Two-stage evaporation system can indirectly increase the contact area of water and vapor, reduce the volume of single evaporation system, and can also combine the multiple systems flexibly. So a new type of small scale two-stage photovoltaic-photothermal humidification-dehumidification (HDH) desalination system is designed, and the relationship between solar radiation and temperature is measured, and the water production capability of the system is investigated. The effect of water temperature, ambient temperature, air flow rate and air temperature on desalination performance is also investigated. The results showed that the rate of water production is positively correlated with sea water temperature, ambient temperature, gas flow rate and air temperature. And the gas temperature is positively correlated with the solar radiation intensity. When the ambient temperature is higher than 25 ℃, the cumulative amount of irradiation is 22.3 MJ/m2, the cumulative water production is 19.2 L/d, and 6.4 L/( m2∙d), the thermal efficiency is 0.66. In this paper, based on the critical state theory, the state-dependent dilatancy theory of rockfills is established, and it is introduced into the state-dependent constitutive model of coarse materials, so the state-dependent constitutive model of rockfills is formulated. According to the large-scale triaxial testing results, using the Fortran program modelling the experimental results, then, comparing the test results and simulation results, only one set parameters of state-dependent constitutive model of rockfills can reflect the strain softening and dilatancy properties of rockfills under the condition of different density, gradation and confining pressure. This research mainly aims to determine the impact of using waste materials, such as crushed glass, crushed marble, and burned wood in powder form, as partial replacements for cement on the compressive strength of concrete. Mechanical properties (e.g., compressive strength) and physical properties (e.g., workability and unit weight) were investigated. The powdered waste materials (after passing through sieve #200) were partially replaced with cement by ratios of 10%, 20%, and 30%. Compressive strength was tested on the 7th, 28th, and 56th days. Results showed that workability decreased as the partial replacement level of glass powder, marble powder, and timber ash increased. The codes in different countries appoint different pseudo-static seismic coefficient. The present work list different seismic coefficients in Russian, Chinese and European codes. A sensitivity analysis of a case slope was carried out using GeoStudio, then determined that the stability of the slope is more sensitive to material cohesion and seismic coefficient than material density and friction angle. Based on meteorological and hydrological data of the Wenjiachuan hydrologic station from 1955 to 2015, the paper studied the variation tendency, the abrupt and periodic changes of annual runoff using the Mann-Kendall non-parametric test and accumulation anomaly curve. Double mass curve was used to estimate the impact of human activities and climate change on the runoff variation. The curve of seasonal runoff distribution for Wenjiachuan station appeared two peak patterns. The annual runoff declined markedly, the effect of climate on runoff decreased, the influence of human activities on runoff gradually increased the human activities are the primary factors leading to the reduction of annual runoff. In this research, water quality parameters i.e. total dissolved solids (TDS), sodium absorption rate (SAR), electrical conductivity (EC), Na+, Cl-, CO32-, K+, Mg2+, Ca2+, pH, HCO3- and SO42- during 2010-2011 were obtained from Iranian Water Resources Research Institute in water quality measurement stations on Mazandaran province, Iran. Then, the most important catchment characteristics (area, mean slope, mean height, base flow index, annual rainfall, land cover, and geology) were determined on water quality parameters using stepwise regression via backwards method in the 63 selected rivers. The results showed that sodium absorption rate (SAR), total dissolved solids (TDS), electrical conductivity (EC), Na+ and Cl- parameters are strongly linked to geology characteristics, while K+, Mg2+ and Ca2+ cations is linked to rainfall and geology characteristics. pH and HCO3- are related to area, rainfall, land cover and geology characteristics, CO32- is related to area, rainfall, rangeland area and geology characteristics and SO42- is related to area, rainfall, range and bar land area and geology characteristics. Adaptive Neuro-Fuzzy Inference System (ANFIS) was used for modeling the selected catchment characteristics and water quality parameters. The study was prompted by the continuing challenge of work- related accidents in the construction industry. Even with the measurable safety improvements in the last several decades, the construction industry still exhibits high rate of occupational fatal injuries compared to other industries. A linear regression model was developed using Microsoft Excel to determine the level of impact of the number of training hours on the resulting safety performance. The analysis confirmed that the number of training hours had a strong impact on reducing safety incidents. The coefficient of determination (R2) demonstrated that the number of training hours accounted for 81% of the variance in the incidents rate. The performance of thirty rubberised concrete-filled single-skin steel tubes under combined loading conditions were systematically investigated and comparisons against six steel hollow tubular columns and beams were made. The experimental program consisted of three rubber replacement ratios, 0%, 15% and 30%, three load eccentricities and four tube sections with section slenderness (b/t, width/thickness) of 18 to 50. The results showed that the confined rubberised concrete and the restrained steel tube improved strength and ductility of the composite section. The rubberised concrete was more effective in delaying the premature buckling failure of the steel tube compared to the more brittle normal concrete. The rubberised concrete with 15% rubber replacement ratio showed a good balance of strength and ductility. The interaction diagrams obtained from the experiments and theoretical calculations were constructed and compared. The behaviours of the rubberised concrete filled steel tubes could be accurately predicted using existing design guidelines and safe designs can be produced. A threshold price is the upper limit of the bid price, and a contractor who exceeds this threshold is disqualified. Furthermore, based on the threshold price, a minimum price is set as a price requiring investigation before acceptance. In recent years, bids and contracts for public works have generally had bid prices concentrated slightly above the standard minimum for investigation. It has been pointed out that this tendency is detrimental in terms of the motivation of engineers and social costs. In this study, we confirm that this tendency was alleviated and that the level of the winning bidder's technical evaluation score was feasible at the same time. In addition, we obtained quantitative findings on variables that affect both above. {"title":"Anti-adherent Molds Yield Hydraulic Concrete Samples Suitable for Assessments of Surface and Water Absorption","authors":"Ernesto Mora, E. It is ubiquitous the use of cubic metallic molds of volume 125 cm3; these molds require the application of demolding substances (such as oils) on their surfaces to avoid the adhesion of the final hardened concrete sample to the molds. Despite this common practice suitable for evaluating mechanical traits of the materials, the use of a demolding agent spoils the concrete samples for the assessment of surface and water absorption parameters. To overcome this difficulty, we propose a new anti-adherent cubic mold that requires no demolding agent. The construction of the new mold based on anti-adherent polytetrafluoroethene (PTFE, Teflon®) is described with its use. To assess the claimed advantages of the new anti-adherent molds in testing surface and water diffusion traits of concrete samples, experiments on water contact angles, rates of water absorption and drying were performed on concrete specimens obtained with the classic and the new PTFE molds. It was proved the advantage of the anti-adherent mold over common metallic molds.
