Treatments were designed as follows; control fertilizer (CF), HS-1 (CF+1.0 mL m LHS), HS-2 (CF+2.0 mL m LHS), and HS-3 (CF+4.0 mL m LHS). After treatment of LHS on creeping bentgrass, soil pH in the treated plots was decreased than that of CF. As compared to CF, visual quality, chlorophyll content and content of N, P and K were not significantly different in the LHS treatments. However, clipping yield and phosphorus uptake of HS-2 were significantly increased by 22% and 33%, respectively. These results showed that application of LHS improved the phosphorus uptake and growth of creeping bentgrass, which would be an alternative management tool for the cool season turfgrass under stress conditions.","PeriodicalId":23804,"journal":{"name":"Weed&Turfgrass Science","volume":"114 1","pages":"259-268"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"77724744","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Herbicide-resistant weeds occurred in 64,782 ha, which comprise 47.0% of the total paddy field area of Chungnam province. The infested area of herbicide resistant weeds was estimated in Seosan-si (11.9%), Nonsan-si (11.1%), Dangjin-si (10.9%), Boryeong-si (9.2%) and Asan-si (7.8%). The most dominant herbicide resistant weeds in rice fields were Monochoria vaginalis, followed by Lindernia dubia, Schoenoplectus juncoides, Echinochloa oryzicola, Cyperus difformis and Sagittaria trifolia. Herbicide resistant M. vaginalis, L. dubia, and S. juncoides occurred throughout Chungnam province, and herbicide resistant S. trifolia was only found in Dangjinsi. Compared with the 2011 survey, the infested area of herbicide-resistant weeds decreased, but the incidence rates were similar. The herbicide rotation with different modes of actions across growing seasons is recommended to control herbicide-resistant weeds in the infested fields. It is necessary to monitor herbicide resistance regularly and conduct integrated herbicide resistance management in this area.","PeriodicalId":23804,"journal":{"name":"Weed&Turfgrass Science","volume":"105 1","pages":"201-208"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"79258820","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We used soil collected from 358 paddy fields of Jeonnam province in 2017. Based on their life cycles, weeds were 96% annuals and 4% perennial. Additionally, according to morphological classification, 59% were broad leaves, 28% were sedges and 13% were grasses. Different areas within Jeonnam province contained different numbers and occurrence rates of weed species. However, generally, we observed Lindernia dubia var. dubia, Monochoria vaginalis var. plantaginea, Ludwigia prostrata, L. procumbens, Cyperus difformis, Scirpus juncoides, Eleocharis Kuroguwai, Echinochloa oryzoides, and E. crus-galli var. echinata. We also observed seven weeds resistant to an ALS inhibiting herbicide. They were M. vaginalis, S. juncoides, C. difformis, L. dubia, Ludwigia prostrata, E. oryzoides, and E. crus-galli var. echinata. Although there were differences in the number and occurrence rate of resistant weed species to an ALS inhibiting herbicide among areas in Jeonnam province, the M. vaginalis, C. difformis, and S. juncoides occurred in 23 cities and counties in Jeonnam including Gwangju metropolitan city. As a result, 166 species in 28 families were identified and 7, 130, 126, and 80 species were surveyed from paddy fields, uplands, orchards, and pastures, respectively. Among the 166 species, 128 species were annual weed and 38 species were perennial weed. Especially, winter annual exotic weeds were 63 species (37.8%). 46, 16, and 104 exotic weeds were classified to their introduction period of 1 (1876-1921), 2 (1922-1963), and 3 (1964-now) period, respectively. The exotic weeds introduced in 2 and 3 period, included 12 Invasive Alien Species. The weeds from 1 period, however, could be grouped into native weeds as the ‘naturalized weed’ and managed the same as the native weeds. Especially, some exotic weeds such as common groundsel were widely distributed in Korean crop lands, and they will become more problematic in near future. Because Beolcho usually takes place one or two weeks before Chuseok, the traffic accidents on roads are getting worse and safety accidents are getting more and more. Erroneous Beolcho methods can cause the soil to be exposed and cause the loss of soil or the low shoot density of graveyard grass or weed occurrence. Therefore, the dispersion of the Beolcho timing and the approprite method can be import issues. The present study assessed the effects of grass mowing timing and height before Chuseok on the growth of Zoysia japonica and Z. matrella. The mowing timing was evaluated at 1 week, 2 weeks, 3 weeks, and 4 weeks before Chuseok, and the mowing height differently according to the two type of grass. In Z. japonica, the faster mowing before Chuseok, the longer the plant height, and the coverage rate and shoot density were higher. In Z. matrella, the faster mowing, the longer the shoot length, but the coverage rate and shoot density did not show any difference or tendency. As compared to Z. japonica, the plant height of Z. matrella was kept short regardless of the time of mowing. In both grasses, the plant height was shortened when mowing was done at low cutting height, but the coverage rate and shoot density were decreased. In addition, it was shown that it is advantageous to maintain the shoot density of graveyard lawn by 40-50 mm or 30-40 mm cutting above the ground for Z. japonica or Z. matrella, respectively.","PeriodicalId":23804,"journal":{"name":"Weed&Turfgrass Science","volume":"40 1","pages":"140-147"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"82887112","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
