In this paper, we study the self-healing problem of an ATM network at the virtual path (VP) configuration level. We analyze the design issues of self-healing algorithms, and develop a state transition and bandwidth division model of individual VPs and links. On top of the model, we design a restoration algorithm that searches and activates alternate VPs for the failed VPs by combining a preplan method and a double search method. The preplan method activates preassigned backup VPs dynamically, while the double search method searches for alternate VPs from both the source and destination nodes of failed VPs. The double search method is also applied to reconstruction of the backup VP plan. Simulations demonstrate that our new algorithms outperform existing preplanned and dynamic self-healing algorithms in both restoration time and restoration ratio.","PeriodicalId":239245,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings Twelfth International Conference on Information Networking (ICOIN-12)","volume":"53 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1998-01-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121958888","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In order to deal such a situation a rapid development method of communication systems is necessary. One of the such development methods is to change an existing specification of the system to obtain the desired specification of the system. However, a very little work has been done to support making changes in formal specifications. In this paper, we propose a mechanism for making changes in formal protocol specifications by adding protocol functions in an existing protocol specification.","PeriodicalId":239245,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings Twelfth International Conference on Information Networking (ICOIN-12)","volume":"22 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1998-01-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122049996","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In our proposal, the cooperation protocol used by the flexible videoconference system is extended in the following points: (1) introduction of a cooperation states, (2) extension of performatives, (3) addition of compromise levels to define the agents status during the cooperation. We embedded the proposed protocol to the former flexible videoconference system and we evaluated the behavior of the system. According to the experiments on this prototype system, we confirmed that the flexibility of the system is improved.","PeriodicalId":239245,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings Twelfth International Conference on Information Networking (ICOIN-12)","volume":"12 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1998-01-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134020704","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Telecommunication sectors have made a lot of efforts to provide the personal mobility resulting in the development of PCN (Personal Communication Networks) or UPT (Universal Personal Telecommunications) services. However, the mobility service in the Internet has been mainly focused on the host mobility such as Mobile IF, while the personal mobility has been neglected relatively. In this paper, the agent network, the virtual network mapped onto physical networks, is proposed to support the personal mobility on the Internet. Mobile agent technology is adopted to build the agent network. The agent engine is designed and implemented with Java, and the Agent/Servant architecture is suggested to complement restrictions of Java applets.","PeriodicalId":239245,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings Twelfth International Conference on Information Networking (ICOIN-12)","volume":"14 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1998-01-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132617998","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Execution files compiled on a host are loaded on the switching system, after testing on the switching testbed hardware. The testing on the testbed has difficult problems that cannot share more than one user simultaneously and can not test the relationship between two execution files. To solve the restriction, the host DBMS simulator has been developed. This is a simulator that can test execution files on the host without loading to the testbeds or switching systems, and can control simultaneously many query requests generated by multiple users on the same host. In this paper, we propose a DBMS simulator on the host system, and present in detail implementation methods of the simulator.","PeriodicalId":239245,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings Twelfth International Conference on Information Networking (ICOIN-12)","volume":"38 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1998-01-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132147329","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

These researches can be categorized as following; system platform, real-time operating system, transport protocol, communication architecture. In distributed multimedia environment, QoS must be guaranteed in end systems, but much less progress has been made in addressing this problem. As the processing power of end systems increases, most of the bottleneck occurs in communication protocol, especially transport protocol. To meet an end-to-end QoS, overall QoS architectures must be integrated. In this paper, we propose a new QoS architecture and control mechanisms (group control, and flow control) to guarantee an end-to-end QoS for distributed multimedia services. We also verify proposed architecture by applying them to a multimedia conferencing system in LAN.","PeriodicalId":239245,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings Twelfth International Conference on Information Networking (ICOIN-12)","volume":"8 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1998-01-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"117081618","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The method is based on the distributed cooperative problem solving. In the delivery scheduling method, the covered region is partitioned into multiple subregions and each subregion is assigned a subproblem solving agent. Integrating those subproblem solving agents, an integration-and-evaluation agent solves the total problem. By employing the distributed cooperative problem solving framework for the delivery scheduling problem, we achieved an easy incorporation of various evaluation parameters in the process of scheduling, efficient use and management of scheduling knowledge of various levels, and reduction of computer processing by division of the problem into subproblems.","PeriodicalId":239245,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings Twelfth International Conference on Information Networking (ICOIN-12)","volume":"13 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1998-01-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127223690","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
