The research conducted within Australia has been focused within universities, complemented by work within the government defence agency. The research ranges from the development of new sensor principles and mechanisms, to the application of these sensors. The private sector has begun to appreciate the potential of optical fibre sensors to solve specific measurement problems and Australian-based measurement solutions are available commercially. Within Australia optical fibre sensors are being applied in areas such as structural health monitoring, the electrical power industry, various defence applications, and medicine.","PeriodicalId":244615,"journal":{"name":"ACOFT/AOS 2006 - Australian Conference on Optical Fibre Technology/Australian Optical Society","volume":"93 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2006-07-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115360553","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The laser was focused by two methods that are single lens and two lenses. The optical breakdown and the plasma formation were visualized using CCD camera in conjunction with the high-speed photography system. Sensitive paper was employed as target material. Single pulse laser was exposed on the target and the damage was examined by metallurgical method. The results obtained indicated that the size of plasma slightly increases with the laser energy. The configuration of the plasma was found in an ellipse shape and produced an irregular pattern of damage with a single lens technique. On the other hand an oval shape of plasma was appeared and symmetrical circular pattern of damage was generated with the two lenses system.","PeriodicalId":244615,"journal":{"name":"ACOFT/AOS 2006 - Australian Conference on Optical Fibre Technology/Australian Optical Society","volume":"41 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2006-07-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122696088","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
