To understand the behavior of the corrugated materials and identify their properties, these materials are investigated to establish their behavior pattern. One method to reduce the complexity of modeling corrugated core sheets is through homogenization. In this paper a homogenization method is derived for sandwich panel with an arc-tan corrugation. The reduction of the 3D plate to 2D orthotropic structure is based on Castigliano's second theory. The derived model for the elastic moduli in x1 and x2 directions is utilized to calculate (E1) and (E2), which are two of five properties that characterize any orthotropic corrugated core sheet. Theoretically derived model compares well with other models found in the literature. The same model can be easily extended to find other material constants needed to fully describe corrugated panels.","PeriodicalId":237887,"journal":{"name":"2020 Advances in Science and Engineering Technology International Conferences (ASET)","volume":"160 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-02-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134234359","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Enhanced atomization is always important for effective performance of injection systems in Internal Combustion (IC) engines and rocket propulsion applications. The atomization depends mainly on the thickness of the upstream liquid sheet. The current study is an attempt to review the prominent works done on analysing the breakup of liquid sheets and techniques used till date for quantifying the dynamics of the breakup.","PeriodicalId":237887,"journal":{"name":"2020 Advances in Science and Engineering Technology International Conferences (ASET)","volume":"56 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-02-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134100819","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, analysis of club-head velocity for an effective greenside bunker shot has not, and identification of associated key features for evaluation to obtain performance index relative to professional golfers (PG). Data from twenty-two (22) golfing subjects were analyzed through mathematical model that was applied at club-head peak velocity. For an effective greenside bunker shot, results indicated that PG delivered very high club-head speed at impact, low handicap golfers (LHG) delivered high club-head speed while novice golfers (NG) had low club-head speed. Result also showed that optimized performance index (OPI) value increased as the golfer's handicap index increased dramatically relative to PG golfers. The result of this study may serve as a novelty to the scientific analysis of an effective greenside bunker shot peak velocity and identification of golfer's performance index for skills enhancement through proper training guidelines.","PeriodicalId":237887,"journal":{"name":"2020 Advances in Science and Engineering Technology International Conferences (ASET)","volume":"31 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-02-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"117196213","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Using a hybrid PV/T system improves the electrical efficiency of the PV module while the thermal energy can be used for various heating applications. The aim of this work is to numerically study the performance of the PV/T system in a hot climate condition. The cooling system of PV/T consists of several channels parallel to each other. A novel three-dimensional numerical simulation of the system was performed to study the thermal efficiency. The standard k-epsilon turbulence model was used during the simulation. This novel system was based on applying different thermal boundary conditions on the sides of one channel rather than simulating the whole cooling system. Using one channel simulation allows the creation of a smaller number of meshes, hence, reduces the computational time. The thermal efficiency of the PV/T system was calculated using the superposition method for different mass flow rates. The results showed an increase in the thermal efficiency from 60% up to 68% by increasing the mass flow rates from 0.4 - 5.4 L/min. These results were in good agreement with the results in the literature.","PeriodicalId":237887,"journal":{"name":"2020 Advances in Science and Engineering Technology International Conferences (ASET)","volume":"33 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-02-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122142610","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The SDB adsorbent is composed of a highly porous structure, and it contains multiple functional groups and exchangeable cations. However, it has been reported that the SDB texture could be improved to obtain large amounts of adsorption sites. In this work, the SDB material was treated using eggshell to obtain a novel adsorbent, namely eggshell-modified sludge-derived biochar (EMBC). The EMBC composite was characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), Fourier-transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, and X-Ray diffraction (XRD) spectroscopy. It was demonstrated that the Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET) surface area and pore-distribution properties of EMBC were enhanced compared to the unmodified SDB. Moreover, the chemical composition of EMBC was strongly associated with the proliferation of carbonate minerals, amine, and oxygen-containing functional groups such as C-O, C=O, - OH, and -COOH. EMBC was highly porous, containing rough surface and significant amounts of vacant sites. The Barrett-Joyner-Halenda model revealed that the pore sizes of EMBC were well distributed. Based on the results mentioned above, EMBC