In this study, we collected data from January 2019 to September 2021, and human–wolf conflict and mitigation measures were investigated by interviews with 200 shepherds that were randomly selected from 43 different human settlements. We used binary logistic GLM models to predict landscape features related to gray wolf conflict patterns. Over the 3 years of the study, the gray wolf was responsible for 963 livestock losses and 244.50 million rupees (1,381,388.14 USD) in economic loss in summer, and 798 livestock losses along with 169.31 million rupees (956,608.1356 USD) economic loss in winter for the same 200 shepherds in Shigar valley. Shafer","doi":"10.1002/wll2.12024","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.1002/wll2.12024","url":null,"abstract":"This review explores whether recent hybridization events between polar bears (Ursus maritimus) and grizzly bears (Ursus arctos horribilis) will eventually contribute to the extinction of the modern polar bear. In April 2006, genetic analysis of an odd‐looking bear killed in the Northwest Territories, Canada, revealed this specimen to be a polar bear–grizzly bear hybrid, and additional hybrid bears were harvested beginning in April 2010. These events have been sensationalized by some in the media, who have speculated that the modern polar bear may become extinct due to crossbreeding with grizzly bears. Although studies support the introgression of brown bear genes into the polar bear genome during the Pleistocene, no evidence supports the occurrence of a similar event today. Even if such an introgression event occurred, hybrids evolving rapidly enough to adapt to ongoing sea ice depletion is not scientifically plausible. The loss of genetic integrity and modified morphology due to inbreeding between polar bears and grizzly bears are not considered threats to polar bear survival. Coyotes (Canis latrans) have expanded their geographic distributions from the western United States (US) to the Eastern US, potentially suppressing some prey populations as their relative abundance has increased. To assess the relationship between coyotes and one of their prey, the eastern wild turkey (Meleagris gallopavo silvestris), we employed time series analysis and multivariate autoregressive state‐space models (MARSSMs) to a 23‐year capture per unit effort data set from both species in the state of Mississippi, US. The best MARSSM model indicated density dependence in each species. The competing MARSSM indicated that increases in coyote relative abundance reduced the population growth rate of wild turkeys. However, there is a need to increase the dispersal of Amur tigers further from the border as the region is not large enough to support the sustainable survival of the population. In the winter of 2012–2015 and January 2022, we tracked 38 Amur tiger snow traces and performed line transect and camera trap surveys in Hunchun to assess Amur tiger movements in response to the landscape and its permeability at fine scales. Our results showed that towns, shrubs, and forest roads are the main factors influencing Amur tiger movements. Furthermore, tiger paths were characterized by lower tortuosity in preferred habitats.
