce, and science streams, students are further divided in groups and each group consisted of 10 students. The data were collected using standardised Miller Fisk Sexual Knowledge Questionnaire (r=0.78) and Standardised Hendrick Sexual attitude scale (r=0.83). Human sexuality educational intervention was given to students in 3 educational sessions for 8 weeks. Findings revealed that in pre-test students had average knowledge (52.66%) and neutral attitude (54.88%) on various aspects of human sexuality issues whereas in post-test students had good knowledge (77.45%) and satisfactory attitude (72.61%) on various aspects of human sexuality issues. The paired ‘t‘ test was calculated and found that there was highly significant difference between pre-test and post-test knowledge and attitude scores. Chi-square test shows that there was no significant association between the knowledge and attitude scores with the demographic variables. Karl Pearson‘s coefficient of correlation analysis between knowledge and attitude (r = 0.42) shows significant relation, which reveals that when knowledge level increases, the attitude also will improve.","PeriodicalId":246563,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Physical and Social Sciences","volume":"35 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-02-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123490387","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The ageing scenario of Kerala is much prominent than in any other states of India. Longevity of people may be resulted in poor health status, disability and loss of functional health. Functional status is an individual's ability to perform normal daily activities required to meet basic needs, fulfill usual roles and maintain health and well-being. Functional status can be measured with Activities of Daily Living (ADL) and Instrumental Activities of Daily Living (IADL), which is a series of life functions necessary for maintaining a person's immediate environment. The aims of the present study are to distinguish the association between functional dependence and disability among elderly and to identify the various factors associated with the functional dependence of elderly. The study utilized the data from the survey, ‟Building a Knowledge Base on population Ageing in India‟. The elderly in the sample is grouped into three groups according to IADL scores. The lower score indicates greater difficulties in performing the IADL. The elderly were assessed on the different aspects of limitations and abilities to perform the IADL. Multinomial regression explains the amount of variance in IADL that can be explained by independent variables. The study indicated that elderly with some kinds of disability can do IADL by themselves, but it varies according to the type of disability and one fourth of elderly without disability have low IADL scores. It was found that marital status, living arrangements, socio-economic status and educational level of the elderly have strong bearings on the ability to perform the IADL. Problems with IADL could be closely related to subjective well being, sex and social support apart from economic variables and age. In the era of population ageing, accurate assessments of need for disability assistance are essential for effective planning of support services for the elderly.","PeriodicalId":246563,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Physical and Social Sciences","volume":"16 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122535340","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The article is divided into four parts. The first part describes global education and identifies organizations of second language educators participating in global education. The second part of the article focuses on two key areas of global education: peace education and environmental education. Next, we address questions that second language teachers frequently ask about including global education in their teaching. Lastly, we supply lists of print and electronic resources on peace education and environmental education.","PeriodicalId":246563,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Physical and Social Sciences","volume":"12 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1999-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130799267","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