could be employed as a promising, low-cost, and alternative adsorbent material for the elimination of various pollutants from aqueous solutions; and that will be the focus of our future works.","PeriodicalId":237887,"journal":{"name":"2020 Advances in Science and Engineering Technology International Conferences (ASET)","volume":"18 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-02-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125312177","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The Inter-Agency Coordination of Lebanon from the UNHCR reported severe damages in several informal settlements in Eastern Lebanon. There, refugees were already striving to live with their families along with being a vulnerable community at risk from various hazards. Architectural engineering offers several sheltering solutions to respond to flood and aiming for resilience for communities at risk. This paper presents a design for a resilient shelter, using the Dalhamieh informal settlement in eastern Lebanon as a case study. For this purpose, using the data available from secondary sources, we firstly propose a preliminary risk assessment for the affected area in the Bekaa Valley. The resulting analysis combined with the integration of several guidelines from the UNHCR emergency handbook provided a basis for this research thereby presented. The shelter unit and its extension to the campsite here designed is resilient in such a way it is lightweight, flexible, movable, stretchable, deployable, and sustainable. Also, it protects residents from harsh environment.","PeriodicalId":237887,"journal":{"name":"2020 Advances in Science and Engineering Technology International Conferences (ASET)","volume":"39 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-02-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129983224","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In an expansion process, the pressure that is applied on the inner tube surface causes the tube to deform radially outward. Further plastic deformation of the tube, while tube in contact with the tubesheet, creates a contact pressure at the interface. Therefore, an optimum expansion pressure adequately develops sufficient contact pressure at the tube-to-tubesheet interface. Wall thinning percentage is generally used in practice to estimate the right amount of expansion. This paper focusses on the wall thickness reduction expressed in percentage, radial displacement of the inner tube surface, contact pressure and theoretical pull-out force for a various expansion pressure range. Results show that an expansion pressure lower than the yield stress of the tube does not fully close the gap between the tube and tubesheet. There is an evident spring back of radial displacement and contact pressure due to bauschinger effect upon retrieving the expansion pressure. However, the maximum radial displacement and contact pressure increase as expansion pressure increases. All the expansion pressures above the tube yield stress were sufficient to close the initial gap of the tube-to-tubesheet joint. A sudden increase in the radial displacement was observed for expansion pressures above tubesheet yield stress. Expansion pressure from 240 MPa to 340 MPa resulted in wall thinning percentage of 1.15% to 2.97%. Since the pullout strength and contact pressure are interrelated, high expansion pressure resulted in greater pull-out strength.","PeriodicalId":237887,"journal":{"name":"2020 Advances in Science and Engineering Technology International Conferences (ASET)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-02-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129646598","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

They complement each other and are inseparable. Attired expertise of mathematics is an essential component in intuitive and active problem solving in physics. This study explores the extent up to which the mathematical competence supports the learners in improving their Problem-Based Learning Skills. In addition this study investigated student's active learning in Physics pertaining to the mathematical reviews encapsulated before the physics Classes applied to undergraduate engineering programs. Second-semester engineering students were focused on while conducting this study. While carrying out the tasks learners were expected to carry out arithmetic transfer to establish a connection between the two disciplines in a meaningful way in the inception of the class.Besides, they were expected to translate the numbers as concepts in physics as they advance in the topic. The transition phase from physics concepts to problem-solving is expected to be smooth pertaining to the mathematical framework students have shaped during the mathematical review session in the beginning of the class. The consideration of the achievement level of students in two disciplines in the preliminary stage of the study was extremely helpful in the later stage to analyze the outcome. Any modification in the normal approach to problem solving at any stage done by any of the students was tracked down. Student's ability to give meaning to the result obtained in the form of numbers during the problem solving session was investigated to identify their ability to conceptualize the answer in terms of physics. The transition phase from numbers to the concept is not smooth and thus contribute to the low understanding of conceptual physics.","PeriodicalId":237887,"journal":{"name":"2020 Advances in Science and Engineering Technology International Conferences (ASET)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-02-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129681815","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
