The findings suggest that when a firm has a siblings-chairperson, the firm has a better CSR rating than a firm with a chairperson having no siblings. The conclusions are robust to a regression discontinuity research design. Additional analysis suggests that the mechanisms behind siblings and CSR are consistent with both competition and altruistic effects among siblings. Further analysis suggests that the positive impact of a siblings-chairperson on the CSR rating of firms is more salient when the local familism culture is stronger, when government official career advancement incentives are lower, or when the siblings are directors or CEOs of other firms.","PeriodicalId":243344,"journal":{"name":"PsychRN: Leadership & Management (Topic)","volume":"36 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-10-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129204244","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Using hand-collected data, we document that when a firm has a sibling-chairperson, it holds more patents, receives more total citations to their patents, and has greater innovation efficiency and innovation quality than an otherwise equivalent firm with a chairperson with no siblings. The results are economically significant and robust to a battery of alternative methods. Specifically, the findings remain intact after using China’s one-child policy as an exogenous shock to apply a regression discontinuity research design to mitigate endogeneity. Additional analysis suggests that the mechanisms behind the impact of siblings on innovation are consistent with family-based human capital embedded in the sibling relationships such as competition and knowledge spillover among siblings. Furthermore, we show that sibling co-management, sibling gender diversity, and siblings’ collaborative behavior matter in corporate innovation. Overall, family-based human capital from siblings impacts corporate innovation.","PeriodicalId":243344,"journal":{"name":"PsychRN: Leadership & Management (Topic)","volume":"39 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-10-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115778300","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Unlike the existing literature concentrating on CEO optimism, this paper measures the overconfidence of all top executives from their options holding decisions and the overprediction of Earnings-per-Share (EPS) in self-reported guidance. Using a panel data on S&P 1500 index constituent firms from 1992 to 2016, I find that the overconfidence level of both individual executives (CEOs, CFOs and other executives) and the entire management team negatively influence credit ratings. Moreover, I show that managerial overconfidence limits the positive effect of profitability on the creditworthiness, and different proxies have different implications on ratings received by investment-grade firms and speculative-grade firms. The findings highlight the importance of managerial “soft” information in Credit Rating Agencies (CRAs)' decision making process.","PeriodicalId":243344,"journal":{"name":"PsychRN: Leadership & Management (Topic)","volume":"26 10 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115689127","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Si les fondements de l’economie financiere ont ete poses par des economistes americains dans les annees 1960 et 1970, ces idees ont ete introduites en France entre la seconde moitie des annees 1970 et le debut des annees 1980 principalement par des gestionnaires francais formes au Canada et aux Etats-Unis. Cet article expose de quelle maniere ces gestionnaires ont introduit et structure ce domaine en France tant au niveau scientifique que pratique. Outre l’analyse de publications et d’archives, cet article s’appuie sur des informations collectees par un sondage et des entrevues aupres des principaux acteurs francais de cette periode. Il utilise egalement une base de donnees originale construite a partir des documents de travail du Centre d’Enseignement Superieur des Affaires, et des donnees statistiques originales compilees a partir de documents de l’European Institute for Advanced Studies in Management. Cet article presente trois principaux resultats. Premierement, les gestionnaires francais ont beneficie d’un contexte favorable pour introduire la recherche en economie financiere. Deuxiemement, a cette epoque les contributions des gestionnaires francais consistent principalement en une application des modeles americains de la finance de marche « mainstream » aux donnees francaises grâce a la creation de bases de donnees informatiques. Troisiemement, les gestionnaires francais ont largement contribue a la performativite de l’economie financiere en France.","PeriodicalId":243344,"journal":{"name":"PsychRN: Leadership & Management (Topic)","volume":"5 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-07-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121925263","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This test used the village government’s managerial performance as the dependent variable, transactional leadership style and transformational leadership style as independent variables, and motivation as a mediating variable. The sample employed was the village government apparatus in Sleman Regency, Indonesia, utilizing a convenience sampling method. The data type used in this study was the primary data. Based on the distributing questionnaires’ process obtained a sample of 102 respondents. Hypothesis testing in this study employed simple regression and multiple regression using SPSS v.15 software applications. The results showed that transactional leadership style, transformational leadership style, and motivation positively influenced the village government’s managerial performance. Meanwhile, motivation could not mediate the relationship between leadership style and managerial performance.","PeriodicalId":243344,"journal":{"name":"PsychRN: Leadership & Management (Topic)","volume":"43 3 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-02-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123607830","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this study, we explained how character strengths affect self, leader, and work-related outcomes. For this, we proposed a theoretical framework modifying Sosik et. al. (2019) model to incorporate Empowering leadership, and Leader Self-confidence as an outcome and moderator, respectively. We hypothesize that Moral character strength like 1. Honesty, 2. Empathy, and 3. Moral courage leads to ethical leadership (EL). This role is further complemented by Leaders’ Self-control and self-confidence. Meaning higher self-control and confidence would strengthen the effect of character strength on ethical leadership. EL would consequently make the leader more Psychological flourishing, and Empowering, as well as make their In-role performance better. Empirical validity was established by conducting a survey using a close-ended questionnaire. Data was collected from 350 corporate employees (director/manager, subordinates, superiors) and analyzed using confirmatory factor analysis and structured equation modeling. The result suggested that honesty and empathy have a positive impact on EL. Moreover, leaders’ self-confidence has a significant positive effect on EL, but negatively moderate the effect of honesty on ethical leadership. Meaning higher self-confidence leaders have a lesser effect of honesty on EL. EL, in turn, seems to positively affect all three outcomes i.e. Psychological flourishing, Empowering, and In-role performance. Hence, Ethical leadership seems to mediate the effect of empathy, honesty, and self-confidence on all three outcomes. We discuss the implications of these results for future theory development, research, and practice.","PeriodicalId":243344,"journal":{"name":"PsychRN: Leadership & Management (Topic)","volume":"23 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-12-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115701109","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Trustees' characteristics should not affect their investment decisions. We find two counterfactual artefacts for corporate pension funds. First, a higher average board age lowers the strategic allocation to equity by 7 percentage points after controlling for the pension fund's characteristics. This way the strategic asset allocation does not fully reflect the beneficiaries' characteristics. Second, pension funds with a greater representation of employers on the board allocate more to equities. This fosters a principal-agent problem between employer trustees and beneficiaries.","PeriodicalId":243344,"journal":{"name":"PsychRN: Leadership & Management (Topic)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125501302","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Gregor, Beatrice Michaeli","doi":"10.2139/ssrn.3730297","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.2139/ssrn.3730297","url":null,"abstract":"A CEO who is an empire-builder reports information about an investment opportunity (\"project\"). Before approving or rejecting the project, a board of directors decides whether and how much additional information to collect, i.e., whether to remain rationally inattentive. We find that the CEO prepares and communicates a report that is just sufficiently precise so as to persuade the board not to learn any additional information and to approve some value-destroying projects (type-I error). The informativeness of the report is increasing in the misalignment of interests between the board and the CEO. Because more informative reports reduce the probability of approval error, the shareholders may optimally assemble a board that is \"unfriendly\" to the CEO. Our results predict that (i) board-dependence regulations lead to decrease in corporate investments but an increase in return to shareholders; (ii) the return on investment is lower in companies with busy directors operating in less mature industries; (iii) the conflict of interests between boards and CEOs is either mild or moderately strong and the likelihood of strong conflict is lower in companies with busy directors and companies operating in mature industries or industries with attractive outside opportunities for directors.","PeriodicalId":243344,"journal":{"name":"PsychRN: Leadership & Management (Topic)","volume":"54 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-02-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124512765","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
