The proposed integrated protection concept was developed on the basis of a nonlinear mathematical transformer model which includes nonlinear effects of saturation, hysteresis and eddy currents. The protection algorithm includes a percentage differential relay with harmonic restraint at inrush and overexcitation conditions, an overcurrent relay with instantaneous and time-lag operation, a sensitive relay for selective operation at high-impedance ground faults and a fault recorder. The protection algorithm was implemented on powerful signal processor. Presented are the results of real-time laboratory and field testing which include the comparison of the standard static protection performance with the proposed digital one in relation to speed and accuracy.","PeriodicalId":241767,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings. In these cases the problem is characterized as a quasi-static bifurcation occuring in response to a slowly varying increase or decrease in load. However, dynamic load characteristics have long been known to have an effect on system stability and in fact, assumptions about the load model will significantly affect any predictions. In this paper, we discuss voltage stabilities as a function of the load model. We investigate the stability characteristics of a simple basic configuration consisting of a generator, a static load, and an aggregate dynamic representation. We then describe an approach to controlling voltage dynamics by using a simple representation of a static VAr compensator as the control mechanism and applying a pointwise control strategy as the algorithm for implementing the control.","PeriodicalId":241767,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings. With increase in load, any power system model suffers from disturbances. These disturbances effect the overall stability of the system. Criterias like voltage profile, power flows, losses tell us about the state of the system under study. Load flow analysis under study is capable of providing the insight of the system. Static var compensator is one of the methods and can be applied to obtain a system with least losses, increased power flow and healthy voltage profile. Number, location and size of Static var compensator are the main concerns and they can be optimized to a great extent by Genetic Algorithm. Use of Static var compensator in system has shown considerable increase in voltage profile and power flows while decrease in losses.","PeriodicalId":241767,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings.
