Biological parameter of Lipid peroxidation is malondialdehyde. Hence present study was conducted to evaluate effect of turmeric on increased lipid peroxidation by using serum malondialdehyde levels & as a surrogate outcome on clinical signs & symptoms of oral submucous fibrosis (OSMF). Methods: In this study 270 subjects of which 30 were suffering from OSMF on turmeric with counseling them about stoppage of habit (group A), 30 subjects suffering from OSMF on turmeric without counseling them about stoppage of habit (group B), 30 subjects suffering from OSMF counseled for stoppage of habit but without turmeric medication (group C), 90 cases which were betel-nut habitual without OSMF (group D), 90 cases healthy control group (group E). Results: Statistically significant reduction in Serum MDA levels post treatment group A patients as compared to group B & group C (p<0.05). Mean difference was observed as 9.00 in group A, 3.81 in group B, 2.62 in group C. Conclusion: Increased serum MDA in OSMF can be used as an important marker in early diagnosis, treatment, prognosis and for prevention and clinical intervention of the disease. The antioxidant properties of turmeric reduce the oxidative stress even with effects of areca alkaloids. Serum MDA level was decreased in subjects taking turmeric medication for the period of 4 weeks","PeriodicalId":240291,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Dentistry Research","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-05-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124388224","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The disadvantage of direct composite restorations is the formation of dental anatomical structures that require operator skills so that they can optimally restore tooth occlusion. Case report: Case 1: A 21-year-old female patient with D4 caries, Site 1 size 2 on tooth number 37 and the patient's dental diagnosis was Reversible Pulpitis. The patient was treated with a composite restoration using the stamp technique. Case 2: A 50-year-old male the patient with D5 caries, Site 1 Size 2 on tooth number 46 and patient’s dental diagnosis was Irreversible Pulpitis. The patient was treated with a composite restoration using the pizza technique. Conclusion: Stamp technique is indicated for hidden caries in pits and fissures or proximal parts of the tooth with intact anatomical forms. The pizza technique can be used in caries with incomplete anatomical forms but requires operator skills to form biomimetic dental anatomy.","PeriodicalId":240291,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Dentistry Research","volume":"88 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-05-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124522519","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The principle based on auricular acupuncture/acupressure is the yin and yang energy through which the organ in our body gains stability. If the yin and yang energy is not stable disease occurs. The role of auricular acupuncture/acupressure for smoking cessation has much less review of literature to prove its effectiveness. Aim: To assess the effectiveness of auricular acupuncture/acupressure as one of the intervention for smoking cessation. Study Design: A systematic review of controlled trials and pilot study was performed. Electronic and hand search retrieved 583 records, 288 were screened. The intervention and outcomes were assessed in the study included for systematic review. Results: Five studies were included in our systematic reviews which were randomized control trials and pilot studies. There were studies performed in different countries. Among the five trials, two were found statistically significant, but further studies should be done to prove the effectiveness of auricular acupressure for smoking cessation. We were not able to conduct Meta-analysis due to clinical heterogeneity among the study design and difference occurred in reporting of data. Conclusion: There is a lack of evidence to show the effectiveness of auricular acupuncture/acupressure for Smoking cessation, so further pilot studies and control trials should be done to evaluate the effectiveness of auricular acupuncture /acupressure.","PeriodicalId":240291,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Dentistry Research","volume":"53 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-08-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126766856","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Cooks and bakers rely on it for baking and for soup thickener but in dentistry the appropriate mixture in weight and volume of starch, water, glycerin and ethyl alcohol forms separating medium. A separating medium prevents direct contact between the denture based resin and the model surface. This study aimed at production of dental separating medium using tapioca extracted from Manihot exculenta in Enugu, Nigeria. The research was carried out between August and September, 2018 in Enugu, Nigeria. The study adopted a three phased experimental approach using the same procedures but different weight and volume compositions. Structured, pretested Product Evaluation Data Sheet was used to evaluate the product by selected Practicing Dental Technologists in Enugu State, Nigeria. The resultant separating medium from experiment III with the following composition: starch flour 1200g, glycerin 500ml, ethyl alcohol 500ml, colorant 500ml and 4000ml of distilled (hot and cold) water. There was significant agreement among the respondents in the flow ability of the product 8(40%); excellent product effectiveness 8 (40%); smoothness 8 (40%), and color