The first one is based on discrete Fourier transform (DFT) and the other is based on the Gabor filters. The two are compared for texture recognition and retrieval. To have deeper insight in to the role of neighbourhood properties and the filter banks in the texture description, extensive experimentation is performed over the image sets containing noisy and rotated variants of the textures from Brodatz album. A method for estimating rotation variance (RV) of a texture descriptor is also presented, which gives an idea of how rotation-sensitive is a certain texture descriptor. The results establish that the DFT-based features outperform the features based on Gabor filters in noiseless conditions whereas the later outperform otherwise.","PeriodicalId":238125,"journal":{"name":"2007 International Conference on Machine Vision","volume":"30 4 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-12-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125697438","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The basic concept of CAD is to provide the computer aided output as a second opinion to assist the radiologist. It improves the diagnostic accuracy and reduces image reading and interpretation time. In this paper, we propose a method of discriminating different skin carcinomas based upon their textural attributes by using wavelets. Single mother wavelet is designed to distinguish between the healthy and infected skin tissues. Classification is performed by SVMs, proposed method shows accuracy of 89%.","PeriodicalId":238125,"journal":{"name":"2007 International Conference on Machine Vision","volume":"103 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124720996","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Correct correspondence can be achieved through stereopsis and state of art algorithms have emerged for computation of dense correspondence incase of short baseline. Incase of wide baseline, maintaining correspondence in outdoor environment is a challenging task. First, A new concept of \"motion from stereo\" is presented, in which wide baseline is treated as summation of small baselines and correspondence is maintained all along it. To achieve this, correspondence based background modeling approach is extended to moving camera case. Second, occlusion among images is treated in a probabilistic manner and is modeled through Bayesian network. Third, a complete framework is presented to achieve correct correspondence. Experimental results validate that the framework is robust to nominal jitter, outdoor scenes artifacts e.g. swaying of trees, shimmering of water etc.","PeriodicalId":238125,"journal":{"name":"2007 International Conference on Machine Vision","volume":"28 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132711928","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The main idea of the method consists in minimizing an energy function that includes additional information on a shape reference called a prototype. Prior shape knowledge is introduced through a complete family of Euclidean invariants, computed from the similarity between shape of evolving contour and the prototype. This similarity is measured by full Procrustes distance. This extra knowledge enhances the model robustness to noise, occlusion and complex background. We use genetic algorithm to minimize energy function of this new type of snake that we call it Procrustes snake. The variational formulation of the proposed approach is described in details. We obtain promising results with synthetic and real images which show the power of our method for segmentation tasks.","PeriodicalId":238125,"journal":{"name":"2007 International Conference on Machine Vision","volume":"20 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126319387","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Remarkably, it involves no approximation of depth. The method is evaluated on perspective shape-from-shading involving wide range of oblique angles.","PeriodicalId":238125,"journal":{"name":"2007 International Conference on Machine Vision","volume":"25 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132720839","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Various constituents of the tissue section such as cellular and extra-cellular elements, staining artefacts, debris of nuclei, and clusters of overlapping nuclei apart from the image acquisition noise to name a few contribute to in the complexity of the task. In this paper, we pose the problem of selection of nuclei in tissue section as classification of shapes using manifold learning on training images followed by out-of-sample extension for unknown test images. Although this part of face is not as unique as full-face, but it offers much higher computational efficiency with minimum processing steps, and minimum storage capacity as compared to full-face. In our experiments, the frontal human eye images are generated from Essex dataset with 153 subjects. The images are tested with non-negative matrix factorization (NMF), local NMF (LNMF) and spatially confined NMF (SFNMF) respectively. Our experiments show that LNMF performs most optimally to attain 95.12% recognition rate, follow by SFNMF and NMF, which achieve 94.48% and 93.23%, respectively. It is evidenced that LNMF and SFNMF performs better than sole plain NMF. Besides, another goal of this paper is to study the influence of r, to which degree the basis number is sufficient to achieve the optimal recognition rate.","PeriodicalId":238125,"journal":{"name":"2007 International Conference on Machine Vision","volume":"61 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116536569","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

These methods can be used in combination with the several methods using color and texture already in use in content based image retrieval (CBIR). Matching methods are based on edges, corners, and ribbons and the relations among them and can be controlled for rotation, translation, and scale invariance. Good results are shown on a small but diverse sample of images with man-made structure. Although we have been oriented toward CBIR because image parts are put into correspondence, the methods are also of general use in object tracking, recognition, registration, structural stereo, or perhaps even detection of shot boundaries in video.","PeriodicalId":238125,"journal":{"name":"2007 International Conference on Machine Vision","volume":"10 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127824818","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The algorithm iteratively estimates the importance of variables and selects them accordingly based on correlation ranking. We test our method by sequential forward/backward selection approach. Empirical comparisons with 3 other state-of-the-art batch mode features selection approaches (Gini index, ReliefF, Gain ratio) are very encouraging. Using 12 UCI datasets we demonstrate experimentally that that our online methods prediction performs comparably to other batch learning counterpart algorithms.","PeriodicalId":238125,"journal":{"name":"2007 International Conference on Machine Vision","volume":"23 2","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"120973633","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Here for each range block we have considered one domain block and searched only for contrast scaling. Therefore the fractal code doesn't contain coordinates of matched domain block. The advantage of this method is that the quadtree algorithm can be applied and the size of the range block can be as small as 2times2 pixels. Therefore the quality of decoded image can be improved while the compression rate is maintained. Some simulation results verify that the proposed method achieved higher coding - performance than no search methods In spatial and wavelet domain.","PeriodicalId":238125,"journal":{"name":"2007 International Conference on Machine Vision","volume":"45 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126939745","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
