These techniques address the main issues of the implementation of model predictive control in a direct matrix converter, namely the high computational cost, the adequate selection of weighting factors and the variable switching frequency which could produce resonances in the input filter. The techniques are based on the fictitious dc-link concept, which has been used in the past for the classical modulation and control techniques of the direct matrix converter. Simulated results confirm the feasibility of the proposal demonstrating that it is an alternative to classical predictive control strategies for the direct matrix converter.","PeriodicalId":243099,"journal":{"name":"2017 International Symposium on Power Electronics (Ee)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-12-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123737194","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Controlling these norms can drag a system from a stable to an unstable operating condition. Therefore, finding a control variable that has a direct linear relation with these norms will facilitate the utilisation of data-driven control principles to build a control system based on small-signal impedance. For a STATCOM connected to a power network, the control system parameters of the STATCOM are tested to identify their relationships with the stability norms. Different types of virtual impedance are tested, and the suitability of each virtual impedance type and connection is examined and presented.","PeriodicalId":243099,"journal":{"name":"2017 International Symposium on Power Electronics (Ee)","volume":"86 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-10-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126006448","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This paper proposes a new solution to control such plants, which is a combination of discrete-time first-order sliding mode (SM) control and discrete-time realization of super twisting control algorithm (STA) that is commonly used in second-order SM. A brief mathematical foundation of the proposed controller is given and then demonstrated in induction motor (IM) speed control as an example. A comparative study between conventional PI controller, discretized original STA and the proposed combined STA in tracking of various speed references under action of disturbances. Simulation and experimental results confirm that the proposed simply designed controller provides high quality performance.","PeriodicalId":243099,"journal":{"name":"2017 International Symposium on Power Electronics (Ee)","volume":"8 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122208316","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This is achieved by multiplying machine phase variables with VSD matrix. However, creation of VSD matrix is usually considered only for a specific machine configuration, i.e. symmetrical or asymmetrical. Moreover, available research on VSD modelling techniques produces the same or very similar VSD matrix for a considered machine type. This paper proposes a simple algorithm for creation of VSD matrix for asymmetrical machines. It is further extended to cover symmetrical configurations as well. Examples are provided for some of the most frequently used asymmetrical multiphase machines, 6-, 9-and 12-phase. In addition, as a special case, a 15-phase machine has been considered as well. Its stator windings can consist of five 3-phase winding sets or three 5-phase ones. Obtained transformations are verified by comparison with those found in the literature and confirmed using numerical simulations and experimental results.","PeriodicalId":243099,"journal":{"name":"2017 International Symposium on Power Electronics (Ee)","volume":"36 4 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"117324530","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This system consists of the transmitter and the receiver which are connected via only single-wire. The Tesla's transformer is used in both the transmitter and the receiver. The electric energy was transmitted through the spatial electric field between the transmitter and the receiver. In this paper, the lumped-parameter circuit model of the SWPT system was built according to the current type and its rout. Based on the proposed model, the guideline of operation frequency selection was addressed and the transmission ratio was expressed analytically. Two SWPT systems with different scaled Tesla's transformers were designed and demonstrated in experiments. The experimental results for these two SWPT systems showed the capability of power transmission in 2m distance with 40W power and 66.7% efficiency and in 30m distance with 100W power and 10% efficiency, respectively.","PeriodicalId":243099,"journal":{"name":"2017 International Symposium on Power Electronics (Ee)","volume":"39 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115479800","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this paper, we propose modifications to the synchronverter algorithm to improve its stability and performance. The proposed modifications are implemented in software and do not require any changes in the inverter hardware. The first two modifications concern the control of the virtual field current in the synchronverter to make it more robust to faults. The next modification is to increase the effective size of the filter inductors virtually. This is well-motivated theoretically, using results from the stability analysis of synchronous generators connected to a AC power grid, and also by practical considerations: it dramatically improves the response of converter to an imbalance in the grid. This modification necessitates a change in the formula for the (virtual) nominal active mechanical torque. The third modification is to split the frequency droop loop into a low-pass and a high-pass branch, with a saturation on the low-pass branch, to ensure that the synchronverter is not required to supply or absorb active power exceeding physically possible values. We demonstrate the efficacy of our modifications using both simulations and experiments.","PeriodicalId":243099,"journal":{"name":"2017 International Symposium on Power Electronics (Ee)","volume":"12 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"117354065","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The objective function takes into account the most important characteristics of the network such as topology, non-uniform failure rates of the lines as well as the power demand and number of customers. For seeking the minimum of the objective function, a straightforward algorithm based on the Pattern Search (PS) is developed. The methodology is tested on a real distribution network, showing its great potential to improve the reliability indices at the lowest investment costs.","PeriodicalId":243099,"journal":{"name":"2017 International Symposium on Power Electronics (Ee)","volume":"6 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129066788","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

To interface such systems with high voltage DC bus, a high gain converter is needed. Moreover, power generated by the PV systems is non-uniform most of the time. Therefore, for this purpose, a battery port is mandatory. Hence, for this application a high gain multi port converter is suitable candidate that increases conversion efficiency with a reduced cost. In this work, a high gain multi port bidirectional DC to DC converter for the DC microgrid application is proposed. Proposed converter has three ports. One for the power source, the second for the battery, the third for the high voltage DC Bus. Converter is analyzed in boost/battery discharging and buck/battery charging mode. Detailed theoretical analysis and operation of the converter is presented. The proposed converter has inter source and bidirectional power flow capability. A gain comparison is performed with its previous counterpart converters. A 744 W converter is simulated in the Matlab to validate the theoretical and operational analysis of the converter. Experimental results are performed using the developed prototype converter and dSPACE (DS-1104) controller.","PeriodicalId":243099,"journal":{"name":"2017 International Symposium on Power Electronics (Ee)","volume":"64 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132149468","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