stability of the product 10 (50%). These findings suggests that dental separating medium can be produced locally in Enugu, Nigeria. Therefore, more attention needs to be paid in the production process, which will facilitate easy practice of Dental Technology, and also conserve huge foreign exchange being spent in the importation of separating medium in Nigeria.","PeriodicalId":240291,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Dentistry Research","volume":"176 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-08-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116506054","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, the accuracy of the removable or fixed superstructures over the dental implants is influenced for a major proportion by the impression techniques and materials. This paper discusses the comparison of the accuracy of different impression materials and techniques used in the second stage of the dental implant treatment in vivo. Objective: The objective of the paper is to study the comparison of the accuracy of different impression materials and techniques used in the second stage of the dental implant’s treatment in vivo. Search methodology: Electronically key searched in scientific literature databases. Selection criteria: Based on the set inclusion and exclusion criteria such as studies conducted in partial edentulous arches, in the age group of 30 to 55 years. Data collection and analysis: A total of 248 literatures were found to be relevant to the framed topic and were scrutinised based on the dejected criteria and 18 kinds of literature obtained were taken into consideration. Main Result: Among the different impression materials taken into the comparative study, it was observed that polyvinyl siloxane exhibited a dimensional accuracy slightly greater than polyether. However, light body putty exhibited greater accuracy than medium body putty. Various impression techniques were compared to evaluate the dimensional accuracy of the impression. It was observed that the open tray technique and splinted impression technique produced a more dimensionally stable impression than the other techniques. Authors Conclusion: this study to assess the accuracy of various impression material and methods has concluded that while impression techniques influence the accuracy of the impression, the impression materials namely the Polyvinyl siloxane and polyether exhibit no significant difference with a slight preference to the polyvinyl siloxane. Hence the choice of impression material is at the discretion of the dentist performing the treatment and also this area requires further studies to establish conclusive evidence.","PeriodicalId":240291,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Dentistry Research","volume":"35 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-08-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130384423","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Prevention of disease, disability and suffering should be a primary goal of any society that hopes to provide a decent quality of life for its people. Dental care/service utilization is an indispensable facilitator of oral health, as dental caries and gingivitis are preventable with regular access to preventive dental services. Several reasons have been attributed to use and non-use of dental services and include socio-demographic factors such as age, sex, educational attainment, and household income. Objective: To determine dental service utilization of a rural population in South-east Nigeria. Methodology: A cross sectional study of 268 participants was carried out at Ozalla Model Primary Health Centre, Ozalla Health Centre and Umueze Awkunanaw Health Centre located in Ozalla community and Umueze Awkunanaw community respectively. Ethical clearance for this study was sought and obtained. Permission was sought from the head of each health centre, while individual verbal consent was obtained from the respondents before giving out the pretested questionnaire which was interviewer-administered. Data was analysed using Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) Version 20. Results: 126(47 %) males and 142(53%) females were seen. The age of the participants ranged from 18 - 86 years with a mean age of 32.4 ± 13.3 years. 131(48.9%) were married, 133(49.6%) were single and 4(1.5%) were divorced. 39(14.6%) had only primary level of education, 142(52.6%) secondary, 67(25.0%) tertiary and 21(7.8%) had no formal education. 64(23.9%) had utilized dental service, while 204(76.1%) had not visited a dental clinic (had not utilized dental service). The common reason for dental service utilization was dental pain. The predominant occupation was farming and small scale business/trading. P= 0.038. Conclusion: Dental health was neglected by a vast majority of the participants, The poor utilization of dental service by the respondents could be due to poor awareness, absence of dental insurance, financial constraints , lack of perceived need for dental care, economic difficulties ,socio-demographic factors such as age, sex, educational attainment, and household income. Effort needs to be applied to create better awareness and possibly increase dental clinic attendance. Emphasis should be placed on benefits of utilizing preventive dental services rather than only curative through dental awareness programms.","PeriodicalId":240291,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Dentistry Research","volume":"11 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-08-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127122303","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
