Structural classification labels a point in the cloud as a point-, line-, or surface-type feature. An additional outcome of this classification is the geometry-preserving downsampling of the point cloud. The contextual classification, on the other hand, labels the points in four classes, namely, buildings, vegetation, natural ground, and asphalt ground, by using data derived from the raw input, which includes the structural classification. Preserving these two classifications in the labeling of the points gives a geometry-aware contextual semantic labeling. We propose: (a) an augmented semantic classification which preserves both structural and contextual classification, (b) an interactive hierarchical clustering method for contextual classification, and (c) an interactive visual analytic framework to aid both the structural and contextual classifications.","PeriodicalId":241302,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 23rd SIGSPATIAL International Conference on Advances in Geographic Information Systems","volume":"151 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-11-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122432321","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The most advanced of these systems predict the travel time of the routes, given past traffic patterns in order to find the best route. However, the best route is not necessarily a reliable route as well, i.e., the route with the least variation in possible travel times. The most reliable route is desirable when traveling with a deadline, e.g., to reach a flight at the airport or to arrive on time for an important meeting. To find the most reliable route, one needs to predict the probability distribution of travel times for that route. This in turn requires the estimation of travel time probability distributions for each and every link, given a link-entrance-time. In this paper we address the problem of computing these link travel time distributions. To the best of our knowledge there has not been any study on how to compute probability distributions for links (/edges) in road networks. We show how this first step can affect the accuracy of the travel time distribution over the entire route. Our final challenge is to evaluate the result of different approaches in computing these travel time distributions, which is difficult because the reported travel time is not a single value but a probabilistic distribution highly depending on the trip start time. We thus propose a statistical test that enables us to evaluate these outcomes.","PeriodicalId":241302,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 23rd SIGSPATIAL International Conference on Advances in Geographic Information Systems","volume":"96 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-11-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122969772","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The need for systems such as STAC becomes critical when participants of crowd sensing applications hesitate to share their locations due to privacy concerns. In such applications, STAC enables effective task assignment capabilities without compromising the location privacy of workers and volunteers. STAC implements novel algorithms that handle uncertain task assignment, which is a challenging problem involving uncertain locations of participants as a result of location cloaking. We will demonstrate, from both synthetic and real data, that our methods achieve high sensing coverage with low cost using cloaked participant locations. We will also demonstrate a location-based mobile Q&A application that utilizes STAC for task assignment.","PeriodicalId":241302,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 23rd SIGSPATIAL International Conference on Advances in Geographic Information Systems","volume":"42 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-11-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128069065","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Cohesion queries find applications in various settings, such as facility location problems, location-based services. For example, when attractors represent favorable plases, e.g., tourist attractions, and repellers denote undesirable locations, e.g., competitor stores, the cohesion query would return the ideal location, among a database of possible options, to open a new store. These queries are not trivial to process as the best location, unlike aggregate nearest or farthest neighbor queries, may be far from the optimal point in space. Therefore, to achieve sub-linear performance in practice, we employ novel best-first search and branch and bound paradigms that take advantage of the geometrical interpretation of the problem. Our methods are up to orders of magnitude faster than linear scan and adaptations of existing aggregate nearest/farthest neighbor algorithms.","PeriodicalId":241302,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 23rd SIGSPATIAL International Conference on Advances in Geographic Information Systems","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-11-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130706069","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this paper we focus on a specific data-intensive problem concerning the repeated processing of huge amounts of k nearest neighbours (k-NN) queries over massive sets of moving objects, where the spatial extents of queries and the position of objects are continuously modified over time. In particular, we propose a novel hybrid CPU/GPU pipeline that significantly accelerate query processing thanks to a combination of ad-hoc data structures and non-trivial memory access patterns. To the best of our knowledge this is the first work that exploits GPUs to efficiently solve repeated k-NN queries over massive sets of continuously moving objects, even characterized by highly skewed spatial distributions. In comparison with state-of-the-art sequential CPU-based implementations, our method highlights significant speedups in the order of 10x-20x, depending on the datasets, even when considering cheap GPUs.","PeriodicalId":241302,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 23rd SIGSPATIAL International Conference on Advances in Geographic Information Systems","volume":"128 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-11-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133134176","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The system, named CO2NNIE, estimates the fuel consumption on the fastest route between the frequent destinations of the user. The travel time and fuel consumption estimated are based on 3.8 billion GPS records from 16 thousand cars and 198 million records from 218 cars annotated with fuel consumption data, respectively. The fuel consumption estimates from the system are validated using fuel-pump data. We find that estimates have good accuracy, i.e., are generally within 10% of the actual fuel consumption (4.6% deviation on average). We conclude, that the system provides new detailed information on CO2 emissions and fuel consumption for any make and model.","PeriodicalId":241302,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 23rd SIGSPATIAL International Conference on Advances in Geographic Information Systems","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-11-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130904666","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

As the demand for taxis changes with space and time, it is important to model both the space and temporal dimensions in dynamic booking data. Several applications can benefit from a good taxi booking model. These include the prediction of number of bookings at certain location and time of the day, and the detection of anomalous booking events. In this paper, we propose a Grid-based Gaussian Mixture Model (GGMM) with spatio-temporal dimensions that groups booking data into a number of spatio-temporal clusters by observing the bookings occurring at different time of the day in each spatial grid cell. Using a large-scale real-world dataset consisting of over millions of booking records, we show that GGMM outperforms two strong baselines: a Gaussian Mixture Model (GMM) and the state-of-the-art spatio-temporal behavior model, Periodic Mobility Model (PMM), in estimating the spatio-temporal distribution of bookings at specific grid cells during specific time intervals. GGMM can achieve up to 95.8% (96.5%) reduction in perplexity compared against GMM (PMM). Further, we apply GGMM to detect anomalous bookings and successfully relate the anomalies with some known events, demonstrating GGMM's effectiveness in this task.","PeriodicalId":241302,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 23rd SIGSPATIAL International Conference on Advances in Geographic Information Systems","volume":"27 2 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-11-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131033680","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Although they allow some customization (like \"avoid highways\" or \"avoid tolls\"), the choices are very limited and require some sophistication on the part of the user. In this paper we present, implement, and test a framework that generates personalized driving directions by automatically analyzing users' GPS traces. Our approach learns cost functions using coordinate descent, leveraging a state-of-the-art route planning engine for efficiency. In an extensive experimental study, we show that this framework infers user-specific driving preferences, significantly improving the route quality. Our approach can handle continental-sized inputs (with tens of millions of vertices and arcs) and is efficient enough to be run on an autonomous device (such as a car navigation system) preserving user privacy.","PeriodicalId":241302,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 23rd SIGSPATIAL International Conference on Advances in Geographic Information Systems","volume":"20 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-11-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123530135","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, returning only the shortest path is often not satisfying; users are also interested in alternative paths which might be longer but have other advantages, e.g., less frequent traffic congestion. In this paper, we formally introduce the k-Shortest Paths with Limited Overlap (k-SPwLO) problem seeking to recommend k alternative paths which are (a) as short as possible and (b) sufficiently dissimilar based on a user-controlled similarity threshold. We propose two algorithms that examine the paths from a source s to a target t in increasing order of their length and progressively construct the result set. The baseline algorithm BSL builds upon a standard algorithm for computing k-Shortest Paths, followed by a filter step. The OnePass algorithm considers the overlap constraint in each expansion step while traversing the network. We evaluate the performance of both algorithms on real road networks and show that OnePass always outperforms BSL.","PeriodicalId":241302,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 23rd SIGSPATIAL International Conference on Advances in Geographic Information Systems","volume":"5 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-11-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124467350","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
